The Messengers is no more after being axed following just one season.

The drama series, which followed a group trying to find the Devil and prevent the Apocalypse, will not return to The CW.

Starring in the show were Shantel VanSanten of One Tree Hill, Sofia Black-D'Elia (Gossip Girl) and Joel Courtney (The Haunting Hour).

The Messengers had recently been hitting low ratings, last month earning 0.3 (1.18m), down 25% from the premiere of Rachel Bilson's Hart of Dixie.

Meanwhile, Bilson's series is also getting cancelled.

Hart of Dixie ran for four seasons before facing the axe.
