I have a core 2 duo system with an 8800gt, but honestly I think this is going to be my last desktop system, and that after it goes obsolete in a few years I'm going to get rid of my computer desk for good, and just game on consoles and go to laptops for computer use exclusively.

The price of video cards, new hardware, the space the desktop system takes up, just to play the latest games like crysis is becoming less worth it as time goes by. Don't get me wrong, I could never get by without the internet, but I could get by without a desktop system. This will surely become true when the next generation of consoles comes closer to being launched in a few years.. eventually consoles should have pretty much full PC functionality included because it will require so little additional cost and processing power to do so.

The desktop is going to go the way of the dinosaur.. it can't compete with consoles and laptops except for people who have money to burn and want the latest and greatest, but I'd rather retire a few months earlier and save my money.

+1

i just upgraded to the top-of-the-line, latest hardware and this will most likely be my last time upgrading my pc

it cost way too much money and i don't really get anything out of it. i enjoy console games way more than my pc games nowdays

I remember the first game I ever played was Catacombs for DOS on my uncle's laptop. I also played and loved my friend's NES. In highschool I would always go to my friend's place to play Streetfighter 3 Alpha, Marvel VS Capcom, Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy VII, Pocket Fighter and a little known gem called Bust-A-Move (dance sim, not the bubble-bobble game of the same name).

The first gaming system I ever owned was my PC. The first console I ever owned was the PS2, and that was only bought last year (yupp). I've been a PC gamer for the longest time and I finally bought a PS3 last week.

Yes, the PC is a better gaming platform for graphics, but it costs so much more to keep upgrading it so you can play the latest games. With the PS3, you're guaranteed awesome looking games for the next 5 years. I bought my laptop (nVidia GeForce Go 6800) almost 2 years ago and it's already struggling to play TF2 (i have to turn down all settings and use a smaller resolution to get a decent framerate). I don't plan to buy another gaming computer for at least 2 years.

I'll continue to play TF2 and WoW on my PC, but most of my gaming will be on my PS3.

I dont have anymore consoles because of the fact that you have to buy one after a new one comes out and the fact that you spent over 2000 in a console like the console itself + controllers + games + accessories.

I just stick to upgrading my pc now. Im use to playing Low on my old computer. But after I got a video card for it I played medium for all games and that was my only thing. I never change the resolution for any game. I have never bothered to look at it, but after building my new system with a new lcd, I have seen numerous people point out resolutions and etc.... So I decided to check mine, and most games run on 800*600 and Crysis seems the only game to run @ 1024*768.

Anyway, I have never minded it. Although getting a new graphic card for my old eMachnies was the best thing I ever did. Played most games on Low, a few on medium. But yeah, after getting this new Rig, I love it. Playing all games on medium including Crysis.

I am fine with it, and after a few years I plan to upgrade. I think personally, spending $2000k at most to upgrade for 1-3 yaer life span is better then spending $2000k or even more on a console and etc.

I know many people that have had PS1's with a LIBRARY of games. Like 50 games. Then they moved to the PS2 and got 34 games and now he has an xbox 360 with 29 games and a PS3 with 8 games and a Nitendo Wii with 5 games.

Funny thing is, he is the one who said he is tired of buying a new console, and he will stick to the computer. So I go with computer.

I know its a long and tedious post, but the main point is, its all up to you. In my family consoles are looked down upon by my parents, but they dont mind buying me a PC becuase PC has so many benefits and I am gonna major in Computer Science with a Minor in IT.

So they always dont mind buyign me a pc, but frown when I ask for a console. So my mom and dad bought me the Rig in my Sig.

I love it, runs great.

Cheers.

Each has advantages and dissadvantages with a console it does not cost as much and you are guarenteed that the games will work on the system for as long as that system is out. also some may argue that consoles are cheaper in the sense that you dont need to constantly upgrade the play the latest and greatest games. PC's are nice because you can do more than just play games with them but when it comes to playing games it is not guarenteed that a game will work with your system depending on the hardware you have. With some GFX cards costing just as much as a 360 or PS3 it tends to get pricy to keep upgrading so you can play all of the games for PC with decent FPS. There are certain types of games that i would play on PC that i would not play on Console mostly being RTS or games that would benifit from a mouse and keyboard. That call is yours which you would rather have either way they are both hours of fun.

I have PC and 360 BTW.

Frankly, I think PC-hate is a little old. PCs certainly have a lesser cost-to-play ratio than the average console, but one has to consider than one builds their computers for much more than gaming. If all I had were my PS3 and phone, I would probably be fired from my job. A high-end PC is much more capable of doing...well, ANYTHING than a console, and there are reasons beyond gaming to consider regular upgrades. A well-planned upgrade can last easily as long as the average console's "lifespan" (4-6 years) and PCs still continue to provide their own stable of high-end, marquee titles.

And there's no console to date (or in the near future) that beats the fact that the PC is (generally) an open platform. The day a console becomes as versatile as a PC is the day that distinction won't matter.

But frankly, I love both.

Yeah i prefer PC as well, im not really good with controllers, but the problem with pc gaming is that you have to buy hardware every few months to keep up with the latest games. Im tempting to get a console because i dont have the money to constantly updating my pc and its starting to get out of date, but i think i wait how GTA 4 will do, because that would be a definite reason to get a console if its really living up to the expectations :)

I like to play consoles better... Only because I like the PS3 (and all other Play Stations) controller better than the keyboard and mouse :o and PC gaming can run with low FPS but I've never seen that problem on a console.

  • 1 month later...

I play console games because I don't have any trouble with them, I just don't have the money needed to play all the new games without any graphical compromises.

Also the consoles have full support during it's life cycle, whereas they might just stop making drivers for your audio card forcing you to buy a new one because the old doesn't work with a particular game.

I don't like to admit this but console gaming is better. However, many say that a console is faster than a computer...BLAH... A computer can whip the floor with any console as long as it has the right hardware. Obviously a good rig can run any game faster than an XBOX360 and PS3.

Computers have a lot more dependent variables while consoles have more independent variables. Computers depend on the applications run, the hardware and internet (if online). A console only requires hardware, which it has plenty since console games don't have system requirements. <_<

    • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari). • Ocenaudio 3.19.3 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display.
