Canonical has released the beta version of Ubuntu 21.04. It comes with Wayland by default and the newer Linux 5.11 kernel. Ubuntu 21.04 will officially ship on April 22 following the beta period.
Canonical has announced that Ubuntu 21.04 will ship with the Wayland display server as default. This will give the software a year to mature before Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is released for production PCs.
Canonical has revealed that Ubuntu 21.04 will be codenamed 'Hirsute Hippo' which means hairy hippo in plain English. It will be supported for nine months following release on April 22nd.
