That's all I was suggesting. Due process under the law. Nothing more, nothing less.

Soma; to an extent, I agree with what you've said about some of the comments here, but others, I interpreted it as being pretty much my same mindset; wait until this is played out in a court and all the facts are heard before people pass judgement.

*edit*

Btw, what part of New Mexico do you live in? I lived in Albuquerque for 3 1/2 years.

I think it is important that an investigation is done before anyone is fired... And those who are suggesting they should be fired without an investigation are probably just too angry to think clearly at this moment.

I'm in Alamogordo... not too great of a place... I will probably be moving to ABQ within the next two years for college, though... and to finally experience living in a city. But I was born and raised in Nebraska, so it's coincidental that we are both living in places where the other used to live. :)

That is quite strange. Really strange, actually. I'm in the air force, so I used to work on the base. Just some advice, be careful in Albuquerque. Some parts can be pretty rough, and as I mentioned earlier in this thread, some of my friends have gotten shot at; that was in Albuquerque. And on the base gates, no less. A friend/co-worker of mine was on the phone with his wife, and a car with three hispanic teens rolled up to the gate, and stuck a shotgun out the window, then fired three slugs at the gateshack...missing the gateshack, but the slugs still went off into base housing. No reason for it, just fired off a few shells and sped off. We used to be sit at the gates and listen to the sirens and gunshots coming from downtown. It's not always a fun place. Just be careful where you go, and at what time the day/night. :(

I agree that making an example should be done in the court of law. I'd much rather see it there than on the back of a car. But out judicial system worries me sometimes. I gurantee he'll remember the trunk of that car more than he will the legal process. And the best part about it is, more than likely he won't get in any trouble at all for assaulting that officer if he indeed did. (The officer had a bloody gash on his head if you noticed.) It's just sad to think that the kid will get 10 million dollars for hitting a cop, but the cop will get 2 years in prison, lose his job, pay fines, and be publicly humiliated. I just don't want to see that...

You never know what he will and will not remember... the car could have given him a concussion, and eventually caused him to lose memory of what happened, so that is not necessarily the best way to punish someone... Besides, it's very dangerous when you are slamming someone's head into something, as you can quite easily kill them or cause severe damage to the brain... especially when it comes to kids, and someone who appeared to be as thin and frail as this kid did.

I did not notice the gash, I could only notice the police officer carrying the boy over to the car, then slamming him on it... at that point, I wasn't paying attention to the faces of the police officers, as the violence was quite distracting. But perhaps the boy did not give him the gash... It could have been the father who did it, or he could have bumped his head on something accidentally... It's hard to tell. But even if the boy had given it to him, the police officer really should not have resorted to doing something to him while he was in custody.

But we don't know if the kid will get any money, and as I said, he may have not given the police officer that wound. We can't assume that he gave it to him. And from what I saw, I wouldn't object to giving the police officer two years in prison if that is what a jury decides, if it comes to that.

Even when a civilian is attacked by someone, they can only defend themselves... when it gets to a point where the person who originally attacked them is on the ground, helpless, while the person who was originally attacked continues to assault him, that would probably be against the law... and it should be no different for our law enforcement.

I guess all big cities have their positive points and negative points... I'm not really one to hang out at places that are targets for shootings or psychos... I'd probably go to bars, but only decent ones. :)

What scares me is I am getting to a point where nothing surprises me anymore, and I am like desensitized to so many things... Well, there are still some things that I cannot stomach, but I just feel like this world is very quickly going to sh*t... Human nature is a violent, cruel, and destructive beast. :dead:

JediXAngel; this will be decided in a court. The WHOLE DAMN THING remains to be proven in a court of law, so quit saying "its yet to be proven the boy blah blah blah"... It's also "remains to be proven"... Yet that hasn't stopped you from taking his statement at face value and assuming the cop is racist. Quit flip-flopping on your logic because it's getting old, as is your blatant sensationalism over this.

I know this remains to be proven in a court of law, and I myself DON'T know whether the cop is a racist or not, but I think he is. I am not sure though. Regardless, what the cop did was illegal! He can't beat up someone like that, after an arrest.

Assuming you have a job, lets pretend I walked into your place of employment. I go up to the manager of McDonalds and make a completely unsubstantiated complaint about you, and he merely walks up and tells you to take off your little apron and leave, no explanation, nothing... And you wonder why I ask how old you are. Probably because your logic makes you seem about 12 years old.

Quit being stupid and pay attention to what others say, go buy yourself a "Hooked on Phonics" set, and for god sakes...will you please get it through that thick skull of yours...

You totally insult my intelligence! I Work in MacDonalds? Then I assume you work as a homeless trash collector? Are you not insulted if I assumed you that? Would you like that? Comon, SHOW SOME DAMN REPSECT! LMAO, **** I so wish to call you names right now, but I am SO mature now. Partly because of the rules set here Besides, to show anger to a guy like yourself online is not worth it. I rather be calm about this now, than given into hatred. I don't even know you, dude!

And, hell you question my logic? I am programmer and webdesigner, and NOT BAD at all doing these things.

See, I don't got a grudge against people. So, if you want to appoloize I am ready. If not, please don't talk to me anymore?

I am making a FORMAL complaint to the mods here that if you ever call me 12 year old again, and call me stupid, you get banned!

Look, I really don't want to speak to you anymore, but for the arguements sakes.

THIS HAS TO BE INVESTIGATED BEFORE THE OFFICER GETS FIRED!! I posted the same damn thing last nite. You've already decided that this cop is guilty, he shouldn't be getting paid, and should be fired, before this even goes to court, yet you time and time again say that anything that kid might have done "remains to be proven".

I decided the cop is Guilty solely based on his behaviors after he handcuffed the boy. Nothing before the tape will change my opinion. I said clearly that regardless if the kid lunged at the officer, the officer shouldn't have done what he has done (It was un-nessary, and brutal. You are a cop, you abide by laws. The laws clearly states you must not take revenge. If he wants to revenge (what he did) he DOES NOT FIT to be a cop). What part of that don't you understand?!? Are you.... nevermind.

Besides, you think the mayor is a 12 year old too, just because his thought are exactly same as mine?

[/b]the kids family said he was "emotionally handicapped" (which I have yet to find a definition for), which is different that being a "retard", as you so eloquently put it.

In this country, calling someone a "retard" is generally a bad thing, and considered an insult. I'd hoped maybe after almost a full day of this thread, you'll finally be able to comprehend that. [/b]

I didn't say it first, I was browsing other forums about this matter, and other people were calling him retard too.... and I think a lot of us assume that he maybe so(retarded), if the allegation is true that he lunged at the officer. Would an intelligent person do that to a cop? Else, the allegation about him lunged at the officer is completely False. Guess which one?

Once again, as a reminder ... Make SURE you understand, cuz I will not repeat again I THINK THE COP SHOULD BE FIRED (WHICH THE MAYOR AGREES WHOLELY), BASED ON HIS BEHAVIVOR (PUNCH THE KID, GRABBING THE KID'S THROAT AS IF HE IS TRYING TO SUFFEROCATE THE KID, BANG THE KIDS' HEAD HARD ON THE CAR), NOT BECAUSE OF RACISM, BUT THE USE OF ILLEGAL FORCE AS A POLICE!!!

Finally, I don't care who you are, even if you are a Commander of Air force or whatever you are, learn to respect people. If u don't, don't expect to earn respect back from me!

he was said to have lunged at the officer and cause the physical altercation, hey, we will see what the jury has to decide, personally, i don't blame a cop for being a little rough with someone who started the physical altercation (if that is what happned). Those guys risk their lives daily out there.

It is irrelevant who started it. The video clearly shows that the youth was harmless when he was slammed against the hood and then punched.

This is not the first case of this "officer" doing something like this. No matter what may have happened before the video was shot there was absolutely no justfication for what the "officer" did.

Ok, I'm not trying to make this personal or anything, but who the HELL do you think you are? How can you be so presumptious as to think that if someone says that you talk/act like a 12 year old you have any right to expect them to be banned? Your thought processes and sentence structure DO remind most here of a 12 year old. Sorry to be so blunt mate, but it's not our fault you sound like you do. If a mod wants to ban me for saying this, then by all means-ban away.

ah...he probably spit in the cops face and threatened to kill him or something...why else would they have 5 cops arresting one guy? i mean i'm not being cruel, i'm just saying if you live a 'thug life' you're gonna get treated like one. we need to show these ****heads even more discipline and act more ruthlessly against crime.

imagine this...the kid may have been carrying a weapon, pushing cocaine, etc. we aren't sure what he did...i gaurantee now though that one of those cops won't have a job, and the kid's parents will probably sue the cop, or the law enforcement agency, and make millions all because their f*cking son was selling coke on the streets.

they shouldn't have beat the kid up, but get real...it was a weak punch anyway.

I won't lose any sleep over it, nor should you hold your breath waiting for an apology. Nothing I said was inaccurate, perhaps a bit harsh, but all in all, deserved. I respect those that deserve respect, it's not an automatic thing. Conduct yourself in a manner befitting someone deserving of my respect, and you will recieve it. I can't see you. I don't know what you look like. I don't know what race, creed or religion you are. The only impression I can form of you is what you display here, in text. Based on that, I deduced that you are either a.) new to this country and english is not your first language or b.) you are twelve years old and have yet to grasp correct sentence structure, foundation for discussion, and proper conveyance of point and reason. You've yet change my opinion. I would say I'm sorry, but honestly, I'm not. One of my biggest problems with the world today is that people are afraid to speak their minds for fear that you will encroach on the oh-so-fragile feelings of everyone around you. If I hurt your feelings, oh well. Things only hurt when they hit close to home. Don't like it, make it better. I can't criticize what's not there, and I won't make up things make fun of you about. Ignorance is not and should not be an excuse for anything. :right:

Who the HELL do I think I am? Well, :D I am a nice guy (If you don't think I am nice, then I must be not happy about something like being insulted), and I just happened to be attacked (called 12-years old and stupid). And, I don't think I deserve these (you may think I do, then don't talk to me anymore) crap I being called. I find it to be very rude, and violated the rules that you shall respect other members. You forgot what your mom told u, that if you have NOthing nice to say, then don't say anything. Constructive critism doesn't include calling people stupid or very young as if.

That is why I talked about get him banned, because the rule was violated (No respect for another member).

Though, rest assured, I won't lose any sleep over this. I am a really cool guy if you get to know me ;) however, if you rather want to assume someone is stupid before you know them, then you know the jerk is you, not me! :p

Hey, maybe we can make a whole new thread for insulting Jedi, but I don't think this is that thread. As it stands, I'm on Jedi's side. Although I do think he pushed this matter too far as to go to the mods, when he should have said his piece and left it alone. I don't think Jedi sounds like a 12 year old though.

As for the 16 year old that was beaten by the cops, I ask that everyone in this thread go do a little homework. First off, let me say this: none of you who are blaming this on the cops because they are somehow "bad" are better than the common racist. I'm not saying the kid is to blame, but the cops can't take full responsibility for psychological issues. You try being a cop for a few years, and see people get stabbed, shot, and beaten by drug dealers, or abusive husbands. You stand at gunpoint and try to defend yourself, and the lives of the common person that it's your job to protect. It is just as psychologically tourmenting for the cop to have to chase a person down and arrest them, as it is to the person being arrested. So, why don't you go suffer that, and see how you turn out (if not a little mentally unstable), after a few years.

It may not have been the kids fault, but imagine how the cop feels after that innocident. Having to go home to his family and kids and tell them he was suspended for beating a 16 year old kid. I don't blame the kid, but I also don't blame the cop.

The reason I have room to talk about this is because I studied, in a psychology course, about police psychology. It completely changed my views about cops, I use to call them pigs, and laughed when I saw a cop car at 7-11. But, now I don't. Afterall, I don't think differently when my friend wants to go to 7-11 and get a donut, or some coffee. Why should I when a cop does. Police suffer psychological consequences when on the job for many years, which can lead to trauma comparable posttraumatic stress disorder. Police departments have the biggest and widest form of Psychological Treatment Programs, and they have that for a reason. It's no ones fault, but that cant change the fact it happened.

Back on topic...this is pretty funny. Seems like the camera man is a bit paranoid...

Seems that he had something to be paranoid about. The police just "arrested" him in front of the LA CNN offices and witnesses said that they didn't even bother to read him his rights. The Man was terrifed for his life. He keep screaming for help and that they please not beat him as well as they sped off in their unmarked black cars with dark-tinted windows. Reminds me of some East-European country during the reign of the former USSR. That will teach him to mind his own business.

Looks like they had somes charges on other matters on him now. How convenient.

More ways to doomscroll: Instagram for TV is now available on Samsung smart TVs launched in 2020 and later years. The company also announced that it's testing several new features on Instagram for TV, bringing it closer to YouTube and Netflix. This week in AI news Image: Microsoft Catch up on the latest artificial intelligence news updates that arrived throughout the week: Water-saving data center: Microsoft is building a gas-powered AI data center with a capacity of 2 gigawatts. The company will deploy a closed-loop cooling system, saying that its total lifecycle water use will be "only a fraction of that consumed annually by a typical fast-food restaurant.” OpenAI beats Claude Mythos: GPT-5.5-Cyber got a limited release for verified defenders. It scored 85.6% on CyberGym, compared with 81.8% for GPT-5.5 and 83.8% for Claude Mythos 5. The AI giant also announced a limited preview of its new GPT-5.6 model series, whose flagship model, GPT-5.6 Sol, is targeted at demanding reasoning and agentic workloads. Proceed with caution: The Trump administration instructed OpenAI to limit the distribution of GPT-5.6 to a small group of government-approved partners rather than the general public, as has happened in the past. Claude Tag: Anthropic launched its new AI teammate for Slack, enabling teams to delegate tasks to Claude directly within Slack channels. What makes it different is that it's designed to operate as a shared assistant for an entire team rather than a single user. Challenging US dominance: The UK government has funded £60 million ($70 million) to Oxford and UCL to keep the country in the AI race by building open-source, low-hardware alternatives. The two organizations will share the money over six years. Paying for AI development: One cost is the loss of human jobs. Oracle laid off about 21,000 employees (13% of its workforce) amid increasing AI adoption. The software giant said that AI advancement and adoption "may continue to result in reductions to our workforce." GitHub strips features: It removed the ability to manually detect an AI model from its Copilot Free and Student plans. In other words, its automatic routing system is the only way to choose a model. Are you a copycat? Anthropic accused Alibaba of creating about 25,000 fraudulent accounts to copy Claude's capabilities at scale. It told US lawmakers that operators linked to Alibaba generated 28.8 million exchanges with Claude between April 22 and June 5, 2026. Reserve my memory: The semiconductor company Micron revealed that AI companies are spending billions to lock up its memory years in advance. Its customers have locked in $22 billion worth of memory supply commitments. Another AI battle: A publisher group that collectively owns 400 newspapers sued OpenAI and Microsoft for scraping their content to build AI chatbots such as ChatGPT and Copilot without compensation. Anthropic AI ban: The US government partially reversed the Anthropic AI ban, allowing it to restore Claude Mythos 5. However, it can only be deployed for a limited set of US organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. This week in science news Image by Pascal Küffer via Pexels Catch up on some of the latest science and out-of-this-world updates that arrived throughout the week: 13 billion-year-old secret: Scientists found that the universe's first molecule (helium hyride) reacted with hydrogen much faster in cold temperatures than previously believed. It's a new breakthrough that changes our understanding of early star formation. Cosmic Living Fossil: Astronomers found CR3, a surprisingly pristine 11.5-billion-year-old galaxy dubbed a "living fossil." It suggests the universe's first generation of stars formed much later than previously assumed. Einstein's 100-year-old theory: Thanks to relativity, researchers calculated that clocks on Mars tick 477 microseconds faster per day than on Earth. This minute gravitational difference is crucial for synchronizing future interplanetary space missions. Don't panic: NASA's James Webb Telescope finally eliminated the threat of asteroid 2024 YR4 striking the moon in 2032. The rocky giant will give us a safe fly-by without causing any harm. This week in gaming? The latest issue of Pulasthi's Weekend PC Game Deals curates several exciting games on sale this week. RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition and Voidwrought have replaced the old titles in this week's Epic Games Store giveaway. For Xbox Free Play Days, the new titles include House Flipper 2, Blades of Fire, and Assetto Corsa Competizione. Steam Summer Sale 2026 kicked off with discounts for everything from the newest games and retro gems to all sorts of DLC packs, until July 9. Meanwhile, NVIDIA GeForce NOW added support for several new titles, including Dark Scrolls, SAND: Raiders of Sophie, and EMPULSE. That said, here are some more stories from the gaming world: Age of Empires Mobile comes to PC, here's how to carry over progress from your phone Xbox Insiders get Xbox 360 achievements and Gamertag character upgrades Grand Theft Auto VI pricing revealed alongside Ultimate Edition and pre-loading details Sony announces Bungie layoffs that will affect "significant number of employees" From the review corner This week, Steven published a review of the TerraMaster F4-425 Pro AI-powered NAS, featuring an all-metal exterior on the lines of the four-bay F4-425 series. Powered by the octa-core Intel Core N350, the TerraMaster F4-425 Pro is highly energy-efficient, operates quietly, and offers three M.2 slots. On the flip side, OpenClaw support requires removing security hardening (SPC), AI requires a paid subscription, the software feels like a beta, and the rubber feet constantly come unstuck. ZimaBoard 2 1664 Starter Kit Another NAS setup reviewed this week is the ZimaBoard 2 by IceWhale Technology. It comes in a small footprint with great modern hardware through a combo of Intel N150 and DDR5 memory support. On the downside, the memory is not upgradeable, ZimaOS is a bit barebones, factory reset requires USB flashing, and there is no automatic backup via the mobile app. Synology's BeeCamera software Christopher wrote his review of the software that powers BeeCamera Plus and said "the BeeCamera app is a great way to add private home monitoring to your network but there are some limitations." It's free with an easy setup process, fast response time, and good AI and detection features. However, there is no desktop version; it only works with Synology cameras, some configurations are difficult to set up on a phone, and it lacks the features of the surveillance station. • Zen Browser 1.21.4b by Razvan Serea Zen Browser is a privacy-focused, open-source web browser built on Mozilla Firefox, offering users a secure and customizable browsing experience. It emphasizes privacy by blocking trackers, ads, and ensuring your data isn't collected. With Zen Mods, users can enhance their browser experience with various customization options, including features like split views and vertical tabs. The browser is designed for efficiency, providing fast browsing speeds and a lightweight interface. Zen Browser prioritizes user control over the browsing experience, offering a minimal yet powerful alternative to traditional web browsers while keeping your online activity private. Zen Browser’s DRM limitation Zen Browser currently lacks support for DRM-protected content, meaning streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max are inaccessible. This is due to the absence of a Widevine license, which requires significant costs and is financially unfeasible for the developer. Additionally, applying for this license would require Zen to be part of a larger company, similar to Mozilla or Brave. Therefore, DRM-protected media won't be supported in Zen Browser for the foreseeable future. Zen Browser offers features that improve user experience, privacy, and customization: Privacy-Focused: Blocks trackers and minimizes data collection. Automatic Updates: Keeps the browser updated with security patches. Zen Mods: Customizable themes and layouts. Workspaces: Organize tabs into different workspaces.
