I think it fits with the open world nature of the game from the looks of it, they're going pretty vertical with the layouts.  Having said that though, I think the grappling hook is just one thing you might be able to equip and use if you want.  In the demo when he opens the map for a bit, and we see how big that part of the world is, there's a Upgrades tab at the top.  I think the grappling hook and other stuff, like weapons, and maybe even your armor to, will be upgradable.  This adds a little RPG bits into the now open world nature of Halo.

I guess I'm just not a fan of RPG elements in my shooters. Halo is no exception, and I fear a lot of the game will be built to show off the grappling hook if it's not swappable for other items.

I'll take anything that gives me more gameplay and not something short like 6hrs.   If going a bit open world means I get a 20hr playthrough, or more, then I'll shell out the money quick.

Windows Central has a post up talking about Halo Infinite and it's gfx etc.

Source.

Basically like other posts are saying, it's a older build from around the end of 2019, doesn't have ray tracing or other XSX bits added yet.   Guess we'll see 5 or so months from now, whenever this comes out, how it looks.  Visuals are always tweaked towards the end, and just adding ray tracing makes a big difference to games out right now.  Heck, anyone who's looked a metro exodus should check out the difference with and without ray tracing in that game alone to get a good idea.

I was going to post this.

Overall I thought the show was a bit average.

I don't know if my expectations are too high, MS isn't hitting the mark or I've just lost the "wow" factor for video games in general.

I'm still looking forward to upgrading my One S and seeing some of my existing games with 4K and HDR, but if I had  One X, I feel like there would less of a push to upgrade.

Another thing I noticed was that a few of the games didn't mention Xbox One in the titles cards. I've also seen a few articles pointing out the same. I'm interested to see what MS has to say about that given their earlier promise

Probably all of the above.  Game Pass is still the star of the show, their investments lately have been great and I can't wait to see everything, but they still love their mainline series we're all bored with.

I haven't even watched any of the stuff.  I'll probably do it eventually, but right now...meh.  I'll be more interested when the console is about to release, whenever that is.

A number of new games and reboots like Fable don't say Xbox One etc, those are, what I expect, coming in 2022, so it's after the cross-gen period MS talked about.

That just makes them XSX and PC exclusives and they shouldn't be held back by the X1 like some people talked about.

Outside of Halo, that's coming soon, nothing else mainline is coming soon.  We haven't had a new Fable in forever, and it still looks like it's a few years away.  They teased a new Forza, but that also looks like it's a few years out to.   There actually was a number of new stuff shown, at least in trailers, like Avowed.  Unless you're not into RPGs that much.

From the main show.

Halo Infinite

State of Decay 3

Forza

Everwild

Grounded

Avowed

Hellblade 2

Psychonauts 2

Fable

I mean it's not a bad 1st party start,  3 new IPs, 1 old IP that's getting a reboot, and 4 sequels.  And there's still a number of studios that haven't shown what they're working on so who knows?  That's 9 titles and they've got 15 studios, so I expect more to drop over the coming months.

I'm into everything Obsidian is doing right now (and a lot of their older games.)  Pillars of Eternity was a little weird but I still liked it.  Just didn't get into that series.

I hope they end up doing another Alpha Protocol...it's been long enough I'm not expecting anything, but heh.

Avowed, from what I read, sounds like it takes place in the Pillars of Eternity world.  I'd have to double check that one.

I liked Outer Worlds though I think it felt short, probably because of the situation they were in at the time, money wise.  I think now with the MS deep pockets they can really go all out, should be very interesting to see.

Yeah, but it's not the weird 2D style and they have a much larger budget so I'm pretty sure I'll dig it.

Yep, I know personally I'm becoming much pickier with what I play. I've gone from buying 5+ release day games to 1 (may be 2) games a year. My backlog plus Gamepass is keeping me very entertained.

As I said it's just me becoming fussier. I don't get showing games that are years out, show me more of what I'm going to be playing day 1.

I get that MS want to drip feed and keep the hype going with Xbox, but they should have stuck with a single show to show off everything Xbox related instead of doing multiple shows. It feels like some of the stuff they're showing is just filler. Both shows, despite how poor I thought Sony's show was, have left a lot of people thinking meh.

If they had a single big show to replace E3, show the heavy hitters from third parties, show the stuff that's releasing this year from their first parties and finish with showing off Lockhart and opening pre-orders for XSX.

I agree with you on showing games coming, but MS would do that last few years of the X1 and still got flack for it.  While on the flip side, Sony would show you the same games for 2-3 years till they're released, which made their last 2 E3s boring af IMO.  Probably why they decided to not do E3 anymore.

I figure at this point since critics keep harping on MS about 1st party exclusives, even if they're not coming soon, they figured they'd get the word out that they've got them in the works right now.   I still figure we're going to see more later, a number of their studios still haven't said what they're working on.

So just following on from this headline last night - https://www.neowin.net/news/halo-infinite-has-been-delayed-until-2021

I'm disappointed and at the same time understand why MS/343 decided to delay.

I feel like this will hurt the launch of Xbox Series X, I feel like Halo may have been the game that pushed people to get a Series X. I can't remember what the launch line up looks like but I don't think there's anything new that will push folk to get a Series X.

Or is that just me?

It might hurt but at the same time if they push the compatibility angle and free Series X updates to games you own, it could still win over early buyers.  I think Halo Infinite is the only delay, any other games on track for that time should still be coming.  We'll see how it goes, and how long the delay for Halo actually is.  Maybe it's Feb 2021?  It could be July 2021?

I still expect MS has a few games they haven't talked about that are coming in Nov or right after, we'll see if they say anything later this month or Sept, we still need info on Series S.

I was never buying it for Halo.  I was buying it for my existing collection and updates to those games and upcoming titles working much better.

I'm still playing far too much Destiny 2, and would love to play The Outer Worlds again on there for starters.  Gears 5 definitely feels like it needs a better machine.  We've still got three months and I expect we'll know more about launch upgrades and games in late September.

I still have a gut feeling that we're going to get a little news drop this month and another sometime in Sept.     The leaked white controllers have stickers saying do not display before November 6th, looking like that's the release date.

Pretty much this, I don't care too much about any of the new titles, I'd rather what I'm playing now runs better, faster load times etc. I don't even care about more things being in "4K" that much.

Halo, Fable etc are just nice to haves so them being delayed or not available at launch doesn't mean a huge amount to me.

I'll potentially give Destiny 2 another try once all the DLCs after Warmind drop as part of game pass too.

This isn't specifically about the hardware but I thought it interesting since it's about Halo Infinite.  Worth a read IMO.

If it's coming later in 2021 that could be possible.  And if true the choice to do so would be to push the visuals to as high as they can on XSX for what's more or less they're flagship series.  I understand the thinking behind it.  Sucks for XO owners but we're talking a year from now, maybe, not in a few months.  Enough time to get a XSX.

    • BATorrent 3.0.2 by Razvan Serea BATorrent is a lightweight, open-source BitTorrent client built with modern C++ and Qt 6, offering a clean, fast, and privacy-focused alternative to traditional torrent apps. It supports magnet links, .torrent files, resume data, sequential downloading, per-file priorities, and even imports from qBittorrent. Power users benefit from integrated RSS auto-download with regex filtering, duplicate detection, and automatic tracker lists from Stremio. Streaming is seamless thanks to auto-detected players like VLC and IINA. BATorrent includes robust VPN tools—interface binding, auto-detection for WireGuard-based services like Mullvad and NordLynx, kill switch, proxy support, and IP filtering. A full WebUI enables remote control, while integrations with Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby automate library updates. With themes, speed scheduling, system-tray alerts, and cross-platform support for Windows, Linux, and macOS, BATorrent delivers a polished, high-performance torrenting experience. BATorrent features: Core .torrent file and magnet link support Resume data — picks up where you left off after restart Import torrents from qBittorrent Create .torrent files from any file or folder Sequential download mode Per-file priority control (skip, low, normal, high) Seed ratio limits with auto-pause DHT, PEX, UPnP, NAT-PMP RSS Auto-Download Subscribe to RSS feeds — automatically download new torrents as they appear Regex filters — match only what you want (e.g. 1080p|720p, S01E\d+) Per-feed settings — custom save path, check interval (5–1440 min), enable/disable Auto-download — matched items are downloaded automatically in the background Supports magnet links, .torrent URLs, and tags Tray notifications when items are auto-downloaded Duplicate detection — never downloads the same item twice Stremio Stremio Addon System pre-installed — works out of the box Auto tracker list from ngosang/trackerslist Streaming Play while downloading — stream video files before the download is complete Supports mp4, mkv, avi, mov, wmv, flv, webm, m4v, ts Auto-detects installed players (VLC, IINA, system default) VPN & Privacy Interface binding — lock torrent traffic to a specific network interface (e.g. tun0) Auto VPN detection — identifies VPN interfaces (tun, tap, WireGuard, Mullvad, NordLynx, ProtonVPN) Kill switch — automatically pauses all torrents if the VPN interface drops Auto-resume — resumes only the torrents paused by the kill switch when VPN reconnects Proxy support — SOCKS5 and HTTP proxy with optional authentication IP filtering — load P2P blocklists to block unwanted IP ranges Protocol encryption (enabled / forced / disabled) WebUI Remote management — control torrents from any browser at http://localhost:8080 REST API with JSON responses Add torrents via magnet link or .torrent upload Pause, resume, remove torrents remotely View peers and files per torrent Dark theme matching the desktop app HTTP Basic Auth with SHA-256 password hashing Configurable port and remote access (localhost vs 0.0.0.0) Interface 3 themes: Dark, Light, Midnight (bat/vampire aesthetic) Real-time speed graph Detailed panel with tabs: General, Peers, Files, Trackers Filter bar: search by name, filter by state (Active, Downloading, Seeding, Paused, Finished) Drag & drop .torrent files and magnet links Drag & drop reorder in torrent list System tray with notifications (download complete, kill switch events, RSS auto-downloads) Splash screen with bat animation Bilingual: English and Portuguese (BR), auto-detected from system locale Bandwidth Scheduler Alternative speed limits — set different download/upload limits on a schedule Time range — configure active hours (e.g. 01:00 to 07:00), supports overnight ranges Per-day control — choose which days of the week the schedule applies Automatically switches between normal and alternative speeds Media Server Integration Plex — automatically trigger library scan when a download completes Jellyfin / Emby — same automatic library refresh via API Configure server URL and authentication token/key in Settings System Cross-platform: Windows, Linux, macOS Auto-shutdown — automatically shut down PC when all downloads complete (60s cancellable countdown) Auto-update system (AppImage on Linux, installer on Windows, DMG on macOS) CLI arguments: pass .torrent files or magnet: URIs directly Keyboard shortcuts: Space to toggle pause, Ctrl+A to select all, Ctrl+O to open BATorrent 3.0.2 changelog: Phone pairing & WebUI The browser WebUI was reskinned to match the desktop app — same dark palette, Inter font, flat surfaces, the real BATorrent logo (it was a random bat before), and a proper magnet icon. It now looks like the same product, not a separate dashboard. Pairing is one tap and zero typing: the generated WebUI password is now copyable, and the QR code carries the credentials — scanning it from your phone logs straight in (no typing the IP or password), then drops the credentials from the address bar. Search Two new providers: RuTor (CIS sources, no login, via a public TorAPI relay) and Torrents-CSV. Results are sorted by seeders (healthiest first), and each search now times out after 15 s so one dead provider can't hang the UI. Files & trackers Per-file priority is back: right-click a file in the detail panel to set Skip / Low / Normal / High. Rename an individual file inside a torrent (double-click or the file menu), separate from renaming the torrent. Remove a tracker from a torrent (the ✕ on a tracker row); adding was already there. Smart Paste on Ctrl+V — paste a magnet, a 40-char info-hash, or a .torrent URL straight from the clipboard and it's added immediately (text fields still paste text normally). Covers & titles Anime fansub naming ([Group] Title - NN) now resolves to the right show. Audio channel layouts in titles (DDP5.1, 7.1, …) are stripped so they don't pollute cover matching. Under the hood The legacy QWidget interface is gone. QML had been the only UI since 3.0.0 (reachable old code lived behind a hidden --legacy flag); with parity confirmed, the entire QWidget layer — main window, every dialog, the theme manager — was removed (~13,400 lines). The four restored actions above were features that backend already supported but the QML port had never wired. macOS: the WebUI password hash moved out of the keychain into app settings, so launching the app no longer pops a login-keychain password prompt on unsigned builds. The actual password still lives in the keychain. Cleanup: ~400 orphaned translation strings and a batch of dead code removed; internal duplication collapsed; an ARCHITECTURE.md added for contributors. Unit / security / memory tests and the ASan/UBSan/TSan sanitizers stay green.
