YouTube announces improvements to search results

YouTube has announced that it’s improving the results it displays to users when they perform a search. The first change is the introduction of video chapters being viewable in search results so you don’t need to click the video to see what it’s about. The second change brings in videos made in other languages with translated titles, descriptions, and captions, making results more expansive.

When you perform a search on mobile, to save you time clicking on the video and viewing ads just to find out what the video is about, you can now hit a drop-down button to see the chapter titles of the video; this can give you a better idea about whether the video is worth watching. Search results on the mobile app will also play a snippet to help you identify useful content.

The other change will allow you to find content in other languages more easily and should expand the results you get. As things stand, search results will be supplemented with English-language content first before it’s expanded to more languages. While captioned videos have been available for a long time on YouTube, the titles and descriptions were not auto-translated so that’ll be a nice addition.

Finally, YouTube said that mobile devices in India and Indonesia also get search results with website links and other formats from Google Search on YouTube. It said this helps people find information that may not be available on YouTube. It said that it will see the feedback on this before attempting any rollout to other countries.
