Since the introduction of the second-generation AirPods, it's been possible to get a custom text engraving on the charging case for the wireless earbuds, adding a distinguishing personal element to the device. But if for whatever reason, you'd rather engrave an emoji into yours, you can do that now.
As spotted by 9to5Mac, the Apple online store is now offering options to engrave your AirPods or AirPods Pro with an emoji instead of text. Because the engraving isn't colored, you can't just go ahead and choose any emoji, but Apple does give you 31 options to choose from a few emoji faces, hand gestures, animals, and other options like a heart, a star, and more.
Apple has also updated the text engraving options, making the text larger. What you can't do is mix emoji and text, which is unfortunate if you want to have a message that's actually unique to you. If you choose an emoji, that's all you get.
As mentioned above, the engraving options are available for regular AirPods - be it with the wireless charging case or not - as well as AirPods Pro, and there's no additional cost for the engraving. 9to5Mac has confirmed the capability is available in a few different countries, but you might not see it just yet.
