NeoRequest

Question

Neowin,

Over the past few months, myself (JMann) and Chorpeac have been working on a new graphics request system for Neowin, called Neorequest. This system has been designed to provide a lot more organised and simplier system to request graphics. My job on Neorequest was to provide the skins and to make the graphics on Neorequest look very good and also to make the system simple so users dont get confused or stuck when using it. Chorpeac was the guy who codes the whole thing together and makes all work together and has done a brilliant job bringing it all together and it has worked perfectly, so without further talk, myself and Chorpeac present Neorequest Graphics Request System. Enjoy the system and drop us a comment or question in the Neorequest Official Neowin Forum, all linked below.

Neorequest Graphics Request System

Neorequest Official Neowin Forum

Enjoy it, as it was made for all of you and Neowin.

Best Regards,

JMann and Chorpeac.

Ok, just simply refresh that page or redo the action and see if you get it again. If you don't ok, but if you do get it again, Clear Cookies and Cache from your computer then do it all again then and then shouldnt appear, if it does though, logout and login again. If you still get it after that, post back here and we will see what's happened. It was probably Chorpeac changing and moving some files around.

Well, i think i know why this is happening to me...

I asked some time ago to Neobond to change my nick, and he did...

So i was Inspire and if i use that nick it does enter in Neorequest, it's not right but i hope someone could fix this...

Just read through this twice, look now whats the problem here? Neobond changed your name, ok right, and then if I re-write your sentence to make sense, I think it would go like:

So I was inspired, and went to see if I could use my new name on NeoRequest and see if it works correctly.
And then you said it enters NeoRequest fine from this bit:
it does enter in Neorequest

But then you say it's not right? So your saying everything works, but your just making a fuss over nothing? Am I right? Clarify this please.

I think he's trying to say that he used his old nickname (Before he got it changed by Neobond) to log in on NeoRequest.net and it worked :D

why don't you let someone who at that time already log on in neowin go through to neowin request. just my suggestion

585132461[/snapback]

Could be an idea, but there could be some security flaws, and some errors would come into the picture I think. But it's always an idea, we will see about it when the new Visual Theme enters NeoRequest. It's a possibility. Thanks Roy for the clearity on that, but at least everyone is logging on fine now, damn Databases. :)

try clearing your cookies/cache.

Have you tried cleaning your cookies or cache though, that would be the problem. I am almost 90% sure on that one, if not try another browser, for example Opera or Firefox, either things should fix the problem, get back to me on that one. ;)

First of all: Thanks JMann for this great request system. I really like it, keeps me occupied and is a good way to improve my godlike skills.

"Having said that, I do have some thoughts"?b>i>

- Most Requesters don't seem to check the site regularly. They just seem to shoot and forget. They want a logo, banner, a signature, an avatar or whatever (sometimes quite important stuff in my opinion) and sometimes either don't reply at all to submissions or only days later. I don't get that. If you get stuff for free (which is the case most of the time), at least have the decency to thank the designer for the effort, even if you don't like their designs. You have to remember that there actually was someone (and by someone I mean good to very good designers) who sat down, thought about your request and designed something, knowing that the reward for it is going to be nothing at all.

- Some requesters are not able to specify clear criteria for the job they need. I don't get that either. It's cool to specify colours and wording, but for chrissakes, give us, the designers, as many infos as possible! If it just says "blue, white, red lol", there isn't much I can do wrong, but the possibilities are just infinite. You're obviously not going to be happy with the results if you don't specify what you want. Take a few minutes, think about the logo you need, and bspecificb>. The less specific you are, the longer it'll take the designer, and the more errors can be made, which result in bad ratings, even though all requirements are met.

- I personnally accept requests I can relate to straight away. I don't submit for the sake of it, I submit work I think is worth showing, and of course work I assume usable. I think mass-accepting/submitting just to be present is not the way to go. If there is no connection between the request and the designer, the request shouldn't be accepted. For instance, I do not relate to screwdrivers, and I'm not going to accept a request of a screwdriver-company (unless it's the drink).

- Requestors: You just have to assume that all the people on neorequest have jobs, or at least better things to do than modifying accepted requests for hours and hours. Details can always be changed of course, but I personnally can't afford to spend so much time modifying my logos. You like the logo, you get the source file, you want a couple of slight changes, done. We work for free, don't take advantage of that, or offer something in return.

I know I keep moaning, but I really love the neorequest-system and I'll keep submitting.

Cheers,

cybadelic

Initially when I joined the Neorequest system, I had feelings quite similar to what are expressed above. I don't mean to hijack this thread off-topic since it is specifically for addressing bugs at Neorequest and not abuse/misuse of the system as a whole, but I agree with what is being said above by Cybadelic, a trusted member and really good artist working here for free.

A designer has to work hard for maybe an hour or two - especially a slowpoke like me - at the very least to achieve the final result which he presents to the requestor; so at the very least, one would expect at least a "Thank you" !

Personally, I always send an email to the requestor to inform him/her that their request has been filled and to email me back in case they want changes, but in 9 cases out of 10, I don't even receive a simple "thank you, cheers m8 !" reply :( Forget ratings, that's miles away !

That being said, I think Neorequest allows us upcoming artists some freedom to apply our techniques in real world situations and helps us to grow and refine our methods, so don't count on me leaving too soon :)

I now get this error when entering

ERROR [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]Too many connections ERROR [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]Too many connections

btw it's great

585541989[/snapback]

Ok, I want to do this in sections. Galoosh, thats weird. But upon reading it, it just looks like to many connections where getting on to NeoRequest at once, if you still get that error shoot me a screenshot here or in the NeoRequest subforum and I will look into it futher. ;) Hope its okay now though,

Great!

Damn, yeah doing loads of Graphics work for people I know how hard it is to have people not even say thanks for doing the work. It doesn't make it feel as if you are appreciated. Regarding the ammount of times people dont come back, I know about this, and its a shame, at the moment I have seen a slight increase (now decreasing though) of people &quotestingi>" out NeoRequest making requests and then not coming back, its such a shame, and we had the same problem on Neowins Graphic Request thread, and people got angry on Neowin, which resulted in warnings/restrictions in the end, which was a shame. Unfortunately there isn't much we can do by getting people to come back onto NeoRequest and say thanks, we have the rating system, and maybe with the help of Redmak and Neowin we might be able to incorporate something like a PM system that PM's someone on Neowin when the request is done and then the users can add there little messages on the end, and then they can continue the chat via PM on neowin, hopefully ending in a Thank you. We will see.:happy:y: But I suggest PM'ing the user on Neowin, that might help them to get back on. We all appreciate your work, as I stated in NeoRequest news a while back. And you can tell you like it, and you can tell I appreciate your thoughts as I wouldnt right back such a reply. Think of it like that, thats what I do, and sometimes, just sometimes it makes it worthwhile:):)

- Some requesters are not able to specify clear criteria for the job they need. I don't get that either. It's cool to specify colours and wording, but for chrissakes, give us, the designers, as many infos as possible! Hmm, this has made me think. I think I might start writing a little Artists Advice section for NeoRequest so users can see what they find usefull. As I for one know, there is nothing worst than people not clearly stating what you want, and then you get told its rubbish, anthenb> they say what they want and you find yourself doing it all again.:rolleyes:s: I will get back to everyone on this, it might be an idea if you could give me your ideas or if we worked on a little article explaining the right and wrong ways to do things. Add me to MSN if you like, click me MSN button;);)

Yeah, I personally think you have to put time and effort in to work, and if you dont like it improve it or redo it, depending on your thoughts or the requestors. But you have to think people have different ranges of skills in graphics, so you have to give them time to get practice, and NeoRequest is a good place for this, as long as the aren't too terrible.

My advice to first time artists, practice makes perfect, but save them on your own computer, not to people's requests when you know they arent very good. Be proud!:yes:s:

- Requestors: You just have to assume that all the people on neorequest have jobs, or at least better things to do than modifying accepted requests for hours and hours. Details can always be changed of course, but I personnally can't afford to spend so much time modifying my logos. You like the logo, you get the source file, you want a couple of slight changes, done. We work for free, don't take advantage of that, or offer something in return.

This is another problem, and people have to understand this, and most do, but there are the one or two. We do have lives, and personally I sometimes hate sitting at a screen all day, it bores me, so I go out walking, go to the pub and be with my friends, and what the heck, I even go wall climbing up in the hillsides, its me. People have to appreciate with what they get, as long as the are happy with it. Which they should be:):)

I know I keep moaning, but I really love the neorequest-system and I'll keep submitting.

Thats fine, and thank you!:D:D

Cheers,

cybadelic

This thread isn't just for bugs, it for everything, although it would be better to here this from the NeoRequest forum. We are working for free (most of the time) but we choose to, and I myself when I have time like to help and I enjoy it! The same as you all I would of thought. We all appreciate it, some people don't reply, but thats the world we live in, its not nice but we can't personally do anything about it.

A designer has to work hard for maybe an hour or two - especially a slowpoke like me - at the very least to achieve the final result which he presents to the requestor; so at the very least, one would expect at least a "Thank you" !

Im sure your not that slow, but slower the better I think;);) As I said in Cyberdelics replies, it might be nice to get this PM system working, but yes, its very disheartending but 90% of us appreciate everyones hard work:D:D

Personally, I always send an email to the requestor to inform him/her that their request has been filled and to email me back in case they want changes, but in 9 cases out of 10, I don't even receive a simple "thank you, cheers m8 !" repl:(:( Forget ratings, that's miles away !

Thats a shame, its hard I know, and its tough to keep you motivated, but keep at it, little things can all add upto one big thing in the end.

That being said, I think Neorequest allows us upcoming artists some freedom to apply our techniques in real world situations and helps us to grow and refine our methods, so don't count on me leaving too soo:):)

Good I am glad, and thanks for the comments, I appreciate and read them all;);)

Thank you,

JMann

Edit: Errors fixed;);) Quote wouldn't work, so every quote is in red, sorry about that.:laugh:h:

I need a logo like the round Dell one, but with 'iBox' in it, and white on blue(like the blue on the very left of this page). The text MUST be as rounded as possible, with NO SQUARE CORNERS.

Thanks in advance.

(The logo will be used on my new PC, and maybe my website)

    • Microsoft releases major feature updates for stock Windows 11 apps by Taras Buria In addition to releasing new Windows 11 preview builds, Microsoft announced that inbox Windows apps now have dedicated release notes in the official documentation. At long last, users have access to all the release notes for each app, with changes listed in chronological order. Microsoft used to announce feature updates for stock apps with each build. Now, with Windows Insider release notes hosted on the Microsoft Learn website, each app has a dedicated space for its changelog, which is very useful for those who want to track new features and improvements. Alongside that, Microsoft dropped massive feature updates for six stock apps: Clock, Media Player, Calculator, Voice Recorder, Photos, and Paint. Each app packs quite a lot of changes and new capabilities, so here are the release notes. Here are quick notes so that you can jump to the app you are interested in the most: Calculator Camera Clock Media Player Paint Photos Sound Recorder Here is what is new for the Calculator in version 11.2605.9.0: More accurate square-root results — Fixed rare cases where a calculation that should equal zero (like sqrt(2.25) - 1.5) returned a tiny leftover value instead. Readable text in High Contrast themes — Settings text now shows the correct colors in the High Contrast Aquatic and Desert themes. Fixed layout for right-to-left languages — For languages like Arabic and Hebrew, the graph, number pad, equation fields, and scroll buttons now appear correctly oriented. Reliable launch after upgrading — Fixed an issue where upgrading from much older versions could leave outdated settings that stopped the app from opening. Here is what is new for the Camera app (version 2026.2605.7.0): Zoom slider works on more cameras — The zoom slider now works on the latest cameras, respects your system zoom settings, and updates instantly when you change those settings. Full range of zoom levels — Fixed an issue where the zoom slider only showed three steps on some devices that zoom in finer increments. Front camera works on more devices — Resolved a problem that blocked the front-facing camera on certain wide-angle devices. More video resolution choices — You can now pick video resolutions that were previously hidden; the app shows a heads-up warning instead of removing them. QR links you can still use — When a scanned QR code points to something with no matching app, the link is now copied to your clipboard (with a notification) while still offering a Store search. Smarter default settings — When you haven't set a preference, the app now follows your system settings by default. The Clock app has a massive changelog with the following improvements in version 11.2605.9.0: Timers keep counting after they hit zero — When a timer runs out, it now keeps counting up (for example, -00:27:31) so you can see how far past the time you've gone. You can turn off the daily goal — Focus Sessions now include an "Off" option so you can skip setting a daily goal entirely. New 15-minute snooze option — Alarms now offer a 15-minute snooze interval. Run up to 3 countdowns at once — The Countdown Widget now supports three simultaneous countdowns, up from two. Timer Widget notifications now appear — Fixed an issue where the "timer finished" notification didn't show when the timer was started from the widget. Less clutter in Focus Sessions — Tasks you've already completed no longer show up in the Focus Session task list. More accurate focus progress — Fixed a rounding issue that could show your daily focus progress as a minute short (for example, 49 minutes instead of 50). Smoother World Clock comparisons — The World Clock compare page now loads dates as you scroll, so it feels more responsive. Up-to-date World Clock locations — Refreshed country and city names to match their current names. Correct sun and moon icons during midnight sun — Fixed an icon that wrongly showed a moon during all-day daylight in polar regions. Fixed back-button behavior in clock comparisons — Pressing back once now takes you back as expected, instead of jumping the date to 1926. Corrected the Newfoundland time zone — Newfoundland now uses the right time zone (St. John's). Disabled alarms stay looking disabled — Editing a turned-off alarm no longer makes it appear turned on. Cleaner timer cards — The expand button is now turned off on timer cards that have no time set, preventing actions that wouldn't do anything. Clearer theme setting — Updated the wording to "Choose your preferred app theme." Smoother Settings links — The "About" links in Settings no longer trigger an unexpected "switch apps" prompt. Fixed spacing in Spotify settings — Corrected uneven spacing in the Spotify settings card. Better focus visibility in High Contrast — The focus highlight in World Clock is now clearly visible in the High Contrast Aquatic and Desert themes. No more double announcements — Screen readers no longer read the timer value twice. Countdown names read correctly — Screen readers now properly announce the name of each countdown. Keyboard focus stays put — Focus no longer disappears after you press the Timer Reset button. Clearer alarm toggle for screen readers — Tidied up how the alarm on/off switch is announced. The Media Player app received plenty of changes as well (version 11.2605.14.0): Custom captions — You can now personalize how closed captions appear, with caption styling tied to your Windows caption settings, plus a quick link to open those settings directly. "Indexing" banner in the play queue — When your media library is still being scanned, a banner now explains why some items may not appear yet. Fixed the look of selected items — Corrected a layout glitch with selected items in lists. Fewer playback failures — Improved how the app recognizes supported file types, so more files play without issues. Playlists need a name — You can no longer accidentally save a playlist with a blank name. Cleaner look for empty playlists — Improved how a playlist appears when it has no items yet. More stable play queue edits — Fixed a crash that could happen when changing the play queue while the app was switching between sessions. Clearer "missing codec" message — Improved the dialog that appears when a file needs a codec you don't have, with clearer guidance on what to do. A big update is also available for Paint in version 11.2605.61.0: Adjustable eraser transparency — You can now control how transparent the eraser is. Cleaner stamp brush strokes — Fixed visible color shifts and artifacts when using stamp-style brushes. JPEG photos save in place — Opening a rotated JPEG and pressing Save now overwrites the original instead of unexpectedly prompting "Save As." No more crash on bad image files — Opening a damaged or invalid image, from within the app, by double click, or commandline, now shows a clear error message instead of closing the app. Classic selection behavior restored — The selection outline now hides while you move, resize, or rotate a selection, just like in classic Paint. Tidier AI image panel — Fixed missing spacing at the bottom of the AI image generation panel for a cleaner layout. Visible button hover in light theme — Toolbar split buttons now show a clear hover highlight in the light theme. Snappier toolbar — Streamlined how the ribbon lays out, giving a small speed boost at startup. Fewer background crashes — Fixed a crash that could happen while background tasks were finishing up. Stable app shutdown — Prevented rare crashes when closing the app. Fixed layer removal glitch — Deleting the active layer no longer leaves the layers list in an inconsistent state. Here is what is new in the Photos app (version 2026.11060.2004.0): AI watermarking — AI-generated or edited images can now carry a visible Copilot watermark. You choose Never, Always, or Ask Every Time in Settings, with a confirmation when saving. The watermarking is off by default in settings. Better viewing of small images and pixel art — Tiny images (like 16×16 pixel art) now zoom in far more to fill the screen and stay crisp instead of looking blurry. Select scanned text with the keyboard — When text is detected in an image, you can now navigate and select it using the arrow keys, Shift+Arrow, Home/End, and Ctrl+A, with a clear focus highlight. Fixed a crash in text recognition — Resolved a crash that could close Photos while detecting text in images; the app now recovers gracefully. Easier keyboard navigation — Tabbing through the navigation bar no longer stops on hidden controls, so it takes a single Tab to move past it instead of three. And finally, here is the Sound Recorder (version 11.2605.1.0): Waveform shows with Bluetooth mics — The live waveform now displays correctly when you record using a Bluetooth audio device. No more stray scrollbar — A non-working horizontal scrollbar no longer appears at the bottom of the waveform unless you've zoomed in. Mark button ready right away — The Mark button no longer looks grayed out until you hover over it after opening the app. Markers hidden for WAV files — Markers are now turned off for WAV recordings, since that format can't store them — so they're no longer lost silently. Smoother deleting — Quickly pressing Delete and Enter to remove several recordings in a row no longer triggers a "file doesn't exist" error. Fixed a memory issue — Resolved a memory leak that occurred each time a recording started. You can find all these changelogs in the official documentation here.
    • again, an article about Microsoft Edge and ridicules hater's comments
    • From this very same article: "For organizations that prefer a “more deliberate pace”, the Extended Stable channel remains an option."
    • Or every other browser, because they all behave the same, at least the mainstream ones. Firefox does exactly the same: background updates, restart to install them. Haters gotta hate, I guess.
