P4 1.8GHz or AMD Athlon XP And Why?

Recommended Posts

actually I wish you'd say much less :)

and I enjoy acting like a 'biatch' because it humors me to get people like you all uptight. It's amazing what text can do to the eye, stimulating such utter remarks!

Anyhow, 2.8 GHz OC'ed power here.. enjoy yourself ladies, HeHe, I'm off for some high speed fraggin'..

come one people.. if ur AMD overheats with STOCK stuff u have no idea how to build a system.. this is coming from a 14 yr old

i have built many computers and all of them AMDs and none of them have heating problems

maybe its because thier lian li pc7 cases but even then

only my system has different then stock cooling.. its got that Thermal take Premium compund on it.. but then agian its a dual so thats why

all my systems are under 45 degrees celsius..

I love it.

Here's my thinking. irdawood, you state your processor runs at 38C. But yet you have how many fans? P4 will run normal with the one fan...whereas you have to use so many fans. The cost difference (which isn't much in the first place) is easily made up in electric costs. Man thats got to be a loud computer. I don't have an airport in my backyard, and I don't want the sound of one in my apartment.

And something else....Intel has money, AMD doesn't. Lets think about this logically....Lets say AMD makes the best processor. Lets also say its the cheapest processor to make. Wouldn't it be smart for Intel and Cyrix to build similar chips? Cyrix to a lesser point since they aren't as big a company. But Intel has all this extra money in the bank....billions. You'd think if AMD really made the better chip (better quality, faster, etc) Intel would use some of its billions to do more research....to "catch up" to the AthlonXP Logic would state this.

History would prove this logic as being true. Xerox comes out with a gui OS. Apple buys it, then MS copies it. Car makers are the same...one company invents safety devices, or a cleaner engine, a different company will want to do the same.

You may ask "if intel makes a better processor like you say, amd would want to make one more like the P4". Well they can't...cause they don't have the money or resources to switch to a totally different chip. Whereas, Intel has the money. They have the better research department....they know chips better....have more experience. Now you tell me....why would a company with the chip making pride and background they do, let a little company like AMD make better processors? They have the money...if AMD really did make better processors, they would use that money and migrate toward something similar. But yet they don't......hmmm I wonder why....

Here's my thoughts on why...( i realize you amd fans will mock these...but the truth hurts sometimes)

1) the main diffences between p4 and athlonxp are power consumption and heat. as long as athlonxp suffers from this, they will never be a good consumer chip

2)athlonxp is cheaply made...why else do you think amd can keep selling the chips at the price they are

3)current architecture amd uses has no future..can't even reach 2.0ghz, whereas the p4 northwood currently works fine at 3ghz

4)amd doesn't have a good quality chipset....nforce is expensive and already out of date.

Who buys AMD processors? obviously those who think benchmarks mean the world

Who buys intel? everyone else

Who buys Apple? people who want the fastest and most powerful

Price means quality people. Higher price almost always means better quality. Very rarely is it the opposite. And in this case, it holds true.

Just to clear up one thing from an ignorant post earlier. ALL Celeron's 1.2 and faster use the .13 micron process. They are Tualatin core chips.

http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/02q1/0201...0103/index.html

Now, Tom is AMD's butt-buddy so he has little good to say here, but even he calls it a Tualatin.

Why is it that every AMD box I see sounds like a vacuum cleaner??

Wake up AMD. Smaller process = less current = less heat = greater efficiency.

When Intel hits 4GHz next summer and AMD is trying desparately to soak one more iteration out of their outdated technology . . . I guess we'll see who has the last laugh.

I have to agree there are very good points here. $$$ = quality ;). And as for vraa u say u build AMD comps with stock HSF and keep em under 45 C? BULL ****! Theres no way it can be done. The HSF that comes with em is **** and the fan is also crap. Try to tell us another BS Story. And vraa is ur typical 14 year old. A stupid ****!

Very good points I might say.

You Intel fan boys haven't said anything that you didn't say yesterday and the day before. You guys still haven't proven anything with facts. You guys just keep going over the same stuff over and over.

Intel fan boy point no. 1 - All of the benchmarks are untrue. All of the testers are liars. If they're not liars then the benchmarks don't prove anything. So what if the AMD is a couple of seconds faster.

I'm not going to buy a more expensive computer without some sort of factual proof that it is going to be a better computer. That's why the benchmarks and reviews are important. Seconds do count. If someone using a computer for video rendering it can take several minutes per frame. There are 30 frames per second. These renderings can take days. A slightly faster processor can shave hours off. That's money saved.

Intel fan boy point no. 2 - Heat problems/High electric bills.

Athlons do not have heat problems. If you can't put together a computer right then go to the store and buy a prebuilt computer. My electric bill isn't high. You guys are just making stuff up.

Intel fan boy point no. 3 - AMD chipsets are buggy.

Where did this come from? You guys made this up too. I've used ALi, and VIA based mobos from ASUS and I haven't had any trouble with them.

LOL AMD chips DO have heat probs and are unstable with some chipsets. And yes i do know how to build a computer as i have been doing it for 7 years. So don't tell me i don't know how because i probably know more than u AMD fans ever will :p

You Intel boys can't come up with any facts so your main arguement now is that AMD fans are just stupid. LMAO

I've been building computers just as long as you have Chris123NT. I'm not a teenager. I don't have a 56k dial up connection. And I don't need any pimple cream.

ExplorerPatcher 26100.8457.70.3 changelog: Tested on OS builds 22621.4317, 22631.7079, 26100.6899, 26100.8037, 26200.8246, 26200.8457, 26300.8493, and 28000.2113. TIP: Windows Defender no longer flags ExplorerPatcher. It is no longer needed to configure Defender exclusions. Enjoy! Important Update for Windows Insider Users If you're running Windows 11 Beta build 26220.8474 or Experimental build 26300.8493, updating ExplorerPatcher is highly recommended. Microsoft has removed parts of the old Windows 10 Start menu from these builds, which caused ExplorerPatcher's Windows 10-style taskbar and Start menu to crash. This update fixes those issues and ensures Explorer starts correctly after future Windows updates. Because the required components are no longer included in Windows, the Windows 10 Start menu option has been disabled on these builds and future builds that lack the necessary files. A temporary workaround is to replace StartTileData.dll with a version from build 26xxx.8457, but this solution may stop working in future releases. The good news: development on the Windows 10 Start menu isn't over yet. More updates are planned. Highlights Fixed crashes affecting the Windows 10 battery flyout on Windows builds 25951 and newer. As part of that fix, network flyout buttons now behave like they did before Windows 11 version 24H2. Changes to the Primary taskbar location on screen setting now apply instantly without requiring a restart. ExplorerPatcher no longer modifies Windows 11 taskbar auto-hide settings when Explorer starts. The Open Start in All apps by default option is now hidden when the new Windows 11 Start menu is enabled. Fixed Windows 10 Start menu crashes on very early Windows 11 builds (21996–22000.51). Fixed a crash in Registry Editor when switching to thumbnail view during registry import/export operations. Improved compatibility with recent Windows builds, especially ARM64 and upcoming 26H1 releases. Improved overall ARM64 performance. Added Greek language translations. Thanks to @KonVetsos! ep_taskbar Improvements ep_taskbar now supports all 43 Windows 11 display languages. Fixed several issues in the system tray and other taskbar components. For mod developers: DLL naming has been simplified and made easier to understand. For mod developers: internal TrayUI changes provide better stability across Windows builds that use different taskbar implementations. Windows 10 Start Menu Improvements To help preserve compatibility, ExplorerPatcher now includes a newly recreated version of the tile layout engine that Microsoft removed in build 26xxx.8474. Current limitations: Tiles may occasionally overlap when pinned in certain ways. Restarting StartMenuExperienceHost.exe or Explorer usually corrects the layout. Further improvements are planned. Additional Fixes Added a blacklist that prevents ExplorerPatcher's shell extension from loading inside specific applications where it may cause problems. Updated Windows 10 Start menu animation support for newer ARM64 Insider builds. Fixed a rare taskbar initialization deadlock that could occur during startup. Start10 Updates Addressed a new compatibility issue caused by Microsoft's ongoing removal of tablet mode code in Windows 11 25H2 Experimental builds. Pinned tiles are no longer reset after repeated crashes. Various wording and interface text improvements throughout the application. Translation and UI Several interface strings have been cleaned up and clarified. Thanks to @sefinek for wording improvements. Please consult the README for more details.
