So what is behind all the distaste for the Consumer Preview then?

You covered the reasons very well in your initial post. While those issues might not be important to you, they certainly are important to businesses and a large number of consumers.

Personally, I think it is pretty good (so far), but needs some more thought given to mouse/trackpad control on the Start screen (such as fixing the inconsistency between being able to click and drag to move the lock screen, but not the Start screen).

I completely forgot about that. People bitched up a storm becuase Windows 7 didn't look too much different from Vista, and many, MANY, tech pundits predicted its failure as a result.... Now look where we are. :rolleyes:

I remember that one! Haters are spouting fuds saying how Windows 7 is a Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and not worth the upgrade, and, you know how that end.
