Like Skyrim, each of the protagonists? skills in certain disciplines ? shooting, driving, flying and so on ? improves the more they are used. So while Franklin will start the game as the most accomplished driver and Trevor?s time in the military means he?s the best pilot, you?ll be able to redress the balance simply by playing the game. Stamina, lung capacity, strength and stealth are also tracked, and Rockstar says new tools and boosts will be unlocked as you improve.

So not happy that this isn't getting an immediate PC release!

Hope we don't have to wait months and month for another terrible port again!

If it is coming to the PC at all. Rockstar has been very quiet about a potential PC release - too quiet.

Damn this sounds amazing

  • Full underwater world for exploration, SCUBA diving and mini submarines
  • Skill progression, RPG Lite mechanics
  • Missions can be played Stealthily or all out Assault
  • Combat more like Max Payne 3
  • Pick from a crew to go on heists, more people = less of a cut, less people = more risk but bigger reward
  • Citizens on Patrol: NPCs will call the cops and or take your picture with cellphone if they see you do bad things
  • World bigger than GTA4, San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption COMBINED
  • Player customisation: Tattoos, hairstyles, etc..
  • Weapon Customisation: Attachments, hopefully silencers
  • Car Customisation: Body, handling, performance mods, change colour and license plates
  • Random Missions: Like Red Dead Redemption completely optional side missions will pop up on the map and be completely dynamic, people asking for help, hitchhikers, etc..
  • Lots of things to do: Full 18 hole Golf and you can choose your clubs, Tennis, Bike Races, Base Jumping, Robbing ATMs.

I want this in my veins NOW, not in 5 months time :(

Far Cry 3 was an open-world game too, yet it had excellent graphics. The media put out for GTA5 doesn't look substantially better than GTA4, a game that was released five years ago.

Far Cry 3 did look nice but the world is nowhere near as detailed and dense as what GTAV is trying to achieve.

Here is what I hope will happen, but it's just my dream.

They are very quiet about a PC version, release the game and let it sell on current consoles. Then the new consoles arrive and they do an enhanced version for PC and new consoles spring next year.

There was some hinting on NeoGAF about a previewer asking what they use to capture the trailer footage and wether it was from a PC build because it looked better than the console footage they just played and the Rockstar guy said that it was running on PS3/360 and is "current gen" footage.

Wonder if that was a little slip and maybe the reason for the delay was to have a next gen and/or PC build ready.

I'm excited. I'm sold for the game. This whole graphics argument is being driven by like... one person; not sure why it even keeps getting brought up. :ermm:

They seem to be putting a lot of work into the game, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Really like the fact that they're allowing you to play as one of the three characters too! They really seem much more engaging than the cast of GTAIV.

My only disappointment is the lack of a PC announcement. I'm really hoping with the nex-gen consoles on the way that they make a release for them as well (and PC) because otherwise, I'll be buying a Playstation 3 just for this game. (I kidd you not)

I'm a traditional PC user, but in this case ill be getting this game on my xbox. In the xbox's case, I bought the xbox just for Mortal Kombat lol. It appears thoe Mortal Kombat may finally get a PC release soon enough.

I have no doubt that they will port V to PC, and since it is easier to port games between PC and next-gen consoles I don't see why they wouldn't take advantage of the new market. A current gen release in September, and a next-gen (PC, PS4, XBOX) release next year.

It's a common complaint on gaming sites, as there are numerous comments critical of the graphics over on the Blue's News topic. Personally I find it strange that people can defend the outdated graphics of a game like this yet be excited for the next generation consoles, all the while dismissing PC gamers who already have access to graphics in excess of what will be available.

It's not about defending outdated graphics. Let's be realistic here: do you really think they're going to change it this late in development?

The best we can hope for is a next-gen version release with updated graphics for PC/PS4/Xthing. Even then, I honestly wouldn't hold my breath seeing as a release for PC or the next generation of consoles has yet to be announced. We can speculate until we're blue in the face, but it's all for nothing without any more details to go on.

Anyway, I'm glad they're taking steps to provide more substance to the world. GTAIV, as much as I enjoyed it, felt rather shallow. You have this awesome city to explore, but not much to do.

No. I was merely expressing my disappointment, as I've been a fan of the GTA franchise since the original game. Originally it was released on PC first but over time Rockstar has favoured consoles to the detriment of the PC, something which the developers of Saints Row and Mafia didn't do - in fact both franchises have seen much higher quality PC releases. From a narrative perspective GTA5 looks decent, it's just disappointing that the PC version?the one platform where it could really shine?is treated with such disrespect by Rockstar.

I honestly believe that GTA5 would have been a much better game?both in terms of gameplay and graphics?if it had been developed for PC simultaneously to consoles. Mafia II had great graphics for the time and was much better optimised than GTA4 - it came out later but GTA4 simply didn't scale to better hardware because of the poorly coded engine.

Yeah, but Mafia II has hiccups with the gameplay. This is what it comes down to overall: having not only a fantastic open world to explore, but one that is actually enjoyable. Take Skyrim for instance which many people credit as being amazing... until they realize how shallow the combat is, repetitive the missions are, and so forth. We need good stories in these vast open worlds. We need more substance, and more to do.

Otherwise, building a beautiful and empty world will only lead us to disappointment. Or worse: "HEY GUYS, WE ACTUALLY HAVE CONTENT NOW... FOR A SMALL FEE OF $14.95!" Ugh.

Mafia II had a great narrative and excellent graphics / setting but it was obviously very limited in comparison to GTA4, which was a shame. As for Skyrim, the gameplay was certainly shallow from a depth perspective?especially in comparison to something like The Witcher 2?but I found the game world and exploration quite compelling. To me, Far Cry 3 was the best to balance core gameplay with open world exploration - it certainly wasn't perfect but it redefined the genre.

We're still a long way from games that truly have depth and take full advantage of an open world setting. I think that's one of the reasons that Watch_Dogs interests me, because if the gameplay can be made as compelling and varied as the gameplay video I think it will set the standard for the genre. However, it's too early to say if that will be the case and GTA5 might still surprise people.

Rockstar has released 12 new images, now I've seen this storm drain before

and I don't remember seeing water in it...

That isn't just a storm drain, that's the GTAV interpretation of the L.A. River ... most likely the Los Santos River for the game.

I'm wondering if it appears after bad weather :| doubtful, but would of been cool.

Actually, it would have (or would've) been cool, not "would of" . . .

It seems there is a lot of nice anti-alising in that screenshot (it appears very smooth), so I doubt this is a screenshot from an actual 360/PS3. Most likely a dev kit. Shame, as many people will think it will look that smooth when the game is finally out.

PC version of GTA3: Vice City came out 6 months after the PS2 version.

PC version of GTA3: San Andreas came out 7 months after the PS2 version.

PC version of Grand Theft Auto 4 came out 7 months after the console versions.

PC version of GTA4: The Lost and Damned came out 11.5 months after the console versions.

PC version of GTA4: The Ballad of Gay Tony came out 5.5 months after the console versions.

I hope it doesn't take long for V to come out on PC :(

    • Same Internet Archive seemed to grab the new version https://web.archive.org/web/20...d/Setup_MakeMKV_v1.18.4.exe Here's the link to an additional file it periodically downloads https://web.archive.org/web/20260213092148/https://www.makemkv.com/sdf.bin I think update's keys, etc. To manually trigger this update, put the sdf.bin file in the root of where the program is installed. When you launch the program it will pick up the file and import it. Typically put it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV\sdf.bin
    • Windows 11 KB5094126, KB5093998 bugging out Office apps but it may not be Microsoft's fault by Sayan Sen Microsoft last week released Windows 11 KB5094126 and KB5093998 as the latest Patch Tuesday updates. Following that the company also published the accompanying dynamic updates under KB5094149, KB5095971, and KB5094156. Although the tech giant did not acknowledge any major problems, some users online reported various issues ranging from OneDrive and Dropbox access problems, BitLocker recovery lockouts, to blue screens and BSODs. You can read about them in this dedicated piece. While there is still no confirmation about those problems from Microsoft the company has admitted to another bug which we did not report on. The tech giant has confirmed it has received reports of an issue in which certain third-party applications may be unable to launch Microsoft Office apps or open Office documents after installing the Patch Tuesday. This affects both Windows 11 as well as Windows 10. The company says the problem impacts a subset of applications that rely on OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) automation to communicate with Microsoft Office programs. According to Microsoft, affected scenarios involve third-party software attempting to open Office applications or documents from within their own interface. In such cases, the Office program may fail to launch altogether, or the requested document may not open. Oddly there may not be any error message, which probably makes the issue difficult to diagnose. The bug affects several Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other apps in the Microsoft Office suite when they are launched through the affected software. These include tax and accounting software such as CCH Engagement and Workpaper Manager, dental practice management solutions like Dentrix and Softdent, as well as the popular research and reference management tool Zotero. Microsoft adds that other applications using similar Office integration methods could also experience the same problematic behavior. To understand the issue it is important to look at OLE, the Microsoft technology involved. OLE allows different applications to work together and share data, while its Automation feature lets one program control another. Thus this enables third-party software to launch Microsoft Office apps, open documents, and perform tasks automatically without requiring users to switch between programs. Because many accounting, healthcare, research, and business applications rely on OLE automation to interact with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps, any disruption can break those workflows. As a result, affected software may be unable to open Office documents or launch Office applications even though the programs themselves continue to work normally. At the moment the company has not provided a permanent fix though it has confirmed that engineers are actively working on a resolution, which will be delivered through a future Windows update. As such additional details will be shared once more information becomes available. In the meantime, Microsoft recommends a simple workaround for affected users whic is to open the Office application or document directly rather than launching it through the third-party program. For enterprise customers and organizations managing larger deployments, Microsoft says an additional mitigation is available. Admins experiencing the problem on their managed devices are advised to contact Microsoft Support for business to obtain and apply the workaround.
