Battlefield 3 Cracked To Run Without Origin, EA Sheds A Tear

You know that steam asks you if you want your infos to be on the steam survey or not, right?

Nowadays yes, in the past no.

And yes, I still remember the days when Steam was such utter drivel that people raged on and on about it. Funny how people tend to forget all this stuff.

I personally have no stance on EA, they've been good, they've been bad, they've been everything between - as has Valve. I wish people would sometimes remember that as well, instead of bashing them for no reason, seeing as they're doing exactly the same thing as Valve is.

Therefore your point is invalid. Kinda like hating the Germans because of the Nazis role in WW2 even though it was several years ago.

Except Valve is one of the last "great" developers out there whereas EA is and always be a money hungry monster that nobody likes.

Yes, I was thinking the same. When Steam was released, it was the devil itself and there was no end to how bad it was. But that is history, and most people forget the past. Origin will be worked on and polished and soon enough it will just be another game supplier like Steam.

I've been using this flawlessly for 3 days now.

I have no problem with Origin as an updater - much in the same way that I prefer using Desura over downloading mods through http. I just don't want it a) collecting data without an option to opt out, and b) running in the background and interfering with Steam overlay.

I'll stick with Origin on the off chance EA somehow updates Origin to detect this hack and ban people who are using it. Call me paranoid, I don't care. I also don't have a lot of money to throw around too so better safe than sorry. Unless Razer1911 is going to compensate me for all my games on Origin if/when the account gets banned? Since they are so sure it works perfectly and all..

Then stop saying that people are hypocrites plz.

When steam sucked, everybody was angry about it. Then it improved and now it's appreciated by a lot of people (there are still some haters around).

Origin sux, and everybody is angry about it .... yet it didn't improves.

How does that make the PC community a bunch of hypocrite?

Because it took a while for Steam to get better just like it will take a while for Origin to get better. Also, why can't I buy Valve games without Steam?

To be honest I guess I'm the only person that hasn't had any technical issues with Origin so far...

Honestly dont see what the fuss is about. Tho I do wish they`d fix the random crashes the game has.

Aslong as this crack doesnt allow torrent kiddys on playing with us who have payed for the retail then im fine with it.

Enjoy your cliche of a SP.

Origin I dont mind either, its not invasive and nor is it any worse and or better than steam in my eyes. Tho I can see many people on here dont like change.

Thats and ofc the EA bashers are out in force. Im probably one of them, but tbh just because a company has developed a monopoly and has tried and failed with drm technology and such, doesnt really warrant some of the almost nuclear options and opinions that so many folk are quick to harbour.

Try boycotting worthwhile things, like when Sony decided to shut down Lik-sang.com even tho its own staff were using to buy import games. But hey thats jus my 2 cents, no doubt someone will post a horrendous tale of customer neglect and or bad service on EA`s part soon. However personally so far I just dont see what the fuss is about.... sorry.

FOR THE LAST TIME, NOT ONE PERSON HAS SAID VALVE SHOULDN'T RELEASE THEIR GAMES STEAM FREE!

I believe both clients (steam and origins) need to work more like GFWL, where there is a mini client launched when the game is launched, and it is overlay only, with the full client being OPTIONAL/FOR DOWNLOAD PURPOSES ONLY. This way the games can be on any DD system and still be in control of the dev, though I believe that if you are going to use another service, OFFER your DLC on the system, but still keep your own.

That way customers and devs win.

So then even SP would be online?

There's a far easier solution. If you don't like EA's tactics and their "spyware", do what I do and vote with your wallet. Don't buy the game at all.

Oh, but the game is so worth the money! Activision is next I'm sure, people seem to forget how hated and despised Steam was when it launched.

You can't get Valve games without Steam because they are steamworks.

Try playing L4D without the server browser (this includes the matchmaking), it will be a bit dull ....

And there is an offline mode for steam in case of emergency.

Aren't you worried that punkbuster going suddenly decide to ban you, for using the modified exe because it thought it's a hack? And Origin's overlay is bound to a different key than Steam's one by default.

You shouldn't have problems with them interfering with each other.

And there is an offline mode for steam in case of emergency.

Have you ever tried to use it without being connected to the Internet? It never works.

I hope they remove it from Sims 3 too. The latest expansion 'Pets' has it bundled and is annoying me because my girlfriend won't shut up about how much it annoys her.

At this point, it seems like bundled 'tools' like Origin aka spyware or DRM protection that has legitimate users having to jump through hoops and be frustrated is helping who exactly? Certainly not helping the developers, as the games are cracked and pirated still... certainly not helping the publishers as we have people giving up paying for DMR riddled titles... and its certainly not helping consumers who, due to problems with it, are having more of a hard time just to play the games and such. It seems the only winners here are the people who don't pay and pirate the games.

I'm struggling to find reasons to stay with the PC for gaming if EA and the likes continue to punish us for buying games on the platform.

1. If that happens, I'm getting it on Steam when it's on sale next (yes it IS coming to Steam). The game in its current state has me just about to quit.

2. Through years of using the Steam overlay, I accidentally hit shift-tab to close Origin's overlay all the time. This causes the both of them to conflict, and my game to become unresponsive.

No, it's not. Nothing has been announced as of yet, and there's no indication anything will be. Could change, but your statement is false for now.

If someone has actually bought the game, why would they wanna dump Origin?

Cause you can buy the game in the store and play it and with that you shouldn't have to be forced to load Origin to play it since its nothing but junk anyway..same goes with Battlelog.

Once I get my very cheap copy soon I'll load this patch and smile the whole time I'm playing...screw Origin and Screw EA for pushing it on people!

Do they need an announcement to put it on a digital platform? Files for BF3 have been found in Steam. A community manager that I spoke with said "not at launch, but after" when I asked whether Steam would have it at launch. Valve and EA are confirmed to be in talks about BF3 and future company relations.

It's coming to Steam, and you'd better believe it.

And like I said, I force myself to play this game in the state that it is in. I haven't ragequit only because my community has some servers in it.

Surely they can make the server browser in-game, no? And make other Steamworks features optional.

Regarding Steam's offline mode, well, there have been plenty of complaints of it not working. Not as overblown as the whole Origin thing though, of course not.

    • Could God or aliens actually be real as new theory says we shouldn't even exist by Sayan Sen Image by cottonbro studio via Pexels A study published in July 2025 examined one of science's biggest unanswered questions: how life first emerged from non-living matter on early Earth. The research, led by Robert G. Endres of Imperial College London, used mathematics to examine how difficult it would have been for the first living system, known as a protocell, to form before Darwinian evolution began. The origin of life remained an open question in physics and chemistry. Scientists had already studied how simple molecules might have formed under early Earth conditions, but this study focused on a different challenge: how those molecules could have become organized into a functioning living system. To investigate this, Endres developed a mathematical framework based on information theory and algorithmic complexity. Information theory is a branch of mathematics that studies how information is stored, measured and organized. In this study, it was used to estimate how much meaningful information a biological system would have needed to function. Algorithmic complexity measures how much information or how many instructions are required to describe or recreate something. More complex systems require more detailed organization. The study applied these ideas to a protocell, a simple cell-like structure that scientists considered a possible early step toward life. A protocell would have needed basic features, such as a boundary separating its internal chemical environment from its surroundings, before more advanced biological processes could develop. Using modern computational estimates, the research evaluated how difficult it would have been to assemble the organized biological information needed for a protocell under plausible prebiotic conditions. Prebiotic conditions referred to Earth's chemical and physical environment before life existed, including oceans, minerals and energy sources that might have supported chemical reactions. The findings suggested that forming a viable protocell would have faced major informational and physical barriers during the relatively limited time available in Earth's early history. As biological systems became more complex, the amount of organized information required also increased, making spontaneous assembly through random processes increasingly difficult. The study compared this challenge to trying to write an article about the origins of life for a well-renowned space-based website by randomly placing letters onto a page. Individual letters might have appeared by chance, but producing a complete and meaningful article became vastly less likely as more information was required. The comparison illustrated why assembling a highly organized biological system presented such a significant scientific challenge. The research also examined entropy, a concept in physics that describes the number of possible arrangements within a system and is often associated with increasing disorder. Because natural processes tend to move toward states with greater entropy, explaining how the highly organized structures found in living systems developed from non-living matter remains a major scientific challenge. The study did not conclude that life could not have originated naturally on Earth. Instead, it suggested that current scientific understanding might have been incomplete and that additional physical principles or mechanisms might have been needed to explain how biological organization first emerged. The paper stated that "Ultimately, uncovering physical principles for life's spontaneous emergence remains a grand challenge for biological physics." Biological physics is the field that applies the principles of physics to understand living systems, from molecules and cells to larger biological structures. The study also discussed directed panspermia, a speculative hypothesis suggesting that life might have been intentionally introduced to Earth by an advanced extraterrestrial civilization. Directed panspermia was originally proposed by Francis Crick and Leslie Orgel. The idea remained a possible but unconfirmed explanation and had not been supported by direct evidence. The paper stated, "While the idea of Earth being terraformed by advanced extraterrestrials might violate Occam's razor from within mainstream science, directed panspermia -- originally proposed by Francis Crick and Leslie Orgel -- remains a speculative but logically open alternative." Occam's razor is the scientific and philosophical principle that, when multiple explanations fit the available evidence, the one requiring the fewest assumptions is generally preferred. The study noted that directed panspermia introduced more assumptions than natural origin models. The research did not present directed panspermia as the preferred explanation, nor did it rule out the possibility that life emerged naturally on Earth. Instead, it measured the scale of the informational challenge and suggested that further discoveries might be needed to identify mechanisms that could explain the transition from non-living chemistry to life. Scientists continued investigating the origin of life through chemistry, biology, geology and physics. Previous research had explored environments such as hydrothermal vents, shallow pools and mineral surfaces where early chemical processes might have taken place. This study did not directly test those ideas. Instead, it examined the broader requirements that any successful explanation would have needed to meet. By combining mathematics with biology, the research aimed to provide a more quantitative way of studying the origin of life. Although it did not answer how life began, it highlighted the complexity of the problem and the need for further research into one of science's most enduring mysteries. • I was surprised too, but it was the only working one I could find at the time. BTW, Google Gemini pointed the blame at tech sites that are overzealously implementing anti-bot stuff and mistaking some RSS apps for being bots. That's consistent with the Forbidden and Access Denied responses these two RSS apps were getting. That said, I'm glad these apps are back to working with Neowin's standard Feed URLs.
    • good day dear friends,      update: well i think that i have solved this issue - i did some investigations & experiments and finally i think i have found out a solution.  Btw: i am more  than glad to be part of this great forum. Its a big big and incredible help for me. Keep up this great place - it rocks   full story: update:  i think that this is the thing...:  the basis: in the  Twentytwentyfour-theme (TT4)  i want to have a  News-Block:  a. Block 1 (News)   which shows the latest three news - News 1 - News 2 - News 3 i guess that this is so called Query Loop Block (Posts, sort: newest, count: 3) - see here: hmm - well i guess that this is exactly a Query Loop block. Since the Twenty Twenty-Four (TT4) theme is a full-site editing (FSE) block theme, we can build this layout directly in the editor without writing any code. How to configure the block in the TT4 theme Insert the block: Add a Query Loop block into our Hero section. Settings in the right sidebar: Post Type: select Posts. Order: WordPress defaults to Newest to oldest, which matches our requirement. Count: set Items per page to exactly 3. Sticky posts: set this to Exclude so that old, pinned posts do not break your chronological order. well i think that the  structure for our layout sketch could be done like so: To match our sketch precisely, we could nest the blocks inside the editor like this so - as an example: Group (here we use this to set the background color for our red 🟥 Hero area) Heading: "the actual news & Updates" Query Loop BlockPost Template (this repeats automatically 3 times)List or Group (to achieve the bullet point • look) Post Title (linked to the single post) Buttons: "[see all news →]" (manually link this button to your main news archive page) Well i  think  that i try this out - btw: how to filter this block so it only displays a specific category (e.g., only "News" instead of general blog posts), if someone has a idea - it would be great have a great day.🤩 and keep up the great forum - a awesome place for idea-sharing and much much more👍 btw: see below a drawing of the supposed setup.
    • My experience since going cloud only is that things are easier to manage and there are less issues. Also reduced tech staff required for manage a larger amount of users / computers. My experience is that its the third party services, cloud printing etc that are behind in the reliability stakes and cause frustrations.
