Google plans to double Gmail capacity

jd957, you might be looking at your percentage of you total email box space. The percentage change to calculate the new total amount of allowed space (2 gb or 2024 mb in computer language).

Mine is going up and with about 100 MB more to go, I will have 2 GB by tonight! :D

i know.....lol, been following this thread and have been laughing. just put that there for a reaction. :D

blah! i'll just wait untill it reaches 2GB or more specifically 2048MB ;) though i may not be at home to see it happen

EDIT: ok i just experimented and found out that it increases by 0.01MB/sec therefore it increases by 1MB every 1min45sec. so at this rate from the amount it is at (round of to nearest 5 or 10 if you want) how long before it reaches 2048MB? anyone who loves maths wanna figure it out?

EDIT2: my guess is nobody does (i don't either..).

ok i rounded it off to 1920MB so that leaves 80MB to go.

80*1.75=140

140/60=2.33... hrs (i.e. 2hrs19min untill 2000MB)

48*1.75=84

84/60=1.4 hrs (i.e. 1hr24mins)

so 2hrs19min+1hr24min= 3hrs43mins untill counter reaches 2048MB (coutning from 1920MB)

is this right??

24 pages big

But yeh

Im gonna guss about 30 mins or so before 2000mb, then the counter is going to stop, then Gmail is going to keep adding space on according to a source. Lets see everyones inboxs :p

whoa! I don't need that much! I've only used around 10 meg yet!

Mostly Spam, of course.

How can the servers make room and reverse 2 GB for like a million or two people that uses Gmail?

Look: 2 GB x 1 000 000 = 2 000 000 GB

THey can give people 2 GB because not everybody will use 2 G. Most people here were using like 10% of their 1GB. Some , myself included were at 25% or more. That means for 1 GB of space 10 people or more (on a rough average) could use 1GB. Google doesn't have to have that much space on hand, they will just have to be ready to purchase more space...as the need gradually comes!

lol, it would be cool if they had fluctuating sizes.

life is random, and so is the size of your mailbox.

ROFLMAO OMGBBQ

I think it'll be 2000mb, not 2048mb. Their 1GB of email space was 1000mb... but who's crying over 48 megs of space?

especially when you have 2GB?

Maybe we'll receive a true 2 GB box, 2048 MB, I don't know.

We didn't start with 1024 though did we . . .

Everyone got 50 invites again, no matter how many you sent out before?

Was on 36, back to 50.

Also, i dont know javascript, but maybe the target/counter could be looked at on the page. . . . anyone?

    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
