Mac OS X "Tiger" Compatibility Thread

Recommended Posts

As many of us gear up to make the move from Panther to Tiger, I thought it might be a good idea to have a central place to discuss software compatibility with the new OS.

Some of us (myself included) use our Macs for work and can't risk installing a new OS if one of our crucial apps is going to stop working.

So I figured, as people begin installing Tiger, we could list the following:

1 - Apps that don't work with Tiger (include installation method [upgrade vs. clean]!)

2 - Apps that work for you, but are posted in group #1

3 - Apps that don't work, but have patches available (include links!)

4 - Apps that work, but are showing some odd behavior in Tiger

5 - Requests to find if a certain app works in Tiger (include version numbers!)

*** List updated 04/22/05 10:20PM ***

1 - Apps that don't work

APE

Cocktail

TinkerTool (works, but it will screw up Tiger)

shapeshifter 2.0.1

iBackup

REALBasic

HTTP Mail

2 - Apps that work for some but not for others

quicktime works for some, not for others when viewing videos from some websites

3 - Apps that need to be patched

Remote Desktop works after 2.2 update

4 - Working apps with odd behaviors

windows media player doesn't stream at times

unzipping .zip files from safari download window may crash system

msn messenger 4 won't sign into accounts (3.5 works ok)

samba may tell you you're already connected when connecting to a share

stuffit 9 deluxe gives problems with files in folders

office 2004 starts slow

vlc crashes occasionally

split & concat give error for wrong version of applescript

BitTorrent locks when connecting to peers

Acquisition has connection issues

5 - Requests (a red app name means the request is pending)

dreamweaver mx 2004 (works)

flash mx pro 2004 (works)

adobe Creative Suite (works, with exception of Cue)

Acrobat Pro 7 (works)

Photoshop Elements 3 (works)

Adium Betas (works w/ occasional crashes)

TomatoTorrent (works)

Bookit 3.5

Audion 3

Patchburn

Transmit 3.0.2 (works except for broken sftp, fix pending)

Xfactor (works)

P.S. - If a mod wants to stickie this and add 'Official' to the thread title, go right ahead :winkwink:

- Dreamweaver MX 2004 7.0.1

- Flash MX Professional 2004 7.2

- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop 8.0, Illustrator 11.0.0, InDesign 3.0.1)

- Acrobat Professional 7.0

Those apps all work for me on Tiger 8A428, did a clean install of the system. So I'm 100% Panther free.

I upgraded over my Panther install.

Unzipping .Zip files from Safari download window sometimes crashes my whole computer (sometimes) Dock becomes unresponsive so on

MSN Messenger 4.0 launches but will not sign in to any of my accounts - MSN Messenger 3.5 will however.

When accessing Samba shares from the finder sometimes the finder alerts me I am already connected to said share when in fact I am not.

Edit:

Flash MX & Photoshop Creative Suit both work fine here on an upgraded Panther install.

Photoshop Elements 3.0 also works fine.

-Stuffit 9 Deluxe gives me problems with files stuffed in folders.

-Microsoft Office 2004 starts somewhat slower

-APE doesn't install

-Cocktail doesn't install

-Be cautious with using TinkerTool it can really mess up Tiger.

shape shifter v2.01 does NOT work with tiger- will have to wait till unsanity release a patch or updated version.

Final Cut pro HD works fine with tiger.

i did have an issue with the installation of Cue on the adobe CS suite. basically the installer crashed everytime it installed. i got it to install in the end - but when it came to run at atart up i got a message saying this version of Cue is insompatible with thie version of OSX. I did an install on a clean hdd for tiger. so dont knwo what it could be thata affecting the Cue.

The only two apps I have had trouble with are Split & Concat (complains about having the wrong version of AppleScript installed, it wants 1.9.0 and says Tiger has 1.1.0), and the official BitTorrent client (launches, but locks up when connecting to peers). MSN Messenger works fine for me.

Installation was upgrade from 10.3.9 to 8A425 to 8A428.

Everything else seems to be working fine.

well its weird but I can't watch any of the Quicktime movies on www.milkandcookies.com, anyone else having this problem?

Same here. Weird, I looked at the source for the page and there's nothing odd with it. I'll try it on my Dell in a minute and see if it's just a problem with the site.

edit: :( nope, works fine on XP with the latest QT for Win.

With the mention of PatchBurn does anyone know if 10.4 fully supports more DVD drives? Specifically the Pioneer DVR-108 & 109 drives.

Sorry, I guess that's not really app related.

I've heard that some Sony drives that weren't previously supported are now. Don't know about the Pioneer drives though (although I hope they are, I've been thinking of picking up one to replace the 105 in my PowerMac).

    • Weekend PC Game Deals: Anno 117, Final Fantasy VII, Rematch, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Weekend PC Game Deals is where the hottest gaming deals from all over the internet are gathered into one place every week for your consumption. So kick back, relax, and hold on to your wallets. The Epic Games Store's mystery giveaways may have ended, but its regular freebies didn't miss a step this week. The double drop was for copies of Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King. Speed Freeks lands for multiplayer racing fans, but with plenty of competitive shooting elements too. You will be piloting Ork buggies, tanks, and aircraft modeled after the popular tabletop miniatures while trying to complete objectives and pass finish lines. Next, Ouroboros King is a crossover between chess and tactical roguelikes, offering the chance to create your own army with special rules to beat incoming foes on the board. The double giveaway on the Epic Games Store will be available until June 11, and replacing it will be Citizen Sleeper and ROBOBEAT. The Humble Store brought a new charity bundle to check out this week too. • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
    • Same, never saw it on Android or iOS. Guess only some people got it *shrugs*
    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
