Windows XP Service Pack 2 Technical Preview

Recommended Posts

I havent been able to get Norton Anti-Virus to work in the Security and ive submitted a bug report btw anyone know wats happend to the media button in Internet Explorer.

you can no longer use mediabar to view media in IE, this is a security workaround, you must use media player standalone to view online media or through the site itself if they set it up for streaming

Hmm, i had SP1a installed, and just installed this release of SP2, and for some reason or another my ICF wont load. It says "Due to an unindentifed problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall Settings"

I made sure the service was enabled in the admin section, anyone have any ideas?

not running any A/V or 3rd party firewall software either.

i always thought it was removed because of antitrust reasons. thanks for the heads up.

If it were me, the public wouldn't have access to anything but the "gold" version of XP SP2

I've already read a few dozen posts on some uunet posts from people wanting help in fixing

their computers because SP2 RC1 screwed up their computers.

If you don't understand how to install, uninstall or repair your computer, you shouldn't be

allowed to install it.

More specifically, I've seen posts like this: "I just installed SP2 RC1 on my primary hard

drive and it wacked out my computer.........help!"

LOL

:alien:

Well, all working fine for me, fast too. Some minor niggles though, firefox throws up a memory error when it tries to load anything from it's history or cache (not aproblem, ill prob go back to IE now heh) and windows update dont work (loads but cant acces updates)

other than that and the fact tthat the firewall settings dont show its all cool

collection of screenies

http://www.fixit-4u.net/mrk/root/temp/sp2/

stable so far too, no probs using anything (overclocked 210MHz on cpu too so time will tell, SP1 wa sup for 2 weeks and 1 day before restarting for SP2 so lets see how stable it is :p

I know the risks of running beta software i was just wondering if SP2 RC2 will be accessible to the public the only issue i have with RC1 is that the security Center doesnt report my Virus Status Correctly (i'm running Norton Anti-Virus 2004) and the Security Center tells me to check Status and i do and everythings fine

In fact im finding SP2 RC1 a lot more stable than SP1 seems they fixed the slow down bug

Can anyone help me please.....

I have been trying to download this for 2 days now. Every time I attempt to download I get a certian way through the download and it fails on me.

So far I have tried downloading with :

GetRight - Failed 53% (server just wont respond)

GetRight - Failed 60% (same problem)

Firebird - Failed 51% (Firebird reported it as "Download Complete" but it got half way)

Getright - Failed 92% (6 minutes remaining)

It seems to get to a certian level, and then thats it, it no longer downloads any more, no matter how many times I click "Resume". I've literally left it on for hours at a time and it does absolutley nothing.

I'd be happy to blame it on busy servers, but honestly, why would it just get to a certian level and completely stop? Also why is it that I can start it downloading in another download window while my GetRight window is still open. If the server is busy why would it let me start another download, and it will send the new download window data, while it does nothing with the original download?

So I'll ask again... are there any mirrors for SP2, or are there any site that are likely to mirror the file. Thanks.

EDIT: Changing my IP address (then signing in) does not work. This is driving me mad, if anyone knows any mirrors I would appreciate SO SO SO SO SO SO much.

    • Here is the new Surface Laptop Ultra wallpaper in high resolution by Taras Buria Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra, its brand-new high-end laptop powered by NVIDIA's brand-new RTX Spark processor. As usual, Microsoft gives each new device a unique wallpaper, and the Surface Laptop Ultra is no exception. While the device is not publicly available yet, somebody has already extracted its wallpaper, giving everyone a chance to get a piece of the upcoming laptop in its full-resolution glory. The Surface Laptop Ultra has a very dark, abstract wallpaper that resembles the stock wallpapers in Windows Server, albeit with much less color. Having this dark, grim wallpaper highlights the laptop's mini-LED display and its ability to cut off parts of the screen's backlight to achieve OLED-like black levels. However, if you also like light wallpapers, we made a white version by simply inverting its colors. You can download both wallpapers below (click the image, right-click it, and select "Save as"): The Surface Laptop Ultra is expected to launch later this year. Microsoft is not revealing full details yet, including the price. However, Microsoft confirmed up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and RTX 5070-level of GPU performance. The heart of the laptop has up to 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU cores. Additionally, Microsoft and NVIDIA boast high CPU efficiency for all-day battery life. As for the display, it is a 15-inch mini-LED display with a pixel density of 262 ppi and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits. Of course, not everyone needs this amount of power, and certainly not everyone can afford it. For those who need a more affordable device, Microsoft is also preparing the next-generation Surface Pro powered by the Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. Weeks ahead of the announcement, details about this computer were leaked by a retailer. Do you like the Surface Laptop Ultra's stock wallpaper? Share your thoughts in the comments. • From all that I've read on the subject--not that much, really--it looks to me like companies and parents are trying to protect themselves from children using their parents accounts to run up giant bills, sometimes in the thousands of dollars, and the first the parents know about it is when they get sued... Internet companies have been sued for tailoring their ads to children, which is kind of old news. My belief is that policing starts at home with the parents, and the reason that so many laws that can't be enforced are being passed is because parents are eschewing their responsibilities, claiming not enough time, not enough knowledge, etc. Giving kids cell phones sans Internet connectivity is a good place to start--confine Internet activity to PCs in the home that the parents regulate. My kids are all grown and gone, I'm happy to say... They have their own kids to worry about.

    • BTW DXVK is also available on Windows and offers similar benefits like on Linux when it comes to performance, at least in some titles. The Raceroom racing sim for example even offers DXVK as one of its officially supported options and it can achieve ridiculous improvements in certain situations, like quite literally doubling (or more) the framerates
