It will come in good time, at least allow it a few more days for a good leak. The first leak will be Chinese or some crap knowing our luck heh. Look forward to seeing some kids QQ over activation when they find KMS wont work :D But it is already possible to activate it by other means than a legit key, but probably to much trouble for some or to late for them to take advantage of it.

I read that when we upgrade from the 8.1 Preview to RTM, we will lose our applications. However, when I upgraded from win7-8 no loss of apps or settings. Win 8 RTM to 8.1 preview same thing, no loss of apps.

But I have been researching this and concensus seems to confirm that we will lose all the programs we installed. Can anyone with knowledge of Windows/8/8.1 fill me in on how this would happen or work?

I shouldn't assume and the military taught me to never assume however, I must be getting soft in that Dept.

Is there a reason for the 8.1 upgrade to annihilate our programs or apps on the installation?

Going from 8 - latest leaked build everything was just updated for me when doing the update. I am almost 100% windows 8.1 (being classes as just an update) wont remove you're apps or settings for those apps. You might get the odd App or Driver issue with "not compatible with this version of windows" crap but that will likely be very rare. After all its just an update, not a service pack, not a fresh install and not really a new OS. I debt many apps (if any at all) would just support windows 8 and not 8.1. anything that works on 8 should work on 8.1 from the store.

Of course you will lose your apps and basically have to do a clean install. Same goes for just about every other Windows Beta to RTM release.

As I posted, I did an upgrade route to keep my apps and settings and it worked well.

my thinking is along the lines of replacing system files or doing a pseudo fresh install. i'm not mad about that, I have no problem re-installing my programs, actually kind of fun since my Laptop will have a fresh installation.

"If you start your PC from removable media that you created when you downloaded the ISO, you won't be able to keep your apps, Windows settings, or personal files when you update.

If you're upgrading from

Windows 8

You can keep

Windows settings, personal files, and most apps

and

When you install subsequent editions of Windows 8.1 you'll be able to keep your personal files, but you'll need to reinstall your apps.

"

This is from Windows 8 - Windows 8.1 Release Preview. The only time you will loose anything is via a clean/fresh install. If you just update via the store or put the USB/DVD install device into your PC and click upgrade you will also keep stuff.

You will only loose everything if you choose to fresh install.  Note it only says "if you START your PC from removable media" this means you boot from the USB/DVD with windows on it rather than into windows its self that is installed on the hard drive.

Just turn your PC on go to store and download the windows 8.1 update. OR download the .ISO make a Bootable USB stick or burn the ISO to DVD. Place DVD/USB into drive (With PC still on) and when the windows 8.1 installer shows up make sure you just click the upgrade option and not the "custom install"

Nice!

Hopefully it will be released sooner for MSDN/TechNet... Because Microsoft never gave a formal statement on this; just rumours so far..., right?!

Yup, just a rumor so far, take it with a grain of salt ATM. Mr. Leblanc always announce RTM sign-off and release schedules in Blogging Windows, but on a later date. :)

Didn't notice there was a so-called "RTM info" thread, until I read Angel of Despair's tweet.

Anyway, get a life (as of now, at least :) )

p.s. : Mr. P.T. is "trusted source"?? lmfao.

p.s.2 : Arseny92 was actually the guy posting that MS letter to the OEM's, and he explained what that actually was.....why called him names? :(

    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
    • Mafia: The Old Country expansion Man of Honor announced, brings back Salieri from original by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe During Summer Game Fest, 2K and Hanger 13 brought out a new Mafia: The Old Country trailer, revealing the game's first expansion. Named Man of Honor, this is slated to add two new chapters to the Enzo storyline that the game follows. There is an iconic character returning to the series with this expansion, with players set to run into Ennio Salieri, the future Don of the Salieri crime family. Fans of the original Mafia, or its Definitive Edition remake, may remember that name as one of the biggest characters in the storyline. This expansion is set prior to his rise to being the kingpin in the City of Lost Heaven. "Set in Sicily during the winter of 1905, Enzo Favara has proven himself a reliable soldier of the Torrisi crime family in the months since his initiation," says the studio about the new chapters. "Now, the Don entrusts him and Cesare with a delicate assignment of assisting Ennio Salieri, a man of honor recently released from prison and intent on reclaiming what is his." Working at Salieri's side, players will be heading into fresh environments as they return to the role of Enzo as a high-ranking soldato. The studio also promises brand-new weapons, fresh vehicles, and charms to collect in this expansion. Moreover, the expansion will add new content to the updated Free Ride mode. Alongside new collectibles and locations, this will add more challenges to beat alongside Salieri, which are described as runs that will "test the skills of even the most elite mafiosi." The Mafia: The Old Country Man of Honor story expansion will release on August 14, 2026, across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. It will cost $10 for owners of the base game to jump into.

    • Telltale returns with The Wolf Among Us, re-revealing the sequel and a new remaster by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Telltale Games, the studio known for its episodic games from the 2000s, had a surprise appearance at the Summer Game Fest showcase today. The studio has gone through a collapse, an acquisition, and a revival but has largely gone silent in recent years. Today's sudden announcement was for the popular The Wolf Among Us series, with news about the sequel and a remaster dropping. Set after the events of the 2013-released title, the sequel will bring back Biby Wolf for a new adventure in Fabletown. This town of fairy tale characters is becoming unstable, with Snow White not being able to keep order as before. "When a brutal series of crimes threatens to fracture the fragile balance holding Fabletown together, Bigby Wolf, sheriff of Fabletown, finds himself drawn into a dangerous conspiracy that reaches deep into the city’s criminal underworld," says the studio. "As suspicion spreads across the city and powerful forces work against him, Bigby must uncover the truth and decide what kind of sheriff - and what kind of wolf - he is willing to become." At the same time, Telltale also announced The Wolf Among Us Remastered, bringing back the classic with a fresh coat of paint. This will include all five episodes from the original game plus over an hour of extra content that will offer behind-the-scenes videos, cast interviews, image galleries, and deleted scenes. The remaster will also have updated visuals and improved UI elements and accessibility features, alongside upgrades to the animations, audio, and frame rates. Telltale has been working on this project for almost a decade now, but if the new release schedule holds, fans will be able to jump into The Wolf Among Us 2 sometime in 2027. As for The Wolf Among Us Remastered, this is slated to release during this holiday season.
