WOOP!

The Dell 2001FP is now being offered by 'EricBunny' on Ebay for ?599 with a gurantee of no dead pixels, as all are checked prior to shipping by a third party and a repalcement will be issused free of charge if any should slip through the net so to speak.

Definately going to order one now:))

Ive had 4 of these replaced by Dell so far, ALL of them have had dead pixels and bad backlights.

When playing games you notice the dead pixels the most, especially when they are on black and i bought this monitor for gaming. When you pay ?500 for a monitor you expect it to be perfect. Ill be calling them again for number 5 at the end of the week, havnt had time to call them yet with exams:((

Not impressed with Dell's quality control AT ALL but the monitors are superb in every other respect.

Yeah Daz, I'm well chuffed about that :)

Any idea mate if the optional 'Soundbar' is worth getting for ?20 ? I know it won't be as good as a pair of decent PC speakers I was just wondering if it looked aesthetically pleasing and also could double to hide some of the power cables that I notice trail down from the underside of the monitor.

You can hide the cables by using some tape if you wanted, ive managed to get most of the cables hidden away anyway with strategic wrapping on the cable tidy thing on the back, personally i dont like the look of the soundbar, it detracts from one of the monitors main asthetic features.... the thin bezel.

The only reason id have one is if i didnt have any space for desktop speakers :D

I have an issue with mine, where it will not recognize or distort the image when first booted. It appears to be an issue with the DVI, and I also read somewhere that there is a fix for it, but I have been unable to locate this fix. Can anybody shed light on this? Usually switching modes will quickly correct it or just waiting a few mins, Dell technicians were a joke, and language barrier stymied any hope of a resolution :(

QUESTION: 1 20" or 2 17" Dells?

I have enough money in my budget for 1 DEll 2001FP or 2 Dell 1703(?) 17" LCDs [already have a dual display card] - don't know which option to go with [yes, dual 20's would be a dream but don't have budget and take up all my deskspace, LOL).

Curious to hear peoples opinion, especially if they have experience working on dual 17"s (or even 15's) in comparison to working on 1 20" (or even 19") LCD.

My uses will be Word, Excel (Business Plans and financial models), Adobe Photoshop and Video Editing (going to get Premiere). Yeah, some games but not a priority.

Working on those babies in a dual setup is absolutely amazing! I would never switch back.

Altus,

The arm's you have your speakers on.. are they a default peice from Ikea?

I bought same desk the other day but didn't see any peice's like you have your speakers on.. only a bigger shelf..

I don't know a whole lot about LCDs so pardon these basic questions...

Dell lists this monitor's refresh rate at 1600x1200 to be 60Hz. On a CRT this is a headache waiting to happen. I assume that LCDs have different sweet spot when it comes to refresh ranges, for CRTs this is about 85Hz, what is it for LCDs?

Also, I know that LCDs used to (maybe still do?) have a native resolution. Is this still true? I can't imagine running my desktop at a resolution lower than 1600x1200 (I'm spoiled), but when gaming I would probably run at 1280x1024 for performance reasons. Does this monitor still look nice at a resolution lower than 1600x1200?

Other than the slight ghosting effect mentioned in Call of Duty that was barely noticeable, are there any issues with gaming? Running at lower resolutions, using AA/AF ? Can this monitor truely replace a CRT and perform at least comporable to a CRT when it comes to games?

Thanks for the info guys.

LCD's don't really have a refresh rate of sorts, since once a pixel is on, it's on. 60Hz is correct and is the way it should be.

Yes, LCD's have a native resolution. However, all newer LCD's do a pretty good job of scaling down (or up) other resolutions. 1280x1024 will still look really good on a 1600x1200 LCD.

I have three 17" LCD's (see pics in sig) and I notice no issues whatsoever when gaming.

Running at non native whilst in desktop mode isn't recommended, I can't handle it. During games it's ok. But I have to say I barely play games at all :s As for the refresh rate, there is no refresh rate as such on LCDs, there's no flicker or whatever because like dougkinzinger said, a pixel is either on of off.

Excuse me whilst 2 of the images are just text, someone thought it was funny to hotlink my images in an eBay auction so I've changed them :D ######

    • Alien Isolation 2 will bring a new protagonist and setting, watch the reveal trailer here by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Only a few weeks ago, Sega and Creative Assembly dropped a teaser for a new Alien Isolation. Today at Summer Game Fest, Alien: Isolation 2 was officially announced with a new trailer while also confirming a whole lot of information about the setting of this survival horror project. Check out the reveal trailer above. Leaving behind the Sevastopol space station, the sequel will take players to a remote colony world. With a Xenomorph (or more) on the loose, players will be navigating both the surface of the weather-ravaged planet as well as "the claustrophobic confines of the Weyland-Yutani outpost of Kurosaki Station." Interestingly, Creative Assembly is leaving behind Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien's Ellen Ripley, as the protagonist too. While it hasn't confirmed a name yet, players will be taking the role of a new character for this new adventure. The setting is also being described as a new hunting ground for the Alien. This will have players improvising and developing new tools to aid in their survival and escape, all to avoid "cinema’s deadliest killer." "It has been over a decade since we created the original Alien: Isolation and I am so excited to show everyone the first glimpse of the sequel," says Al Hope, Creative Director at Creative Assembly. "Our dedicated Survival team at Creative Assembly has been working hard to create a new, evolved Isolation experience continuing the legacy of the Alien franchise, making the eponymous killer smarter, the environment harsher and the chance of survival slimmer." Promising the same deadly tension from the original from over a decade ago, Alien: Isolation 2 is in development for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced yet.

    • Hello, From looking at the screen shots in your motherboard's manual at https://endownload.colorful.cn/EnDownload/MotherBroard/2022/Intel 600/Manual/Intel 600 Series BIOS English/Intel 600 Series BIOS User Guide.pdf, you go to the ADVANCED option at the top of the BIOS (UEFI) menu, then select SECURITY in the list of options on the left.  From there  you can enable and set the Secure Boot mode.
