Thankx to say this... now I must to close all services one by one...

(but explorer.exe as crashed)

*Give a punch*

Hum.. ya, beta heh...

Well, MSN 7.0.0225 (or the first one) was better...

And I use a lot of beta things... (Like FF 1.0+ where i'm typing)

But seriously... AIM (even not beta) as always dispointed me...

If someone have a link to show me how to mod it and enjoy it there no prob in this...

I have only 3 buddis but they are "MSN Haters" so... =_='

Not to tick you off or anything, but can you show me proof? You just edited with out even proving anything. I had an offical AIM team member/coder say it was AIM 6.0 Beta 1. You have someone random dude who just says its not. So the version number is 0.1.12 who cares? Have you ever heard of test builds and code names. Just because it doesn't have 6 in it doesn't mean its not the real thing.

I'm not saying I'm absolutly right or know it all, but come on, it has AIM written all over it. And if you even read the site, it says all the features from 5.9 haven't been implented yet because its being rewritten from scratch. How can it be a brand new program if it's written from scratch? They will be implented as the beta moves on. So, really, do your homework before messing with something.

Actually it states right on the software page... look for yourself.

I see no mention of AIM Beta 6.0. Until its called AIM 6.0, its not.

From the beta newsletter:

Aim Triton Beta

We are pleased to announce the start of the AIM Triton Beta test, AOL's latest instant messaging software that combines the best of the main AOL client's IM feature, AIM and much more. The main features of this Beta 1 release are:

A modernized appearance. The Buddy List?, IM, Chat and Invitation forms all have an exciting new look and feel to them.

Enhanced usability. New menus and tabs, such as Mobile and Talk, have been added to the Buddy List, IM and Chat forms to allow for enhanced usability.

Address book and Buddy List integration. The Buddy List feature now has a Buddies and All Contacts tabs, which provide you with a managed list of screen names and entry points to detailed contact information.

Support for multi-party voice chat. This improves and extends the existing AOL Talk feature, allowing you to talk with multiple buddies at the same time.

A standard Invitations infrastructure that allows you to initiate interactive experiences with one or more users. Invitation forms have a standard user interface regardless of the interactive experience you intend to share.

A new IM form called Quick Note that appears when you initiate your first IM to a screen name online.

An enhanced Settings form that allows you to better customize your instant messaging experience.

The AIM Triton Beta area is accessible at Keyword: Beta or at http://beta.aol.com/tritonbeta. While there, please be sure to check out the AOL Talk section. It is one of our main areas of focus for this test, and we'd like to see you test this feature extensively. We also do encourage you to read the Known Issues and FAQs before you download and install the software on your machine.

Thanks in advance for testing. We eagerly look forward to your always insightful feedback.

So, no official mention of 6.0.

Why are you guys debating wtf its called? I highly doubt that its going to be called AIM Triton. Software companies always give projects codenames... Whisler, Longhorn, ect. Obviously, the next major version of AIM would be 6.0.

I don't know how you can say Triton is not a 6.0 beta. And if it doesn't go final as "6.0", so what?

Thats like saying Longhorn isn't Windows.

Point is: Its a beta of the next upcoming AIM client.

Not to be a jerk, but anybody who sees an AIM client in beta form being released by AOL programmers and claims that its not the next version of AIM and doesnt offer an explanation as to what it actually is...is a MORON.

I mean seriously...guys...get a clue already.

If you are familiar with how AOL beta tests, you would know this is NOT AIM 6. If it were a public (as it is) beta it would be posted on the AIM.com beta site. It states there is not a current beta at the time.

Also, as previously stated the version number is not in the same context as the 5.xxxx version numbers. This version of AIM will be packaged with a premium bundle, much like AOL Communicator, with a connection service (v4) that is also currently in AOL (not AIM) beta. Just last year they released an upgraded version of AIM, with a different GUI, and stripped of quite a few 'AIM' features, and bundled it with a outlook-like mail-client, and called it Communicator. In the future this test may be a standalone program as well, but it will not replace the GM version of AIM.

Regardless of what this is or what it will become, it is a great application in looks and hopefully will prove to be feature filled. As far as ads, hello? if you aren't a paying subscriber to anything and just 'using' AIM, of course there is going to be ads. It is like that on the internet and in ALL medias. Just because you don't want ads during your favorite tv show, doesn't mean you have the option to skip them. I mean, come on.

I hope the debate is over and we can move on to what we hope will be added in phase 2.

I don't think you can draw these conclusions. The application is called AIM and the journal of an AOL developer states it is AIM 6, a rewrite of the current GM AIM.

i agree, i don't think this guy is jumping to obvious assumptions. especially when the AOL developers call it AIM 6

This Triton is nice looking. However, where are the HTML profiles? lol. That's the reason why I never switched to gaim/miranda/trillian.

Btw Bawx.. what do you mean custom BList? :p

585830586[/snapback]

You do know there is a plugin for Trillian that gives you HTML profiles right?

man this is horrible... and i LIKE aim too...

its running 4 processes for one program and 3 of them are called aol host service and one is using 70MB, another 15MB and one 5MB of ram then the 4th one is using 46MB ram... all for a simple messageing program!

i know its a alpha but sheesh 4 processes for a single program? with THAT much memory?

This is a very interesting blog. It is nice to see AIM developers interested in participating in an open forum.

Things are looking good for AIM. I only use it because ALL of my friends do. If I had a choice, I'd use MSN or Yahoo.

Here are my opinions and yes I know it's a very early beta:

+ Excellent UI!

+ Slick Animations

+ Search Ability

+ Accessible Search - Right at the top!

+ Tabs

+ VERTICAL Tabs

- Profile support! I want to view and access them! I hope this just hasn't been put in yet!

- As stated before: RAM usage. However I strongly confide that this will be fixed in the near future

- Semi-akward menu (especially right-click) layouts

- :x These smileys are way overdue for a face lift (pun... :boo:). Again, I assume this will be changed soon

I really can't wait for this project to go final. I belive it will be AIM 5.9's successor. However, I think they are going to have extensive beta testing as this is such a drastic change.

    • If you go to the game developer website you can see that indeed Cyril Paciullo is the game director and developer https://www.pluralys.ca/about-us/ and when clicking on his name it lists Messenger Plus! as part of his CV. In case you wondered what happened to Patchou
    • A difficult position to be in. Either they cater to us users or they cater to news curators to potentially increase traffic. Personally, I wasn't being sarcastic. Hosting a website isn't free, so without traffic this site stops existing, and if you want traffic you have to play the game. I legitimately thought the title was good. Not because I like it, but because it's the kind of title people will click on. This site needs that.
