Firebird is excellent. Please don't be mislead.

The problem of the links at http://kryptographicsdesign.tk is due to an uncommon and costly use of Javascript to implement dynamic effects.

The effect on the links (show underline on mouseover) can be done very easily using CSS, which is the standard and recommended way. Clearer code, more portable, and faster as well. In the html page of the left menu, here is what to to:

PUT THIS IN THE <HEAD> SECTION:

<style type="text/css">

A {

font-family: Times Roman;

font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold;

color: #FFFFFF;

text-decoration: none;

}

A:hover { text-decoration: underline; }

</style>

...

Now for the links, remove the big <span ...> with all the inline javascripts and replace by a normal HREF like:

<a href="main.htm" target="ContentFrame">Home</a><br/>

<a href="rhodiumx.htm" target="ContentFrame">RhodiumX</a><br/>

...

I'll be glad to fix your HTML code if you need me to.

RhodiumX is an excellent VS. In my modest VS collection, it is ranked #1. The only complain I have is that the title bar is almost gray and I mistake it sometime with the window it self, especially when there is several overlapped windows. I wonder if tiger2K would consider acceptable to make the title bar entirely (or mostly) blue/green/orange.

Thanks for this great style and the web site.

tiger2k, yes it's much better. The title text is also easier to read (better contrast). The little gray bar on top of the blue reduces some how the space available to write the text. Can you just try another variation where the blue part is entirely blue?

I'm sorry, I don't mean to criticize your style. Sometime, overloaded details visually distract the eyes from the essential.

I just thought you guys should know the shellstyle that was released with RhodiumX is only filler untill we get permission to use the images in the "Real" Shellstyles.

However the author has'nt responded yet and I emailed him and PM'ed him and left a message on his devientart pages and after a week still no response ..

If I havent heard from him by monday Im going to assume that he loves the idea and was just too busy to respond.

Ill leave you with this little teaser untill then :D

the shellstyle is what "skins" the taskpane (leftwindow in explorer) and the category view for the control panel and the "These files are hidden" view for system folders

and yes a visual style can work without a shellstyle .. its a little boring without a matching shellstyle though .. just run one of the default stylexp styles you will see that the default system shellstyle is being used instead of a custom one

i don't remeber where i got that wallpaper, i think it was here on neowin someone posted it on a desktop thread some time back in December last year :s , i was thinking of putting a wallpaper section but i have to ask permission to release the wallpapers, and some walls i don't even know where i got from

who knows .. mostly i think its a unsupported ability "wink wink" windows is themeable but ms doesnt offer technical support if you theme it beyond the default styles, which is a reasonable stance since ms cant warranty or help you troubleshoot your installation if you modify it beyond what they send you ..

Another beginer question: it sounds like MS doesn't want people to use non-MS visual style (because you need StyleXP or patching UXtheme.dll). Why is that? It's a marketing non-sense to me. Especially when alternative VS are much better than the default XP VS.

Yup, like OldeCrow said, they don't want to be drowned in support requests from people using faulty/poorly designed visual styles.

tiger2k,

I've been meaning to compliment you on this outstanding theme. It looks like you had Office 2003 in mind while making it. If not, it really brings out some nice visuals in Outlook! The orange theme is my favorite

i don't use office, i don't even have it installed, but im glad it looks great with the theme, maybe i should give it a try

    • Hello, Version 19 of ESET's consumer offerings are 64-bit only. The 32-bit installers are for Version 18, which were announced in this Neowin article. In addition to ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Internet Security, ESET Smart Security Premium, and ESET Security Ultimate, both ESET Safe Server and ESET Small Business Security v19.1.14.0 have been released as well. • I can name 10x that on why not to switch.... It's funny outlook/office are going towards web app wrappers, and then MS is now preaching native apps again.... ugh can we just pick a lane and stay in it
    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
