I mean, what's this crap with hunters being able to jump back 50ft

pff :p

We're virtually useless at melee range, so we need that jump back to at least have a chance to fire off some shots. If we can't get range we're pretty much a free HK

OK so what is up with people asking you for what achievements you have to join PuG's?? WTF? If this seriously is the way this game is going I'm going to quit again.

oh god, don't get me started on that, I think I already ranted about it a few pages back :p Trust the WoW community to turn something "fun" into a "requirement"

You can get an addon that fakes the achievement (No it's not against the EULA)

But still, it's really sad how they demand you have experience before they will group with you. How did they gain it in the first place? What if your on an alt, etc. It seems confined to just a few instances on my server but I can see it slowly creeping into even average ones.

Yeah, it's kind of lame. How do they expect people to learn if everybody wants you to have an achievement already to go? You should either try to get into them anyway (just give them your highest achievement applicable & say you know what you're doing, or even say you've done it on another toon), or wait for ones that don't need an achieve. Or you could try to get into a guild that doesn't mind bringing you along.

Well for the few times it has happened, I called BS on them and they never whispered back to me haha. But I mean really, I haven't played since 2008 so I am a little rusty, but I mean, getting back into how your character works isn't that tough, so maybe I will try and get some of these achievements ... if not, I will look out for that addon that fakes them. :p

Even then I have absolutely no idea why people would 'require' you to have achievements ... I mean they are totally optional and only give you trinkets and titles.

Actually, there even are achievements for just a normal instance run. On my realm it was impossible to get into a group without an achievement. Which is why I always created my own groups! (and it always worked out, huzzah for almost-oneshotting-everything-Ulduar-10-pugs!)

I think my server is just full of people who think they are too hardcore. I've tried to run my own groups to no avail. I think I need to switch servers. :p

Really is a shame the Neowin guild thing never worked out, a UK based one would have been awesome

Well, it might not be a Neowin named guild but I am the GM for a social guild (because atm I'm only level 33) on Quel'Thalas, but if you look up my character (Kaeci?) and just tell me your from Neowin and I'll get you straight in:))

Have a looksie at guild Clicky

Yes, mana should not be an issue for you. Remember to use Divine Plea before every pull (when it's not on CD). With Guarded By The Light & Divine Plea, you're constantly regenerating mana during the whole fight. It's absolutely awesome and there are very few times you will need to drink.

I have a Prot Pally myself (converted from Ret) and having 2 points in SA + the Glyph is just awesome, it's pretty useless in raids, but in Heroics it gets the job done, you never have to drink as you just get tons of MP back as soon as you get healed + Divine Plea.

Awesomeness :)

So i thought i would rest my main and Pick up my DK from the Sidelines, since the nerf i lost about 2k HP as tank so my goal was to get over 30k again and i finally managed to do that the other night. Takes about 1 day to get enough badges for the T8 chest and another for the Helm so i dont think the grind was that bad. Was wondering if anyone here could tell me if i am able to confortably tank ulduar 10 with my current gear now. I have around 32-33k hp unbuffed in frost presence and around 40k when raid buffed in most 10 man situations. My goal really is to get around 35k unbuffed so i need to squeeze out another 2-3k hp from somewhere.

You look fine and should defiently be able to do the first half and then some. Actually you should be able to do it all, cuz in my tank gear on my warr I'm worse off and can tank most of 25 man. And with upgrades from 10 man you'll snag that extra 3k in no time.

600th post in this thread. Soo is that happy face or sad face?

This is a first....

We will not be conducting our usual weekly maintenance during the week of Tuesday, 9/15/09. There will be no planned downtime, and no server-wide restarts.

We will, however, be restarting Uther to address an issue with a missing boat, though downtime there should only be 3-5 minutes. Everyone else, please enjoy an uninterrupted play experience!

    • AI is the beginning, wait until real robots replace more jobs, specifically jobs that require physical work.
    • AI is indeed eliminating jobs, and Oracle just proved it by Hamid Ganji There’s no question that AI has become the hottest trend in workplaces, and every company is trying to adopt AI-driven solutions across its operations. While some industry leaders repeatedly say AI won’t lead to massive layoffs, recent data suggest that AI is actually one of the main reasons some companies are reducing their workforce. According to Oracle’s annual regulatory filing, the company has laid off about 21,000 employees, or 13% of its workforce, amid increasing AI adoption. “The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce,” Oracle said in the filing. The software giant now has approximately 141,000 full-time employees, a notable decrease from 162,000 during the same period last year. Restructuring expenses, including severance payments, cost Oracle $1.84 billion in fiscal 2026. Additionally, around 49,000 Oracle employees were based in the U.S., while approximately 92,000 were employed internationally. Like many other companies, Oracle has fully embraced AI and concentrated much of its efforts on the technology. The company is also a key participant in the United States’ $500 billion Stargate Project, which aims to build multiple AI data centers across the country. When it comes to AI adoption and its impact on the workforce, opinions remain divided. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, whose company has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom, recently said in an interview that attributing job cuts to AI is a “lazy” narrative. “The narrative that connects AI to job loss, for many of the CEOs that are doing it – it is just too lazy. AI has just arrived, how is it possible they're already losing jobs?” Huang said. However, statistics and recent reports tell a different story. According to Layoffs.fyi, 196 tech companies have laid off about 119,800 employees so far this year. Reducing staff and replacing roles with AI agents could become one of the most significant trends in the job market in the years ahead.

    • UK funds £60M AI labs to challenge US tech dominance with open-source models by Paul Hill The UK government has awarded £60 million to Oxford University and University College London to help keep the country in the AI race by focusing on open-source, low-hardware alternatives. This is in stark contrast to the expensive, closed-source, and high-hardware-requirement models being created in the United States and elsewhere. The money will be shared among two new academic research labs over six years to help them redesign the fundamental mathematics and architectures of AI to help the UK reduce its reliance on a handful of US tech firms. Commenting on the development, AI Minister Kanishka Narayan said: Initially, the government planned to fund just one lab with a £40 million investment, but with this update, two labs will now get access to a larger pool of funds. The labs are expected to invest in the top AI researchers at every career stage, with £2 million per lab being set aside for hiring at least ten doctoral students. The government hopes that this will grow the UK’s talent in the field of AI. The labs are also expected to work closely with the leaders in British AI research, such as the Alan Turing Institute and UKRI’s AI research hubs. This will allow the various teams to collaborate and create new solutions faster than they could alone. This development is pretty interesting for a number of reasons, chiefly that it could create a long-term challenge for US tech firms if these labs successfully scale these open-source architectures that bypass the proprietary ecosystems. It could also give British businesses and public sector organizations access to AI features without paying high licensing fees to foreign providers or needing to invest in specialized server infrastructure.
