So a word or two on a few of the new albums i've listened to this fall:

Ensiferum - From Afar: Mentioned this a couple of months ago, but it's still quite good.

Sonata Arctica - The Days of Grays: Quite good. Much better than Unia was imo.

Dethklok - The Dethalbum II: Excellent. The whole album overall sounds so much better than the dethalbum 1.

Epica - Design Your Universe: Pretty much, well... epic. Easily a favorite of the year for me.

Scar Symmetry - Dark Matter Dimensions: eh, a mixed bag really. Some songs are decent, some are just.. meh. Previous albums are better.

Thunderstone - Dirt Metal: Decent, but the new vocalist who debuts in this album just can't quite match the previous one.

And that's about it for now i think.

Just stumbled across this one on youtube - pretty good melodic death metal

Insomnium - Down with the Sun

Insomnium isn't bad. But i think their previous albums are better than the newest one, which that song is from.

I still have to get Dethalbum II, I've heard a lot of good things about it. Good to hear about Insomnium, I dig this song so I really should like their older stuff.

Phew! Thought this thread was dead also- Thankfully it's been a nice few months for Metal recently-

Cloudkicker - Portmanteau - Cool instrumental ambient progressive metal..

Mistaken Element - Mind Over Matter - Cool thrashy modern metal with sludgy vocals and some technical elements..

In Mourning - Shrouded Divine - Heavy Opeth worship with more gutteral vocals..

Tracedawn - Ego Anthem - Excellent Finnish melodic death metal w/ keys and such..

Subhuman - Profondo Rozzo - Awesome Italian death metal debut..

Revocation - Existence Is Futile - This f**king shreds!!! Very well-executed and well-produced thrashy technical metal- highly recommended!!

Lost Soul - Immerse In Infinity - Good old fashioned tech death full of blast beats/gravity blasts and monster riffs..

Red Circuit - Homeland - Vanden Plas fans will dig this one- Cool melodic prog metal w/ definite VP worship (which is a good thing IMHO)

Skyfire - Esoteric - Long-awaited album from these melodic death/black metal monsters- good stuff!

Nile - Those Whom the Gods Detest - Awesome release from Egyptian-influenced tech-death Nile - As always, insane drumming from Kollias but with enhanced production value and new melodic elements intertwined- one of their best IMO!!

Well, that's about it aside from the obligatory releases from Scar Symmetry, Hypocrisy, Paradise Lost, Novembers Doom, Gorgoroth, etc. lol.

Also looking forward to Katatonia's newest - samples are killer!

I checked out a few bands on your list -

Mistaken Element - I really dig these guys, very good technically, with vocals that remind me of Meshuggah (with a hint of Phil Aneslmo of Pantera)

In Mouning - They really had a good sound, I can tell the Opeth influence. Another band I plan on checking out further.

Tracedawn - I like these guys as well - not really a fan of the clean singing parts that I heard, but the growl was pretty good. Very good musically.

Revocation - I liked them too - the singer would have to grow on me, but they are pretty talented.

Skyfire - These guys are awesome.

Nile - I have the privilege of living near Nile, so I have definitely heard my share of them. My former boss and Karl were very good friends, he came by the office a lot. They are technically what every death metal band should strive to be.

Hell yea! Glad to hear that you dug some of these groups! \m/

Wow, where's this thread been my whole life?!

Some good finds in here. Checked out a number of bands suggested, and liked a few of them. I loved one of the songs from Tracedawn, a band Metropolis suggested. I don't care for the vocals too much, but man, the guitaring blew me away. :D Another band I've found myself listening to is Insomnium. Really good / catchy sound to their music. Very enjoyable. :)

I listen to a wide... wide variety of rock, but when it comes to death metal and such, I'm quite picky about it, so for me to find some metal bands I like is awesome. I too am a sucker for "melodic" metal though, I must say. Before this, I suppose the heaviest stuff I had to listen to was Shadows Fall and Pantera. Library is kinda small right now since all my stuff is on my old IDE hard drives.

Any suggestions in particular? Still going to go through this thread, band by band, but just thought I'd ask. :)

If you like Insomnium, check out Dark Tranquility as well.

There a tons of good bands listed throughout this thread, you should find plenty you like. :)

Thanks, already did though. Didn't care too much for the vocals. I wasn't really planning on posting things I don't like about the bands though, since as I said, I'm incredibly picky about death metal. The vocals just have to feel good I guess, like.. the growl and regular singing (clean singing as someone called it?) if there is any.

Insomnium though, doesn't really have vocals lol. I mean, it's there, but it's much more of a background role. Probably why it was easy to get used to them. :p

I'll stick around though~

so i listened to the music on all these bands' myspace pages. i have to say, i didnt really like any of them, save for Nile. Skyfire was alright, but not something i could stick w/.

these bands seemed to have too much going on in there songs w/o any cohesion. 1 of their songs could sound like 3-4. just my 2 cents.

im really into the melodic metal. im a huge sucker for riffs and strong melodies... think "Funeral Thirst by BDM" or most LOG songs.

Nile was pretty intense. i could probably get into them though.

Hmmm perhaps you would be more into Amoral or Textures?

    • On xiaomi hyperos there's also an option to disable google assistant. I've got everything disabled. Only thing I do have installed is a web wrapped for duck.ai which claims to let you use various AIs anonymously
    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
