[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

The new patch seemed to fix my sound stuttering, which is lovely. The only other bugs I've found are from me abusing the physics far too much, such as stacking the big containers using the crane, and knocking them over. For some reason they bounced off each other at high speed.

But I think thats more of a Havok engine problem.

i fell through maps..at some points. glicthes in graphics itself, and the major problem was lock ups.. when loading level, during gamepaly during saves..etc.. but since yesterday i havent had any problems..so the fix over steam seems to fix it all. :)

Are you on about EAX 4.0 by any chance because I have the same problem with HL2... turn off EAX and everything is fine put it back on and everything is quiet apart form background noice... turn from left to right and the sound comes back then it drops again...

How would I go about disabling EAX4? There's nothing in the HL2 option about hardware sound, so is it in the creative driver?

Cheers

Sorry I meant disable all features for the sound card so it sounds like a normal soundcard and it's fine put everything back to normal again and everything is quiet even talking...

I have the Audigy2 ZS Platimum Pro soundcard... and all was working fine until I install HL2...

Various reports on the SteamPowered forums indicate that the posted "fix" doesn't solve the issue for many users. Apparently it just changes one of the config values - so you'll likely not even see the update window. Assuming the value was changed on my PC I don't notice any difference - even with audio and video settings turned down.

SureGuy

I checked my Steam status monitor and found that it did give me an update today. And no this wasn't the recent platform update as I got that the other day... guaranteed cos I sat there and watched it saw "Platform update mother f***a!" (Y)

They need to add something like a version number or at least a date to something somewhere to indicate how up-to-date a given installation is.

That's all you SEE it do. It fixes 2 of the 3 of causes of stuttering.

All your games and the platform cannot be anything less than the latest version...:s

About how high do you think I'll be able to have my settings(for half life 2) with the specs i have(in sig)

I think everything will be fine but my graphics card, because it's a pci card and it's a low end card.. :pinch: hopefully the 128mb will pull through?

thanks

if you woulda bought it gold from steam you get the back catalog, more free stuff a soundtrack cd and the full stratagy guide.

I'm on 28.8k (not by choice, inferior telephony infrastructure in my area) - so this is not possible. HL2 CE was my only choice.

I'd like to actually have a real sniper rifle instead of one of those crappy crossbows that shoot slowly and have a tendency to hit a bit lower than what the crosshair displays...

hehe The reason why

High Tech > Low Tech

But I like the physics implemented by Valve for the crossbow, if ever there was a medival setting in a mod, that physical characteristic should be taken into consideration. It would add the the realism, and not to mention if they had a 120 player map and all shoot arrows at once =D w00t!

I passed HL2, and I don't really like it either. In fact only passing NFSU2 days before getting HL2 I can say I actually enjoyed NFSU2 more. I think FPS games are the most inflexible when it comes to gameplay. I've played a lot of FPS in my time so HL2 was "just another shooter" for me. Sure it has nice graphics and physics, but as technology progresses all games are going to be like this. The game is also painfully linear, which is where I can safely say Farcry owned HL2 in this regard.

Some other more enjoying games of the year were Battlefield Vietnam, Sims2 and UT2004. I think Doom3 and HL2 are going to go into my 'soon to forget' drawer where I doubt I'll ever dish it out again for another game for a while now.

Not to mention it ends there without the lack of a multiplayer component based on HL2.

    • Thanks, Sony and Nintendo, you effectively killed platform-agnostic gaming. Long gone are the days when you could wish to play a specific game on whatever platform you were. Now, you have to buy the hardware just to play that single game. What, you're only interested in THAT game and nothing more? Bad luck, suck it and buy our console.
    • The AI data centers need it more than us so...let them gobble it all up at that price!
    • "CRAZIER than ever!" Crazy Taxi: World Tour is officially coming soon by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Sega announced it is working on bringing back some of its classic franchises in 2023, and while it has taken some time, the company finally gave fans a look at one of these new projects at the Xbox Games Showcase today, which turned out to be a brand-new Crazy Taxi entry. Watch the debut trailer above, which has snippets of gameplay in between the cinematic bits while blasting a track from The Offspring. Dubbed Crazy Taxi World Tour, this installment is aptly being described as being "CRAZIER than ever!" The director behind the original, Kenji Kanno, is helming this new entry as well, which will come with access to five new cities to drive in, competitive multiplayer modes, a vehicle customization system, and more. Axel is returning as a protagonist as well, but this time a mystery driver is offering him the opportunity to take his adventures to the streets in other countries. This will involve Axel chasing down masked villains that have somehow stolen his taxi, which means even more extreme missions and challenges to overcome. "From transporting passengers at top speed to tackling unique side missions and odd jobs across dynamic maps, there are countless ways to drive crazy and rake in big money," says Sega about this new installment after over 20 years. "Perform outrageous drifts, catch insane air, and drive at crazy speeds across five different cities as you work to deliver passengers and complete a variety of missions and challenges." The studio has even confirmed an in-game Arcade Mode that players will be able to access containing the original games for plenty of nostalgic action. Crazy Taxi: World Tour is currently slated to release sometime in 2027 across PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
    • This and Crazy Taxi are the two games that interested me the most from this showcase.
    • Good, because the nonstop chattering from the voices in her head made me quit the second game.
