Spotify launched a dedicated version of the app specifically developed for children late last year. Although there are already parental controls set in place, these capabilities have only been limited to helping parents select between the "Audio for Younger Kids" or "Audio for Older Kids" experience for their children.
Today, Spotify Kids received a new update that widens controls for parents in terms of choosing what their kids can listen to. The music streaming service has announced that the app now allows parents to block a specific song from their kids' accounts.
To manage what songs their children can stream, parents must log in to the "grown-ups" section of Spotify Kids and choose what account they want to update. Then they can start blocking specific songs by heading over to the "Listening History" and tapping the "block" icon next to a soundtrack title. That means a song must first be played so that it appears in the history list before it can be blocked. It's important to note that the blocked song will only be hidden from an individual account that has been updated. There's also an option to unblock a song via the blocked content section or by visiting the Listening History again.
Spotify Kids is also available in Japan and Germany starting today. That's on top of existing countries where it's already available including Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, the U.S., Canada, and France.
