After years of waiting, Sony has finally dropped one of the largest updates to the PS4 today. System update 4.00, code-named ‘Shingen’ is available for all consoles, bringing a number of features and enhancements in tow.
Back in August, Sony’s project Shingen, and the ‘PlayStation Neo’ (PS4 Pro) were reported. Sony released a changelog on its blog back in August that showed off several features and enhancements about what exactly the “fresh coat of paint” would bring in terms of UI changes and refreshments. Today Sony completely let the cat out of the bag, as the 4.00 update is ready to make impact with users.
The first and more obvious change is the new UI. Just about everything has been tweaked including but not limited to system icons, pop-up notifications, and backgrounds on the What’s New tab. Along with the facelift is the introduction of music integration into the Quick Menu. Ever heard a slick track playing in your game, and didn’t open Shazam on your phone fast enough to collect the track? Sony has revamped the Quick Menu by adding music functionality with Spotify integration that should provide quicker means to name that track fast.
The 4.00 update also marks anew with HDR support for the PlayStation 4. Every PS4 model will soon be able to take advantage of HDR, as long as you have an HDR display.
The PS4 Pro is not being left out either; there are a few changes that Sony has implemented in the software update that should set up its release in November. The changes can be seen below:
