According to various sources, Microsoft plans to release an updated version of Windows Mobile 6.5 (some call it Windows Mobile 6.5 'second edition'), bringing a few welcome changes. Some of these happen to include a new keyboard, a new layout, and better support for capacitive touch screen devices.
The new keyboard, shown over at the XDA Developer forums, was discovered in the latest build of Windows Mobile, demonstrating the changes made. An interview with an unnamed source over at mopocket has revealed a bit more information about the upcoming update. Differences between the main types of touch screen are explained, which we won't do here as most people already know how they differ, though a Windows Mobile rep said that it won't be called '6.5.1' as some forums say. The name is unclear, or there may be no name at all, though it most likely won't be given simply a small version number increase.
The new version will aid with capacitive touch screen devices, as currently those companies who do sell phones with Windows Mobile and that specific type of touch technology have to develop their own solution of getting around the user interface. This is undesirable, as although it means a wider range of choice, it also means inconsistency between companies. The update is rumored to be coming soon, though no specific time frame has been given.
