Boston Bombing Suspects - MIT Shooting - Manhunt

unsurprisingly it's none of the people picked out by the internet mob... to bad 4chan and gang have already made life really sucky for several innocent people already with their amateur "CSI"

Please don't clog up this thread with conspiracy theory images/posts. This is for discussion of the FBI press conference and images/suspects released. Go back to 4Chan if you want to pretend you are part of CSI.

had to laugh at the guy on cnn "as you can see the image quality is great"

why are we still using crappy cameras in 2013? I swear if everyone upgraded to better cameras we would solve a lot more stuff. storage is also cheap. I don't get it.

Internet mob? How about the New York post, they ran a full page cover of the wrong guys.

These are likely coming from private DVR systems setup for businesses, this is actually pretty good resolution for the off-the-shelf DVR kits.

Storage isn't cheap when you have to run several cameras 24x7. It would be at least several TB/day.

Seems the FBI is using the 4chan rule of thumb: alone, brown, black backpack, not watching.

I run 8 cameras on motion only in a high traffic area, color, no audio on a 1TB system. Using MPEG4 compression I can hold about 3-4 months of video.

FBI has more evidence then just what they released, I'm sure they have video/pictures of them placing the bombs, etc. But they aren't going to release that type of stuff as it is evidentiary in nature and could compromise the federal case.

I heard that since the guy in the white cap was taped talking on a cell phone and the video had a time stamp...that its most likey the cell phone call could be tracked and provide even most evidence to identify him...but then again he could have been faking talking on a cell phone.

I'm guessing it won't be long until they use kinect type technology along with very hidef cameras to be able to make 3d "sculptures" of suspects. Then they could have their build, height, appearance, gate, everything.

If those are "good quality" HD videos then I would print and then eat my post. :) I thought he was saying it would be easy to store quality HD videos (say at least a home hd cam quality at 6Mbps) and multiply them into X number of cameras on a busy area like Copley Square.

The only chance of finding the suspects of the Boston bombing now is if Obama says "Cue the sun" and makes sure everyone in first positions! Seriously though, I hope they get the Boston bomber(s) soon, its frightening they still have not been caught yet!!

I hope and pray that they capture the right folks, and don't create a mob mentality, and go after easy (and wrong) targets to satisy the pressure to get the folks responsible.

That said, the fella in the white hat has a huge nose - it should be easy to identify him, unless it was putty or fake to begin with.

That, that being said, while I hate things like this, and wars etc, it is always very awesome to see the tech that comes out of stuff like this, and how the government and agencies track people and things down.

    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
