Twitter's Clubhouse competitor, called Twitter Spaces, debuted in beta form towards the end of last year and came to Android in March. Now, The social network has announced that its audio rooms will now be available to all users with over 600 followers, since the social network believes users with larger audiences are more likely to have a good experience with Spaces.
Spaces allow users to get together and talk about any topic of their choosing, and users who create a space remain in control. It's possible to pin Tweets, turn on captions for everyone in the room, and invite other users to speak in the space. Participating users can also request to speak during the conversation. Hosts and participants can also report users in a space, or the space itself, plus hosts can mute all the speakers at once in case conversations get out of control. A user's followers will see Spaces that are live right now at the top of their Twitter feeds and get the option to join in.
Along with announcing the expanded availability of Spaces, Twitter also announced some new features for its audio rooms. First, ticketed Spaces will allow hosts to charge users for the privilege of participating in a specific conversation, limiting the audience to its more passionate fanbase and those who want to support the host. Hosts can set the price and maximum amount of tickets available, and the revenue will mostly go to the host, with Twitter keeping a "small amount". The social network is also bringing the ability to schedule Spaces and set reminders for them in the coming weeks.
Other features on the way include the ability to co-host Spaces with other users, improvements to live captions, and new ways to access Spaces by highlighting a user's profile picture on the Twitter feed if they're hosting a space at that time.
