United Kingdom: Now TV launches contract-free broadband offer

Now TV, run by the UK-based company Sky, has launched a new choice of broadband and home phone packages. The main selling point of the offerings is that you can pay a £40 setup fee for the option to go contract-free, meaning you can move away from Now TV to another provider any time you like.

The offerings are reasonably priced and fairly competitive with other providers in the UK. With the Entertainment Pass – which offers 11 paid channels plus, catch-up and 250 on-demand box sets – and Brilliant Broadband (15.1 – 22.0Mbps) the combo costs a total of £27.98, including line rental. When you sign up, there is, of course the one-off £40 set up fee if you choose to go contract-less.

The combo is topped off with a free Roku powered Now TV set-top box allowing you to watch the box sets you’ve purchased in the combo deal. Additionally, you’ll be able to use the box to watch live Freeview (requires an aerial), BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, and Demand 5. It also allows you to pause and rewind live TV by up to 30 minutes.

The broadband options are Brilliant Broadband (17Mb), Fab Fibre (up to 38Mb), and Super Fibre (up to 76Mb). As for the TV passes there is the Entertainment Pass, Sky Cinema Pass, Sky Sports Month pass, and the Kids pass.

Finding a contract-less broadband offer in the UK is pretty hard to come by, making Now TV's offer fairly unique. Most contracts in the country typically last 12 - 18 months but it's possible to find shorter and longer offers.
