whoa backwards compatibilty that far? That's pretty damn awesome. However, that said, the raw ghz specs seem quite low compared to the 360

the nVidia-powered graphics are twice as powerful as a GeForce 6800 Ultra.

So the GPU is what will hold PS3 back. Basically Nvidia's next G70 for the PCs is also expected to be double the performance of a 6800 Ultra. The PS3 is still a computer; a CPU, main memory and gpu with VRAM. How is this next gen

Sony also unveiled the PS3's graphics chip, the RSX "Reality Synthesizer based on Nvidia technology. The GPU will be capable of 128bit pixel precision, 1080p resolution, some of the highest HD resolution around. It also has over 300 million transistors lager than any processor available commercially today. It was manufactured using the 90nm process with 8 layers of metal. The RSX is more powerful than two GeForce 6800 ultras, which would cost rough $1000 if bought today.

consoles has been in great need of an update, behind computer gaming by a couple of years. X360 puts itself in the position of home entertainment media system, and I'm sure PS3 will do the same. The question becomes, what will be the future role of the desktop computer?

Its games not specs that matter anyway

Technically, hardware specs can define how well a game is gonna turnout to be.

Art is 10% technique, 90% imagination.
