Hidden between the lines of the history books is the story of Mary Stuart, the young woman the world would come to know as Mary, Queen of Scots. Queen of Scotland since she was six days old, the teenage Mary is already a headstrong monarch; beautiful, passionate, and poised at the very beginning of her tumultuous rise to power. Arriving in France with four close friends as her ladies-in-waiting, Mary has been sent to secure Scotland?s strategic alliance by formalizing her arranged engagement to the French king?s dashing son, Prince Francis. But the match isn?t signed and sealed, it depends more on politics, religion and secret agendas than affairs of the heart. Prince Francis is intrigued by the fiery Scot, but like most young men, he resists the idea of settling down into marriage, especially when he has a history with a lady of the court and his own point of view on the wisdom of an alliance with Scotland. Still, an attraction between Mary and Francis is ignited. Further complicating things is Bash, Francis? roguish half-brother, who has a history of his own: despite his illegitimate birth, Bash is his father?s favorite. And now that Bash has caught Mary?s eye, a royal triangle may be forming. While at French Court, fierce foes and dark forces conspire to sabotage Mary?s marriage to Francis and even threaten her life, until a mysterious shrouded guide becomes her ally. With danger and sexual intrigue around every dark castle corner, Mary rallies her ladies-in-waiting and steels herself, ready to rule the new land and balance the demands of her country and her heart.

'Reign' co-creator Stephanie SenGupta exits series

Stephanie SenGupta, the mind that came up with the new CW series 'Reign' about a young Mary Queen of Scots, has exited the project before the first episode has even aired.

Co-creator/executive producer/co-showrunner SenGupta will depart the project, leaving co-creator/executive producer Laurie McCarthy as sole showrunner on the series. This is dismaying news, as all reports contend that 'Reign' was SenGupta's idea; however it seems that over the course of production, SenGupta and McCarthy were not seeing eye to eye. SenGupta will be leaving to develop a new series, as sole showrunner.

SenGuptaThe high-profile upcoming series 'Reign' has a lot of buzz and landed the coveted timeslot following 'The Vampire Diaries' on The CW. "The previously unknown and untold story of Mary Queen of Scots? rise to power when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting. The secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue;" the Logline suggests a potential series mired in actual history, with some embellishments and dramatic elements added.

There is no shortage of real drama in the history books surrounding Mary Stuart, including the Treaty of Greenwich and her betrothing at the age of five. She was accompanied, when moved to the French court, by four girls her own age (who presumably will round out the supporting cast for 'Reign'). There were many who believed Mary to be the rightful heir to the English throne, as well; rebellions were waged in that honor. There are endless directions that 'Reign' could take, now that it has been picked up to series.

SenGupta recently served as executive producer on 'Hawaii Five-0.' It stands to reason that the television veteran will land on her feet.

CW Cuts Naughty Scene From "Reign" Pilot

EW reports that the final pilot going to air will see a cut down version of a scene in the 16th century royal drama that involves one of the Queen's teenage ladies-in-waiting ("Tomorrow When the War Began" and "Neighbours" actress Caitlin Stasey) masturbating in a stairwell after witnessing a 'bedding ceremony'.

It's there that Alan van Sprang's King of France character comes upon her (not literally) and smugly offers his assistance to take over. That was the uncut version which was sent out in a review copy to advertisers and media a while back.

The final cut, which was just sent to critics and will air on the network this week, follows the same order but considerably cuts the self-gratification so that what she does is far more implied than explicitly shown.

Oddly enough, the new version also adds in a scene of gratuitous violence - a quick shot of "a man?s beheading complete with his neck stump spurting blood".

Yeah and the ratings are very bad so I sense a cancellation

It has a 7.3 on imdb.. not horrible.. but not great.  For me.. the show is very.. dry.  Like it has some cool stuff but it seems to drag.. I guess I got spoiled with game of thrones and expect any medieval style show to be the same caliber.

If only IMDB was an indicator for a shows success :p
