Someone in the comments reported they can run whatsapp too.

There's a difference between expecting Xbox One or 360 games to run on Windows 10 and it's another thing to expect them to expand the Xbox Live service and features to Windows and allow for the console and PC versions of the game to both use Live and even allow for cross-platform play.

I'd love to be able to have my PC games use live and give me achievements and add to my Gamerscore.

They have got to fix the UI. We have had enough crap ever since 8 and WinRT first hit the public with "developers" just releasing utter beep that doesn't deserve to see the light of day outside Visual Studio.

I hope they allow the Store to be curated by others, similar to how Steam is doing it now.

I hope they allow the Store to be curated by others, similar to how Steam is doing it now.

Part of the issue (with ALL the stores - it's not unique to that of Windows; Steam has gotten bit by the crappy-software problem as well, and so have Google Play, Amazon, Apple's App Stores, etc.) has been Curator Review of submissions - that is regardless of whether the curators are in-house or not.  Valve brought in outside curators - however, it's not as if in-house curators couldn't do the job just as well.

That's what they're going to call it in the end, just "Settings". This will match it with how it's always been called on the phone so we have the consistency there.  This should also mean the messy settings page in WP will finally get organized into the same categories we see in the screenshots.

The only thing left is for MS to have a API so that things can be added to Settings like they can be to the control panel.  There are hints of maybe having a specific area that can hold things from the OEMs or hardware makers, we'll see how it goes.

Hence why I am NOT screaming - I get that much.

I think that the older "zPC Settings" was aimed at the OEMs (especially those that also cater to PC builders) so they could get their i's dotted and T's crossed for the new paradigm - too many OEMs ignored the old one.

Has anyone tried out Maps yet?  (This is one I'm testing for the reason that I am FOREVER being asked to track down locations (local and otherwise) to drive to (the dreaded "driving directions").  I have been relying on MapQuest and Google Maps - an offline version of either is (naturally) not available, and Microsoft Streets and Trips is dead.  Now it's available, and as a feature in Windows 10 - if it works, it is a major plus for me.  I'm starting with the five local states, plus Washington, DC and Louisiana - if those work, I'll be adding Nevada and Washington state.  (Washington state is being added because I have an aunt and cousin that live there; Nevada is because I've actually been there, and hope to return soon for a vacation - due to reconstruction of many casinos, I'd definitely be in need of updated street maps.)

Hence why I am NOT screaming - I get that much.

If it means that OEM's can standardise and get rid of all their custom updating and customising applications etc. in favour of a simple Settings entry then life will be made a lot easier for all concerned. If it means in the future you purchase a Lenovo laptop and all there is are a couple of applications installed plus a 'Lenovo' entry in the Settings dialogue then it will be a great step forward. IMHO I also think It is great they're replacing control panel with Settings so then we have one set of applications and configuration tools as to avoid the end user getting confused over which one they should use. If in the end win32 sits there in the background as a compatibility layer with all new applications are based on using WinRT and continuum (to detect mode it should present itself in) then they'll definitely finally fit in that 'fit and finish' gap that exists. I also think that part of is pragmatic - few applications, fewer lines of code to manage and lower overheads for Microsoft in the long run by simplifying their operating system. The customer wins, Microsoft wins - and we come out better off in the end.

Showing Expanded View, with Power Options open..

Notice how the user tile is rounded like on account.live.com!

Neowin: Feel free to use these images so you don't have to use the registry hack, it makes the build super unstable.

BTW I used my backup account for this build.

Something I found:

it seems to open the "Cloud Experience Host"

Well, I was asking to see if anyone could post them. :p

Also there is a new photos app:

New Photos app looks nice. Does it contain any editing features?

Yes, the Windows 8.1 editing abilities, nothing more. It does have a picasa updating library dialogue in the top right corner. Also has image properties: The button is next to the Windows 8.1 style back button when I right click,

That is gorgeous :-) It appears that Microsoft is on a rampage gradually replacing legacy (aka win32) parts of Windows with 'Modern UI' style dialogues etc. the more I see these improvements the more I'm inclined to move from OS X to Windows.

hey ians18, have you seen this on your setup?

Now the Xbox One style of Welcome Back Screen is what we need for Windows 10 on the Desktop! just make it so that it transitions smoothly from Lock screen to Xbox-One Style Welcome Back Screen to desktop and We are set!

No maybe because it's a VM? When exactly in the setup does it appear?

I do see the circle user tile though.

    • Microsoft released new Defender update for Windows 11, 10, Server ISO installations by Sayan Sen Microsoft releases new Windows Defender update packages very frequently to protect against various newly discovered malware. Once a while every three months or so, the company also pushes out these updates to Windows images (WIM and VHD) and ISOs, that are used to install Windows. Hence with the newest Windows 11 update available via the official MCT tool, you should get these definitions. This update package is necessary as a Windows installation image may contain old, outdated anti-malware definitions and software binaries. Aside from better security, these updates can also provide improved performance benefits in some cases. When a new Windows installation is set up, there may be a temporary security risk due to outdated Microsoft Defender protection in the OS installation images. This happens because the antimalware software included in these images might not be up to date. Thus Microsoft says that these updated definitions essentially help close this protection gap. Microsoft delivered the latest security definitions for Windows images via security intelligence update version 1.445.323.0. The Defender package version is also the same. It applies to Windows 11, Windows 10 ESU, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, Win 10 Ent LTSC 2019, Win 10 Ent LTSB 2016, Windows Server 2022, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016. Microsoft writes: "This package updates the anti-malware client, anti-malware engine, and signature versions in the OS installation images to following versions: Platform version: 4.18.26040.7 Engine version: 1.1.26040.8 Security intelligence version: 1.447.236.0" From Microsoft's security bulletin, we learn that the security intelligence update version 1.447.236.0 was released early last month and adds threat detections for various malware like trojan, backdoor exploits, ransomware, stealers, AutoKMS, and more. For those wondering, the latest intelligence update is version 1.451.297.0 at the time of writing.
