[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

Recommended Posts

I feel I'm going to get really slapped in the face for asking this question but, never mind...

We have all had to register Half Life 2 before we are able to play the game yeah...? the registration is a one time only registreation yeah...?

So what happens if your PC eventually crashes for some reason (as they do) or your run.dll or any other files become corrupt and you have to reinstall your OS for some reason...

Bearing in mind the registration for HL2 can only be used once...? Does this mean you can not play the game again once you have...

Uninstalled it...?

Reinstalled it again...?

I have a valid point and has anybody thoguht of this at all...? :(

Just wondering...?

I shall shut up now...

im guessing that once you registered your cd key on steam, the key is then associated with your steam acccount. so if you reinstall or instlal on another computer, then just log in to your account and it should play.

wait a minute. what if i log in,then log in with a different user, will the other user be a ble to play the game? (its unlocked tho)

No because the game registration is attatched to your Steam account. You can install Steam again and log in with your account, and still be able to play again. You might just have to download the 4GB+ of files again. :p

[Edit] Sundayx: No because the registration is on your account only, not theirs.

Guys I'm not sure if this is the exact same stuttering error but it takes a long time to load the game, and frequently stops for 30seconds during the first level video with g-man. Is this the stuttering error you guys were talking about or a different oen because atm HL2 isn't playable really for me. The game looks awesome though in between freezes :D

k thanks wasn't exactly sure but now it sounds like I have a variety of the issues. Well when i tried to install the 4.12 beta's for ATI the installation had a bunch of problems and I wasn't able to get them working. Guess I'll just wait for an update from ATI.

Since I was at Best Buy today, I picked up a copy of the game. I'm planning to install it on my computer. However, later this week my new video card is coming in and upon installing it, I may decide to reformat (mainly since I haven't done one in over 7 months). Would I run into any problems dealing with the activation? Or should I just wait after I reformat and then install the game?

BTW a little offtopic, I know ATI has an app that completely removes its Catalyst drivers before installing a newer version. Does Nvidia have a similar tool?

edit: I just read a few posts, maybe activation is tied in with one's steam account so it won't matter.

You know it'd be a good idea to make a "Stuck In HL 2?" thread so we don't have anymore of these.

Anyway, I'm in the Sand Traps chapter, and I'm outside of the building called Nova Prospekt. I'm near those three watch tower things the Combines were standing on. I've asked my friend who has played HL 2 already, and he can't remember what he did there. Could anyone help me out? I just don't know where to go I've went around outside the building and cant find an entrance or path to another area..

damn, I'm stuck in a pretty early part of the game... I'm at the sewer system, with lots and lots of explosive with those flying things that's trying to cut you everywhere... I killed all those ******s, and I manage to explode all the explosive barrels. Now I am stuck.

    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.

    • Fixing things? Have you ever tried linux? Everything works out of the box nowadays in most common hardware. This includes Wifi and Bluetooth. If anything, if they return back to windows is because they haven't found an equivalent program which often used on windows.
