poll is missing an unsure option.

it has not come out yet and you want a yes/no answer. wheres maybe?

i dont use mouse gestures but i do use many firefox extensions. but if i like new ie i might just go back even with out the functionality the extensions provide. have to wait and see.

anyhow i use ie nowaday every so often, so maybe i'll just continue this way.

I agree and will wait and see what they come out with. :shifty:

I would switch back, the only reason I don't use it is because my roommate isn't very into the tech world and would get gods amount of spyware on the computer. But if you know how to use IE, you wouldn't get a single drop of spyware. Tabs would be really nice though, I don't know if I could ever live without them again. Everything on my computer is tabbed now.

But about the standards crap, how much of the internet uses IE again? Shouldn't the standard be whatever IE renders then? It really doesn't make sense for an organization to come out and say "these are the standards because we said so." Flame me all you want, it's just common sense that however IE renders would be the standards because it has such a big monopoly on the browser world. That's why Microsoft hasn't switched to the "standards" because the fan boys for it are such a small population, they could really give a crap about them. But really, who would?

no, the standards should be GOOD standards. not rendering PNG's properly is not something to have as part of a standard.

and MS is part of the W3c. they didnt just come out of nowhere. everyone but MS agrees that the rules should be followed.

just because GM sells hte most cars, it doesnt mean that GM gets to set the speed limit.

If it had tabs, and a good pop-up blocker, then yup! I'd switch back. That's really the only reason I ever left IE. I LOVE tabbed browsing. (I also like the pop-up blocker than Firefox / Maxthon / Avant has).

I hope IE7 rocks... I'd switch back to it in a second.

We will all be using it. How the hell else are we supposed to access WinUpdate and other MS services, as well as tons of other sites that are 'best viewed only in IE @800x600' resolution

you can get windows update with the auto update thing. you dont need to use the web interface.

i dont know if MS has any otehr services worth using a browser for

and any site that works only in IE isnt worth going to.

Yes, I can use the 'auto update thing', as you call it. But if I want custom updates without some journal viewers I have to go to WinUpdate. Second, Microsoft partner program just doesn't want to work with Firefox, as well as thousands of other corporate-specific sites worldwide. So your third statement is faled too unless all you use your web browser for is to look at pr0n.

and neowin...

anyway, if you havent figured it out already, the question is supposed to be "what will be your main browser?"

i just thought that people would use a little common sense. of course all windows users are going to use IE, and thats precisely why they shouldnt be using it in the first place. MS shouldnt be forcing its product on people.

and BTW, you can choose updates in the auto update thing.

IF IE7 disabled activeX and became more secure and added tabbed browsing,....

585536004

My IE's activeX have been disabled for so long and is relatively secure (configured). Aside from tabs, you used the wrong ifs.

Nevertheless my vote is Yes, IE7 will be my browser second to Opera8.

... IE is way more reponsive than Firefox (try using the browser on a slow XP system and you'll see).

For now, I'm with the first option.

585695205

That's the problem I have. FF is just slower than IE on my machine, especially when viewing forums like Neowin.

I may go back to IE if they add tabbed browsing, made it more secure and rendered pages properly.

ummmm.....the spyware, adware and all the other bullshiit scripts that Microsoft fails to make its products immune to regardless of the almost monthly windows updates which are mostly security fixes for IE. That is just sad and the fact that it pleagues your computer like that makes me want to get rid of IE even more. Recompiling the windows code after my buddy and I get rid of IE and modify it is my next goal. Heck I may even give it away so others shall enjoy a IE free windows, thats if windows will work without IE. I've said it b4 and I'll say it again, GET FIREFOX!

585661572

Idiot.

Idiot.

585705803

Agreed. Even though I use Firefox on a regular basis, IE still has its uses.

Recompiling the code? Oh come on. It would make more sense to use tools like XPlite to remove IE (not that I'd recommend it though).

Do these people have to spam the word (as opposed to 'spreading' the word)?

IF IE7 disabled activeX and became more secure and added tabbed browsing, would you switch back from firefox/opera?

Well, I answered the best fit for me: that I need other features. However, my real answer is that I don't accept the basis of this question. This "IF IE7.... became more secure" thing is simply not going to happen as far as I am concerned. The reasons are several fold. One is its tie to the OS makes any bug in it more serious than a similar bug in any other browser - the tie to Windows is itself a security risk that IE will never get rid of. And secondly, just how many times has Microsoft released a patch and said, "There, now it's more secure!" only to find out in about a week that in patching one security hole, IE introduced, in that very patch, two or three more security holes? Not that a secure IE is not possible, but it is not feasible at the moment.

    • I really wonder if this has to do with the built in VPN or "private DNS" of browsers that trip up legal requirements like cookie consent and Cloudflare (to avoid all the botnet attacks we get). And BTW some botnets still manage to get past Cloudflare, we are constantly having to tweak it to block malicious traffic that ultimately cause a DDoS.
    • CPPC states can also be messed around with in most UEFI settings but aren't as robust as the ones that the Windows Scheduler can provide! Make sure you look into what your motherboard also has before customizing for the Windows Scheduler.
