I had made an active decision to stop posting in the Neowin Digital Gallery. I found issue with the fact that people would post images of scantily dressed women (which is fine), and that some of the users would follow with undignified comments that I felt did not belong on a forum in which art, ideas and critique were shared. I brought up the issue and nobody seemed to feel the same way, so I decided to stop sharing my images.

It has been quite some time since then, and with odd timing related to Guppy's post, about two weeks ago I decided to start posting here again. Since I "left" the Digital Gallery, I've started working a full time job and I'm 3/5 done with my MBA; as such, free time for photography is quite limited.

-------------

Now, for the image I came to post!

Does anybody know what this is? I shot it about 2 months back during a meteor shower. It looks like a galaxy to me, but I'm not quite sure. The 4 exposures range in time from 6-30 seconds.

Surely is doesn't matter what people post does it?

You post your photos for feedback and can skip past the daft comments / photos :)

How did you catch such a detailed photo of space? It does look like a galaxy

Sure does look like a galaxy, or at least a nebula!

Of course it matters what other people post. The whole reason for coming to this community is because of what other people post.

Nikon D90, 28mm f1.8 @ f1.8 and 6-30 seconds. I went out to an uninhabited area in the SF Bay area (click the image to view the map on flickr for the exact location) that is about as dark as you can get in the area.

I was shooting for meteors, but got this instead. I guess I'm happy with it, though!

Well i'll admit, I spam "id hit that" any where and everywhere, followed by a serious comment though :p Seriously crazzy, even @ dpreview, you get lots of horny instagramers :/ ! You do have a point though, but why quit posting on childish posts? there are ignore buttons you know!

Might wanna lay off capturing other galaxies or they might take you!!! Nice catch! I would've just discarded it as shutter blur or something alike. !

Ps and the same goes for you, STAY back :p

I've been tryin to get some night shots of the starts. I can't get the iso and shutter time right, but eventually i'll get there.

i had to tweak this one in photoshop (mostly blurred it to get rid of the noise),

also some of the stars are streaking, this is due to the shutter time being too long. i think it was maybe 15-20 sec in this pic.

Not that bad! Welcome to the digital gallery. Could've curtain synced the stop sign to light it up a bit.

Would you believe me if i told you that photo was taken with cheap Walmart $50 blackfriday kodak camera?

I recently got a Canon t2i, so i can take more complex photos though. I know its not super pro, but it works. For example the night pictures.

But i still like to use cheap cameras for some shots.

thanks :D

No, I wouldn't! pretty amazing shot

Just proves http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htm this guy has a point ;) He has pretty good basic articles, just don't read his equipment reviews, he biases them according to how he feels that day, one day it's canon, the next it's nikon and then back to canon... But again, his begginer "guides" are a good starting point.

Wow, I'd love to live somewhere we got those temps... in the tropics I think 3-5 celsius nasty humid, moist, watery is all we get :p

Couple of shots from december taken with work camera (Canon somemodel, shockproof and waterproof)

Makeshift flash ( iphone 4s :p ) I'm guessing that's the weird color cast. 8412851366_52ede097e9_h.jpg

My 9-10 year old mutt ! Healthy lazy fat ass queen! My girl calls here a "watermelon with chopsticks for feet". Canela! I love her dearly! :D

My best half improvising with a crappy Samsung NV15 with touch buttons ( well crappy for night time shots without flash anyway...). trying to get artistics with a dozen dozen roses I gave her for her BD.

Tequila and ranch dressing?!?!

And man... No offense but that water mark is too obtrusive! It distracts from the image.

BRACE YOURSELVES. The watermark war is returning!

Gallery: Microsoft dresses up E3 booth in black, showcases One S, Sea of Thieves and more
      by Timi Cantisano

Over the past couple of years, Neowin has provided virtual booth tours by publishing galleries of Microsoft's Xbox booth at E3. This year, the booth offers a more matured look, as the company has strayed from emblazoning the setup in "Xbox Green", and has instead, opted to go with a simple black motif.

Although some of the first signage you'll see entering the Xbox booth is for Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 3, make no mistake, the Xbox One S is the first main attraction booth visitors will be greeted by, and it is fantastic. Although you cannot lay hands on the newly announced console, it's still a sight to behold and looks mesmerizing from every angle.

Pushing deeper into the booth, kiosks to play the aforementioned Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 3 become available, along with other titles announced at the Xbox E3 Briefing. Ghost Recon Wildlands, Cuphead, The Turing Test are just some of the titles available to play when roaming around the show floor.

Perhaps one of the more interesting parts of the Xbox experience at E3 is the Xbox Design Lab nook that allowed attendees to get their hands on sample customized controllers, and even take time to create their own custom controller on the Design Lab website.

Although Xbox owners have a lot to look forward to in 2016, many will already be thinking much further down the road at 2017, when Microsoft's next console, Project Scorpio will be released. But until then, enjoy our booth gallery.

Is any JSON gurus around? I use JSON library for my website gallery pages and everything up to thumbnails #9 works great. The problem starts when I click on thumbnail #10 (4-th row the first image from the left). When I click on it, it supposed to open the block with bigger image and additional text but it does not show anything, same for the thumbnail #20. If user clicks on thumbnail #11, it will show big image and text that correspond to thumbnails #1. My guess is  - JavaScript doesn't read 2 digits and reads only the one from right only: "10 "reads like  "0"; "11", "21" reads like "1".
Anyone can point me how to fix it in my code? I would appreciate any advice or help.
For each page I have group of files  - php (http://iskpublishing.com/fine-art/gallery-still-life.php), which works as an html and 2 files with javaScript coding (http://iskpublishing.com/fine-art/js/still-life-function.js  http://iskpublishing.com/fine-art/json/still-life.json )

      Thank you.

Even more images of Nokia's 'Moonraker' smartwatch show up
      by Vlad Dudau

The competition in the smartwatch market may just be heating up, but one device that will never get to compete is Nokia’s canceled “Moonraker” watch.

We first heard of the device last summer, when some leaked render shots showed what could have been if Microsoft had ever let this device come to market. But since then, images of the prototype smartwatch have continued to show up, including an entire gallery which we published a couple of days ago.

But if that didn’t satisfy your needs, we’ve got even more images of the “Moonraker” watch today, seemingly following on from the previous showcase. As you can see in the images, which come from China, the device is shown in full detail, including some of its internals.

There’s even a side by side comparison of the watch’s power port next to a power port of a supposed Lumia tablet. The device in question does seem to follow the Nokia/Lumia design aesthetic we’re used to, but whether this is the old 8-inch mini tablet from back in 2013 or the newer Mercury tablet from last year is hard to say.

In either case, that’s pretty much a moot point at this time as Microsoft is focusing all of its wearable efforts on the Band 2, while today’s Nokia seems to have very little interest in consumer devices.

Welcome to the Neowin photo gallery! Here you can post your pictures and discuss your photography techniques.

Please be mindful of our members on dial-up and try to keep the dimensions of the pics and the size of the files to a respectable size for 1024 x 768 viewers. Please refrain from quoting images in your replies.

I will also ask that you link to images on your own space, as much as possible.

Try to put more details from your camera settings (EXIF) and also talk about what you have done with Photoshop (or similar).
There are a lot of photographers here that like your editing skills and would like to learn more.

The previous thread can be found here.

Posting your photos is made easier thanks to a member contribution! Argote created a Flickr to IPB webapp, thanks! [direct link to app]
