Sony's Helldivers and Microsoft's Spartans could soon be fighting together

Sony and Microsoft may be about to have Helldivers and Spartans fighting together soon if the latest Xbox port teaser is anything to go by.

Last month, Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios surprise-announced that the mega-successful cooperative shooter Helldivers 2 would be breaking its PlayStation 5 console exclusivity and coming to Xbox consoles. The release is almost here, and it seems the developer is preparing something special for the new platform release.

In the latest trailer promoting the Xbox release, aptly dubbed Bring the Boom, a small scene plays out near the end that has given hope to Halo fans. Go to the 1:10 section in the trailer embedded above to catch it yourself.

The clip shows a city landscape that may be familiar to Halo 3: ODST players, paying homage to the city of New Mombasa. At the same time, some familiar jazz notes play in the background, while a Helljumper-style drop pod comes in from above.

What's unclear as of now is what kind of crossover this will be and whether there will be an attached event. There is a chance that only Halo-inspired cosmetics and weapons will be available at launch for players to earn or purchase, much like the Killzone 2 promotion that Arrowhead Game Studios brought into the game back in December.

Helldivers 2 Halo tease

Helldivers 2 studio Arrowhead has previously confirmed that it is open to crossovers with other franchises, but it would not go far as to put things that do not match its universe. "As a couple of examples: Melee weapons could be plausible in Helldivers. Lightsabers would not," the studio had said last year. "A Helldiver finding a remnant, artifact, or a letter from someone from another game/cultural universe is plausible. Mickey Mouse writing a Helldiver would not. And so on."

Considering the studio's position, having some Spartan or ODST-inspired armor sets would definitely fit in with the Helldivers aesthetic. We will have to wait and see if iconic weapons like the Battle Rifle, Magnum Pistol, or Needler will hop over for this crossover.

Helldivers 2 is hitting Xbox Series X|S on August 26. Crossplay has also been confirmed, connecting Xbox with PlayStation and PC players.
