I can see the comparisons to Fallout because of the RPG elements, etc., and the whole nuclear wasteland backfrop, but even though I am only a little in to the game itself, I can say the actual gunplay of Rage is way better than Fallout, at least IMO. The gun handling in Fallout just never felt right to me, where in Rage, it feels spot on so far.

Yea i missed the wolfenstein 3d room and doesnt seem like i can go back to the floor its on, just past the arera for the Quake 1 room and going to go back in the wasted garage to find it.

And i want a DoomGuy Bobble Head

Fun depends,, i didnt care for Duke Nukem, but i find Rage verry fun so far. The 3rd town called wellspring has 4 mini games that i have found so far. As well as races for items/upgrades/cash, and delivery missions for cash.

From whay i have seen and read of Fallout Rage seems alot like, so if you loked Fallout, then youll like rage.

Only thing i can really recomend is if your friends have it, check it out on their rig and "test" if youll like it

Unfortunately , it isn't a close friend. He just said it looks amazing and is fun. I like games like Fallout, Borderlands, Crysis, Duke, and almost any FPS that isn't total COD style.. just can't get into realistic military shooters much. I love Doom 3 still. Basically, if this has classic ID style gameplay, I should be happy...

DL, we seem to enjoy some of the same types of games. You enjoying it?

Going Slightly OT (but on topic since it relates to this game and all games overall), This is BY FAR the thing I hate most about having an SLi setup. SLi support is weak at best, and almost no games launch with a proper SLi profile.

My experience is the complete opposite to be honest. NVIDIA had an SLI profile out for Battlefield 3 days before the Open Beta started for example. Every game I've had for the past 24 months has had an SLI profile at launch. Of course I don't have Rage.

You know you can create your own SLI profiles through? It's quite easy from inside the control panel.

If you liked those games as well as D3 then i think you will like Rage, hope you dont get happening what some others are getting.

Its far from CoD style, only thing in common with CoD is Iron Sights ( its almost nothing like CoD imo ).

Yep, very much so. Really enjoying it.

Besides the BF3 Beta, I can only think of one game that has had the profile on release, and that is Deus Ex Human Revolution.

Every other game I can recall did not have a SLi profile on release....

Crysis 2

Dead Island

Bulletstorm

The Witcher 2

Those are just the games I can think off of the top of my head,

And yep, I know how to make my own SLi profiles, but they never seem to provide the same performance as the official profiles do. And actually they just downright do not work some times. In fact I read more than a few comments on the Steam forums of people saying when they forced SLi on Rage, dropped down to 10-15 FPS and made the game unplayable.

So yeah, maybe we play different games, but my experience with having SLi ready on launch day has not been a positive one. Same goes for creating my own SLi profiles. That is hit or miss as well. if you count making your own profiles as having them on launch, then sure, I can have SLi profiles before launch.

I also wind up using the EVGA SLi Enhancement patch a decent amount. Just the fact that it exists says SLi support is not that good. If it was, there would be no need for it.

I want to get this but am on the fence as far as XBox 360 or PC version. My PC is a bit dated, but games do tend to look better on it than on the XBox 360.

PC -

nVidia GeForce 6800GT 512MB

Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad

4GB Ram

+ Can play without taking over the television which means I can play this while my gf's kids are around...

XBox 360 -

+ I enjoy playing on the larger (albeit lower resolution) screen

+ I enjoy playing while kicking back in an easy chair as I work at a computer all day most days anyway and am anxious for a break.

Thanks for input.

Got the game running well now with newest ati drivers, but as soon as I got to wellsprings everything is **** again. NPC's are glitched to all hell, shaking, flickering, and glitching. Many others seem to be seeing this too. Was starting to have fun with this game just to run into this crap.

I really don't get people's hatred towards this game.

1. It's an amazingly optimized game. If you name me one other game that looks as good as runs as well, go ahead (bugs aside).

The game does run very well, but to be fair the game literally seems to have no dynamic lighting. its 2011... And the megatexture tech is rather.. underwhelming.

Try the config file that I linked in my previous post, it sets pretty much all the graphical options (that we know of anyways) to max. They do improve the graphics but the performance hit (for me anyways) was next to none. Then again I don't have the texture popping bug so it might make it worse, or it might fix it (the amount of textures that can be streamed in one go has been quadrupled so).

Here's a breakdown of the settings

com_AllowConsole 1 <- Enables console
com_SkipIntroVideo 1 <- Allows you to skip intro video, I don't think this works
image_usecompression 0 <- Sets image compression to 0, so best quality
g_showplayershadow 1 <- Turns on player shadows (doesn't seem to work)
r_displayRefresh 60 <- Refresh rate
vt_qualityhdplossless 1 <- Lossless HD photos, 1 is on, 0 is off
vt_qualityhdppower 0 <- 0 is best, 255 is worst
vt_qualityhdpspecular 0 <- 0 is best, 255 is worst
vt_qualityhdpnormal 0 <- 0 is best, 255 is worst
vt_qualityhdpdiffuse 0 <- 0 is best, 255 is worst
vt_qualitydctpower 100 <- 100 is best, 0 is worst
vt_qualitydctspecular 100 <- 100 is best, 0 is worst
vt_qualitydctnormal 100 <- 100 is best, 0 is worst
vt_qualitydctchroma 100 <- 100 is best, 0 is worst
vt_qualitydctluma 100 <- 100 is best, 0 is worst
vt_usecudatranscode 2 <- If you have an nVidia GPU set this is to 1 or 2 (2 being better). If you don't, or you have CUDA disabled set it to 0
vt_maxppf 1024 <- Number of transcoded frames per second. This will help with the texture popping issue. Set it too high however, and your game will crash. Set it too low and it might pop so mess around till you find the best number for your computer.
vt_maxlockedpages 256 <- Same thing as above.
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192 <- Dimensions of the textures. Apparently 8192 is the largest.
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192	<- Dimensions of the textures. Apparently 8192 is the largest.
vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192 <- Texture dimension again..
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192 <- Same thing again...
vt_minlod -1 <- Finest mip that can be accessed.
vt_uncompressedvmtr 1 <- Use uncompressed data
vt_uncompressedphysicalimages 1 <- Use uncompressed images
vt_vmtrcompression none <- No compression
vt_maxaniso 16 <- Max anisotropic filtering. 16 being highest, 0 being lowest
vt_restart <- Whenever you change a vt_ setting, the virtual texture engine has to be restarted. So you put this in at the end to restart it on the main menu.

As for the megatexture (or well Virtual Texturing since MT is idtech4 and idtech5 uses VT) tech, it isn't running at its full potential. Internally the texture sizes are 128000×128000 and weigh in at about 150gb. The PC version is 8192x8192 and weighs in at about 22gb. The reason it had to be reduced is well obvious lol...nobody would want to install a 150gb game.

It is a really neat idea though and allows you to have massive textures (high detailed ones too) being loaded without much of a performance hit. According to GPU-Z and task manager, my GPU load was at a relatively constant 65-70%, gpu-memory load was 540mb (I have a 3gb video card lol), ram usage for the game was about 550mb.

I've actually already fixed the texture popping with a combination of the new ati drivers and a smaller config file I was using:

vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192

vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192

vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192

vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192

vt_maxaniso 4

vt_restart

image_anisotropy 4

I'll try playing around with those other options you posted as well. The game can look amazing in places, but crap in others :/

Thanks for posting this. I had downloaded the config file from your other post (I am at work) and realized it did me no good as I did not know what anything other than a few obvious things meant. The breakdown of everything is really helpful, and I am now curious to see what my file is at when I check it out.

Anytime. If you copy and paste the command into the console it will also give you a more detailed explanation of what some of the settings do.

Thats pretty much the best settings and you should have no problem running it at those. Your comp is a lot better than mine, and if mine can play RAGE at those settings with 8x AA at 60fps yours should be just fine.

Sorry to keep chiming in but have a question: I'm reading comparisons to Fallout 3 (which I am playing through again on 360) and from what I've seen of RAGE, I'm not sure I am getting the same impression? I'm sure the videos I've watched aren't really going into the RPG elements but some folks have said the RPG elements are really sparse. If there truly is much more depth to the game than what I've seen in videos then I'll jump on it but, alas, I've yet to get a real good idea of what RPG elements are in the game.

I've never been so on the fence over a game before and it probably has more to do with the number of top games coming out in a short period of time.

Besides the setting I didn't get much of a fallout vibe from it. RPG elements go about as far as the fact that it has quests and an inventory. Its a definitely a shooter at the core.

Wooops! I actually have an 8800GT 512MB.

EVGA 512-P3-N802-A1 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Okay, having played a bit I can safely say the game is......VERY GOOD! I can't see where all the complaints are coming from at all? Maybe I just get lucky with games all the time or something? :p

Yes, up close some textures look low quality but you are rarely eyeballing surfaces when playing anyway and from a close enough distance, say a few feet, everything looks really crisp and sharp. I got no tearing out of the box and I only enabled the additional text file mod mentioned on various sites:

seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"

seta vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"

seta vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"

seta vt_pageimagesizevmtr "8192"

I enabled transcoding and am using 4xFSAA' date=' at no point did the framerate stutter or fluctuate outside of 60fps. I also note that there is absolutely no texture pop-in for me.

I played using a GTX460 and 4.3GHz i5 and 16GB RAM.

I noted that my GPU meter widget for Windows on the 2nd screen reporting VRAM usage being around 250-300MB while outside in the wasteland. Quite remarkable really as I was expecting it to be higher going by the guides saying if you use the additional config file mods you should have ideally a 1.5GB card.

Loading times were also very fast, only a few seconds to load everything so far.

I'm glad to be buying this :D

Also, I noticed that if you crash in the buggy you get some cool physics deaths like in another certain driving game :p

[media']

[/media]

(I've enabled the console to try fov changing using a guide online so be wary of that as it disables achievements)

The shotgun sounds so sublime, my speaker's woofers absolutely love it! So much recoil feedback :p

Oh and just like with BF3, the GTX 460 continues to amaze me as it can keep up with today's titles easily :p

Also I can see how some people can get motion sickness, the game is almost too smooth, it's so smooth that I initially felt a bit woozy but adjusted quite quickly.

I have many 1920x1200 screenshots here too.

It keeps you safe online, protects your privacy, and lets you browse the web quickly. You can even use it on all your devices and keep your browsing history and favorites synced up. Built on the same technology as Chrome, Microsoft Edge has additional built-in features like Startup boost and Sleeping tabs, which boost your browsing experience with world class performance and speed that are optimized to work best with Windows. Microsoft Edge security and privacy features such as Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, Password Monitor, InPrivate search, and Kids Mode help keep you and your loved ones protected and secure online. Microsoft Edge has features to keep both you and your family protected. Enable content filters and access activity reports with your Microsoft Family Safety account and experience a kid-friendly web with Kids Mode. The new Microsoft Edge is now compatible with your favorite extensions, so it’s easy to personalize your browsing experience. Microsoft Edge 149.0.4022.52 changelog: Migration to improved V2 architecture for Workspaces. Workspaces, introduced in Edge in 2022, allows users to create durable sets of tabs that can be saved and shared with others. In order to improve reliability and performance of this feature, the following changes are being made: Migrating data for saved Workspaces from OneDrive/SharePoint to Edge Sync service Removing the collaboration/share functionality of this feature For organizations who have disabled Sync through policy, the existing v1 Workspace data will still be migrated to the new architecture. New v2 Workspaces created after migration won't sync across devices and will remain local to each device. This update occurs on a progressive rollout beginning in Edge Stable v145 and will continue rolling out in Edge v149. For more information, see Getting started with Microsoft Edge Workspaces. Feature Updates Passkey Sync for Enterprise Users. Microsoft Edge is introducing support for passkey synchronization for enterprise users, enabling secure, passwordless authentication across devices. Passkeys created in Edge can now be synced seamlessly, improving sign-in experience while maintaining strong security standards. Note: This is a controlled feature rollout. If you don't see this change, check back as we continue the rollout. Enterprise WebView2 runtime downgrade via DowngradeVersion policy. Administrators can temporarily roll back specific applications to a previous WebView2 Evergreen Runtime version (N-1 or N-2) using the new DowngradeVersion policy in msedgewebview2.admx. The Downgrade Version policy allows enterprises to mitigate critical regressions by specifying per-application exe-to-version mappings. The Edge Updater installs the target version side-by-side, and the WebView2 Loader redirects targeted apps accordingly. Downgrades auto-expire with each new WebView2 release: apps pinned to N-1 remain on the same version (now becoming N-2) and will auto-update in the next release, while apps pinned to N-2 will revert to the current Evergreen version. The policy applies only to enterprise-managed devices (domain-joined or MDM-enrolled). For more information, see Microsoft Edge WebView2 Policy Documentation | Microsoft Learn. Collections retirement. Collections has been removed in this update. Users can no longer access or use the feature. To keep saved content, users can export it, or move all pages to Favorites before updating to Microsoft Edge Stable 149. For more information, see Organize your ideas with Collections in Microsoft Edge - Microsoft Support. Modern, unified, and updated Look and Feel. Microsoft Edge has updated the Look and Feel to give customers a unified experience across all of Microsoft AI surfaces including Copilot and Bing. This changes multiple elements of the UX such as spacing, corners, fonts, default colors, etc. Clarify choices surrounding third-party cookie settings. Language under Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies are clarified to better describe the choices users have in managing third-party cookies. Custom primary password retirement. Users are no longer able to create a new custom primary password in Edge Settings edge://settings/autofill/passwords/settings. Any users who are still using a custom primary password will be automatically migrated to device authentication. Additionally, the PrimaryPasswordSetting policy will no longer support the WithCustomPrimaryPassword option. For more information, see Keep your saved passwords private in Microsoft Edge | Microsoft Support. Unifying Copilot Chat policy controls. The Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled policy is the standard for configuring Copilot Chat. Previously, this behavior was controlled by blocking the Copilot extension, either explicitly or by using the * wildcard via the ExtensionSettings or ExtensionInstallBlockList policies. Extension and sidebar policies no longer affect the appearance or functionality of Copilot Chat. Copilot address bar suggestions were also tied to extension policy settings. Starting in Microsoft Edge version 149, admins can use the CopilotAddressBarSuggestionsEnabled policy to manage this behavior. Intune MAM Protected Downloads. • Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2.7.2 by Razvan Serea Media Player Classic - Home Cinema (MPC-HC) is a free and open-source video and audio player for Windows. MPC-HC is based on the original Guliverkli project (which is no longer maintained) and contains many additional features and bug fixes. As the continuation of the original Media Player Classic, MPC-HC isn’t flashy but it works with nearly any media format. MPC-HC uses DXVA technology to pass decoding operations to your modern video card, enhancing your viewing experience. And MPC-HC supports both physical and software DVDs with menus, chapter navigation, and subtitles. Overview of features A lot of people seem to be unaware of some of the awesome features that have been added to MPC-HC in the past years. Here is a list of useful options and features that everyone should know about: Dark interface Menu > View > Dark Theme When using dark theme it is also possible to change the height of the seekbar and size of the toolbar buttons. Options > Advanced Video preview on the seekbar Options > Tweaks > Show preview on seek bar Adjust playback speed Menu > Play > Playback rate The buttons in the player that control playback rate take a 2x step by default. This can be customized to smaller values (like 10%): Options > Playback > Speed step Adjusting playback speed works best with the internal audio renderer. This also has automatic pitch correction. Options > Playback > Output > Audio Renderer MPC-HC can remember playback position, so you can resume from that point later Options > Player > History You can quickly seek through a video with Ctrl + Mouse Scrollwheel.
