P4 1.8GHz or AMD Athlon XP And Why?

Recommended Posts

AMD as expensive as a p4????????????

I DONT THINK SO

AMD CPU 2000XP = ?236 + Thermal take Dragon Orb 3 (best fan ever made)= ?20

Total price od AMD unit= ?256

Intel INTEL PENTIUM 4 2000-N/WOOD -SKT478 CPU = ?323

THE INTEL IS A LOT LOT MORE EXPENSIVE!!!!

and even if AMD was more expensive to some of the intel CPU's i would still buy AMD as AMD XP CPI's is a better CPU then that of the INTEL

your missing what it is that I'm trying to say here though...

If you decide to go AMD your really gettin beat up when you start looking for a *good* mobo, like I said the cheapest you can get an AMD chipset is going to be $130. With the Intel processors you can pretty much get a *good* mobo for around $70-85.

After everything is bought it all totals up to be right around the same price range.

All of my Athlons are running the stock HS/fan and none of them have burned up. They all run just fine.

The quotes I gathered when I was preparing my recomendations for my company's capital budget for 2002 showed the Pentium 4 to be $400 more expensive. I know that a HS/fan doesn't sell for $400.

you gotto understand

AMD = much better then INTEL no matter what u guys do

Why cant u guys face it?????

a 1.6ghz amd kick the **** out of a 1.6 Intel

now they are gonna say that ALL Benchmarks in the world are crap...oh and apart from that one on the intel site

AMD is not more expensive then Intel so it dont matter but AMD are sooo much better you guys are just talking crap and out your arses

how can u even contemplate on comparing a 1.6ghz AMD with an Intel

when a 1.6 AMD is on Par with your top 2.2Ghz Northwood

just making u guys face it

thats all

if intel was a better product then i would buy intel but it isnt its pure crap

and its for people who dont have a clue about computers coz if they did, like all the good reveiwers eg (Toms harware, Overclockers.co.uk) they would own an AMD

Intel is for newbies

also AMD is a lot more fun to mod

if u want serious modding take a look at my AMD system

when you face it that they're low budget processors and you're not going to persuade 90% of the people on this board to choose quality over program results so just stop your kissing up to AMD's ass.

just like you're not going to get people at slashdot to stop kissing linux's ass it's a lost cause.

everybody at some point was praising and/or kissing intels ass because they revolutionized processors and im pretty sure the fan boys would probably even choose the cheap cyrix cpus over the intel ones just for the fact that they're brainwashed to believe intel is evil just like microsoft is.

the fact of the matter is they care a lot more about customers than AMD does im pretty sure the research and time it takes to create intel processors far exceeds the cheap **** AMD did to create their processors which is why they sell for less.

just give it a break already

a company that cant even admit they cant reach the 2ghz barrier and come out with lame numbering strategies to make people believe it is equivalent is pathetic.

intel could have went the same way as amd in how their processors were designed but obviously they didnt for good reason.

**** happens.

you cant sit there and say you wont ever have fan failure or somethin goes wrong that causes your praised and worshipped poorly designed and put togehter amd processor to just overheat and smoke because then you arent living in the real world cause anything is possible

when you have so much market share and companies relying on your processors to work effeciently you dont have time to play school yard games like AMD does and name your processors different to keep up in the world when it is obvious you just cant make 2ghz yet. you need to have a reliable processor that wont fry in any situation not just bank off the fact that hey its very unlikely that somethin like this will happen but hey if it does we biuld our processors so cheap and use child labor to do it you can just buy another one. every one of their processors are crap and they move up odd numbers you go from 1.3 ghz to 1.53 OH WOW what a big improvement..its the only speed improvement their cheap technicians could figure out so thats what you're stuck with.

wow man nice system

now you can just replace the heating system in a high school with your computer and everybody will be satisfied

look at how many fans you have on that thing? lol

i bet your computer is like a mini power plant just eating electricity out of its ass.

from those pics i'd say around 40% of your case is nothing but fans.

can you watch tv with your computer on or do you have to turn the volume on full blast to hear anything?

it must be a bitch trying to listen to mp3s when you hear a 747 jet in the background

OMG how can u say all that crap!!!!???????

first of all i have never ever used linux i have always used MS i even was invited to the Microsoft Launch In london (and went)

90% of this board do not like intel read the previous posts not 90% thats for sure

ffair enough but for a cpu that goes 1.67ghz and stays on par with a intel 2.2Ghz CPu.... well thats saying something

goes to show AMD dont even need to be on the same speed as Intel and yet it gets higher fps on games and higer benchmarks!!!

as for my case well i can afford electricity so i dont worry about my bill as some people (yourself) do

if u take a look at the case u will see that the fans are near the pci slots keeping and venting GPU cards

and by the way the CPU can be majorly overclocked with a bit of Motherboard modding (explaining the other fans) kicks your Intel northwood any day

Celerons are for people who like Vegetables.

Pentiums are for people who enjoy decent speed.

Athons are for people who enjoy RAW speed.

Pentium 4's are for those who like to spend and extra 100 bucks to run as fast as the Athlons.

:D Just adding Gas to the fire...

yeah well i live in the US where we need to save power not take advantage of it with a minor increase in speed say 2 seconds

like i said earlier

its not hard to copy amd's processor technology but who would want to?

intel could have done it just as well if not better than amd is with all the money they've already got but it must have been a reason why they didnt go that route. so just keep that in mind that anybody that wants to build a processor can build it on the idea just to beat intel out rather than make a quality processor

i'd see why the pci/agp cards need cooling to accomodate for all the heat that processor sends out

and once again dont rely on benchmarks because that is AGAIN the only defense amd fans have to back their cool processors up

you're not going to sit there with computers side by side then play the hey lets open up outlook express and see which one goes faster game!

so what if the benchmarks say its faster in quake 3?

with any processor over 1.5 ghz hell even 1.0 ghz it wont matter

the processor is more than capable of handling it so long as you have a good graphics card to accompany it

what're you gonna do sit there and be like yeahhhhhhh man i get more fps in quake than you do!! while you're playing against the person who wont care as long as the game just works properly?

whats the worst it could lag behind

and again who cares

what an extra 2 minutes at the MOST compared to an extra $4545456 dollars on your electirc bill followed by a computer so loud that you cant sleep at night powered exclusively by an AMD processor that when you wake up 1 of two things might happen

1. your smoke detector might be already going off

2. your computer will be damaged then all the time you put into rendering your movie will be wasted when you could have just wasted an extra 40 seconds

time may be money but we're talking seconds here not hours or days

    • well you can add a GPU for around $500, that's still around the price of Steam Machine but overall significantly better in performance.
