Windows 10 Mobile Redstone build 14291 now available for more devices

When Microsoft released the official Windows 10 Mobile upgrade last week to a disappointing list of devices, they also promised to allow those handsets to once again be eligible for Fast ring builds. Today, the firm is delivering on that promise.

Today we are releasing this build to the list of devices that will be capable of receiving updates as part of the Windows Insider Program except the Lumia 635. We will add the Lumia 635 at a later date. Going forward – these devices can receive new builds from our Development Branch that we release to the Fast and Slow rings. As we stated previously, only devices which are eligible to receive the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will be able to get preview builds from the Development Branch.

Signing up for the Fast ring will get you build 14291, which includes a completely redesigned Maps app, along with a new Alarms & Clock app.

In case you're thinking of dipping your toes into the Insider Preview and have never done so before, here's how to sign on:

  1. Download the Windows Insider app from the Store.
  2. Open the app and select Get preview builds.
  3. Select Insider Fast.
  4. Accept the terms and conditions and allow your phone to reboot.
  5. Go to Settings -> Update & security -> Phone update -> Check for updates

It is not required for your device to already be upgraded to Windows 10 for it to be eligible for these builds. Even if you're still on Windows Phone 8.1, you can still opt in.
