Why? Graphics matter so much? There is a limit on how much power the small console will be able to contain. PS3 and X-box 360 is 3-4 times as big.

Xbox was 4 times the size of GameCube though. If that's the kind of power difference we can expect again Revolution will be fine.

Ok, at least they got all that time after Xbox 360 & PS3 comes out...  I hope they try to have graphics as good as those, if not better.

I seriously could care less about the graphics, but that is me because my favorite games will always be 2D animated by hand or computer i.e. Castlevania: SOTN type graphics. Nintendo downplayed the capabilities of the GameCube before it came out and it turned out being slightly less powerful then the Xbox so I wouldn't be too worried when they said the Revolution is 2-3x more powerful then the Cube.

Photorealistic is fine. In certain games. If every game ever looked photo realistic then it would suck. Part of (for example) Viewtiful Joe's appeal is it's graphical style, does that make it a crap game? Games like GT and (to an extent, I like the partially stylised look) GTA will benefit from it, but it's being played out like it's the be all and end all when it's not.

With so much graphical power on hand it definitely puts the ball back in the artists court as opposed to the developers telling them what they can and can't do. Here's where the talent shines through.

Ok, guys (jeixangel :)) none of the demos you saw for the xbox 360 or the PS3 were running on actual hardware. It's very likely that some of the PS3 demos were prerendered (especially killzone2), and the demos that were running in realtime were made on dual 6800 ultras or the G70 depending on the demo. Furthermore, none of the xbox 360 games were running on final hardware either.

The difference between the PS3 and 360 demos was that the 360 was showing real games that were way too early and thus were kind of disapointing (though I am sure that many of them will improve before release, the games running on the pre-production underpowered hardware were more of an evolution than a revolution in graphics), and the PS3 was showing demos that are meant to show what they want us to think gameplay will be like. Neither of these things are accurate indicators of what each console has in store for us.

Therefore, the more that I look at it the more I wish that the other manufacturers followed nintendo in all but one respect. I want the revolutions tech specs, lol. I think that there was enough quality software at this E3 for the current consoles that it was kind of ridiculous that it got overshadowed by too-early next gen games and tech demos (both of which weren't even running on the actual hardware yet).

Also, the revolution is supposed to be 3 dvd cases, not 3 vhs tapes. And the claim that it was only 2-3 times more powerful than gcn were proven to be false. We will have to wait for the games to show us how powerful the revoution is. If you look at the gcn, Nintendo said that the polygon count for games was 6-12 with all effects. Not only did that prove to be really conservative, but the mindless masses started to compare that with the 75million and 116.5 million raw and not displayable specs on the PS2 and Xbox. I am pretty sure that the gcn's raw polygon pushing power is 90 million (read it years ago on some site discussing the tech specs of gcn that Nintendo failed to reveal). And even though a lot of people will say that that can't be true, how could that stupid little kids cube have more power than the PS2?, I just point at how the games look on my gcn compared to my PS2 and let them do the talking.

Also, just so I don't seem like a graphics freak, I like my PS2 more than my GCN because its multitude of games that appeal to me outweigh my love for zelda, heh. If nintendo wants to win my heart again as my favorite overall console, then they will have to get a broader variety of quality titles on the revolution. Sometimes I just want something new no matter how good the sequels to the old stuff are. Oh and Miyamoto said that the revolution is set in stone, so its not gonna change just like the 360 and PS3 aren't going to.

i've often told me friends that I hated how all games were becoming 3d.

I'm a mega StreetFighter fan and rather than them focusing on Ex series, why dont they just make lovelier sprites like how Guilty Gear did?

Alpha was nice but characters looked different, and the Versus series had gaming flaws that changed the whole game.

I argee, some games do not belong 3D. Nintendo may have pulled it off with Mario and Metriod, but have failed to do it with Donkey Kong, etc. My biggest disappointment has been Castlevania by far and I think Konami has ruined the series on consoles. Lament of Innocence was the biggest waste of the $5 I rented it for. MegaMan also comes to mind too as another franchise gone bad.
not if the game sucks ass.  i mean jeeze, some of the best games of all time are on old systems with terrible graphics...

My brother's all-time favorite game, who is right now 16, is earthbound for snes. This is a kid who was still drinking milk from his mother's ###### when snes was out, and that's his all-time favorite game.

He said when the SNES was out (SNES came out in the US Sept 1991), so his brother was about 2 yrs old and he was still suckin for milk.

Note: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends children be breastfed/weaned for at least two years. Though it's unusual for some countries (USA) to continue for that long.

So it's still possible.

Just to add fuel to the speculation of the controller, I have never seen this old press release before. This is the company that Nintendo is an investor with and owns the rights to their Gyration research and development in the areas of motion-sensing and wireless RF technologies: Link. So if you are intrested you can read it. They have some really cool gryoscopic mice.

Gyration intends to be the first company to produce game controllers enhanced with gyroscopic motion-sensors, which have a tenfold performance increase over accelerometer tilt sensors and add the ability to sense yaw as well as pitch. A gyro-equipped, motion-sensing controller provides a natural method of game control that draws the player into the game and makes game play more enjoyable. The motion sensor can take the place of a typical thumb pressure pad allowing one-handed game play, or can be integrated into a two-handed controller to add a dimension to game playing not possible with traditional game controllers.

Very interesting.. It do match what Iwata said at last year E3 (also some this year). He said something about making it easier to use the controller. Also he thinks todays controllers have to many buttons.

wasn't there some type of confirmation that the "Revolution" controller was going to use gyration technologies?

Fans (Yes, Even myself) of Nintendo are Loyal, but Nintendo is just keeping deliver short of expecations, to me :(

At the press conference, Nintendo didn't impressed me at all!

Ok, it's 3 VHS tapes size... So? Where are any of the specs?

Ok, it can play All the past Nintendo games... How? Do I have to pay for each game, or they are all FREE? They didn't say.

Ok, it can go online as well... Xbox shows Live and it's really impressive. Nintendo also didn't show us anything.

And, where the hell are the Revolution games demos? PS3 and Xbox 360 All showed them!

I am not trying to troll here, I AM a former fan of Nintendo! However, now I am just losing faith in them!

Hah where to begin.

1. Its 3 DVD CASES (horizontal) tall.

2. You have access to an online catalogue of 20 years worth of games, and it is up to the developer to charge you for the games or not. Nintendo games are going to be free, as far as I understood from various interviews.

3. Nintendo's online play cant be showed unless games are showed, its common sense. It will be free, unlike the subscription based service Xbox has.

4. Revolution didnt show anything because they simply were not ready for the public and they did not want to show the public false hope like PS3 and Xbox 360 did. PS3's demos were all pre rendered to how the developers WANT the game to look like (dumbed down Lightwave renders to match specs of the console) and the 360 demos are more or less the same.

Dont "lose hope" just because they dont show something at an entertainment expo. It isnt the end of the world, and the media does not stop covering news about consoles when E3 is over. Nintendo will release the console in 2006. No use in showing the public incomplete things now when it is a year away from release. Be patient, give it a few months.

LOL. Nintendo is an innovative and a nonconformist company. They've led the way with video games in the past and they will continue to do so. :) They don't need to wow the world with fancy numbers and specifications at a highly overrated entertainment expo to make themselves a solid presence in the video gaming industry. So expect Nintendo continue to be excellent. :woot:

By the way, controllers with gyro-sensors in them would be amazing and awesome. Definitely a revolution. (Y)

    • Anyway to download these versions without being on the Experimental builds?
    • Nothing is stopping you from continuing with your testing cadence. If updates are released every 2 weeks instead of 4, and you test once every 4 weeks, the exact same amount of patches will still be available for you in those 4 weeks. For example: Before 4th week - patch 1, 2, 3, 4 After 2nd week - patch 1 and 2 4th week - patch 3 and 4 Still the same amount after 4.
    • Everyone else has said it. I'm gonna say it - you don't know what you're talking about. I do. I have two laptops. One work, one personal. I have access to two more laptops - both personal. At home I manually update my personal laptop when I see on Neowin that there is an update - I carry on and only apply the updates when I am ready. My work one only updates when my workplace decides to send it - I carry on and only apply the updates (when they actually arrive, which is usually days after the release) when I switch off the laptop at the end of the day as usual. The two other personal laptops only get updated when I get to it which is rarely - the people who own them carry on using them until I get to it and update them. All of the browsers on all laptops are configured to restore the tabs when launched. Google and Microsoft have changed from 6 weeks to 4, and it looks like it's going to move to 2. None of these changes affect how any of these browsers on the laptops are used. Not one jot. My advice to you is stop panicking whenever you see an update. Just carry on with what you're doing. This even benefits you in a way - from your comment you sound like you don't like the changes or the frivolous new features - great - then carry on as before!
