Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20" Widescreen LCD

Recommended Posts

...Now, on to the negative. The monitor seems to have a couple of adjacent dead pixels, and it has significant baclight leakage in the bottom corners and along the top edge. Quite evident with a dark screen in low light. It's Revision A02, and was manufactured in Mexico in September 2005. It's a shame to see that they still haven't gotten this issue under control. I called Dell, and they gave me no hassle about exchanging the monitor. They're sending a new one via next day air. I'll report back when I see whether the replacement has the same problem. I hope I won't have to go through multiple exchanges, as some of the people here have. I am a perfectionist, though, and won't settle for a flawed product.

Update: I received the replacement monitor the day after calling Dell. It's another Revision A02, manufactured in Mexico in September 2005. No dead pixels on this one, but still significant backlight leakage in 3 of the 4 corners. I guess I'll be going through the exchange process again. I'm really curious as to what percentage of the 2005FPWs have backlight issues, and what my chances are of getting one that doesn't. I'd rather not give up on it, as I'm really liking everything else about the monitor.

wow this backlight issue is really bad.. I'm thinking of getting the 24" one now

There is never going to be perfect backlight with no leak. Personally mine is not bad at all, it's never noticable and it barely leaks just slightly in some places.

I bought it second hand on eBay and I got pictures of it so I would know how the backlight was, and that was a much safer route for me. It is an A01 but is flawless in my eyes.

yes there is some backlight bleed on a completely dark screen but you cant tell at all when the normal windows desktop or a game is up. ya'll are a bit too picky! lol...

Edit: yeah btw, I LOOOVVVVEEEEEE this monitor. screw CRTs! oh yeah, 2 things:

1) why does this beautiful monitor come with the ANALOG cable pre-attached and not the DVI?

2) if you use this monitor via analog, ur an idiot

I just picked up a 1905FP on Monday and I am super pleased with the monitor! It's bright, sharp and worth every penny (I paid $302 US straight from Dell). Get one, you won't be sorry.

as you can see i have backlight bleeding in bottom left, top right-ish and a lil at bottom right, dont notice the 1 on bottom left, but the one at the top is annoying when watching non-anamorphic widescreen movies (but only because i keep staring at it)

    • Microsoft announces the return of Xbox exclusives with Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft had plenty of announcements to make today at the Xbox Games Showcase celebrating 25 years of the gaming brand. Now, under the leadership of the new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, Xbox games are going back to their original release methods. She appeared in the livestream itself to announce the return of Xbox console exclusives. This means two major upcoming games from first-party studios won't be coming to PlayStation or Nintendo consoles: Gears of War: E-Day from The Coalition and Clockwork Revolution from InExile. Both titles will only be coming out on Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PCs, ditching any plans they had for PlayStation. "These are not timed exclusives," confirmed Microsoft. "We’re committed to investing in and growing XBOX both on console and beyond." The company confirmed that any already announced Xbox titles for PlayStation, under previous leadership, will continue to arrive for the rival platform. This means games like the new Halo remake, Forza Horizon 6, Fable, and State of Decay 3 will still be available on PlayStation, either at launch or later. It sounds like any new projects announced by the company will avoid other consoles in the same way. Microsoft first opened the floodgates by bringing titles like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles back in 2024. Since then, almost every new game release from Xbox Game Studios has arrived for rival consoles alongside Xbox and PC. This decision follows Sony's plans to ditch its own multiplatform releases too. Outside of multiplatform live service titles, the PlayStation maker is even abandoning its PC porting endeavors that started years ago.
    • I'm missing the beginning part of this equation... but for the sake of the convo, you don't get to take a $250(?) set of normally priced RAM, jack it up to over $500/600/800 just because of a market shift, then lower it back down to more than what it was originally and call that a "sale". Not the author of this post... the manufacturer/seller.
