16 year old youth beaten by police

yep, the camera man had 3 prior charges against him. Makes sense why he tried hiding from the police in the first place...and then refused to give out his address. It's interesting that he still chose to release the tape to the media, proving its existence. Maybe he thought it was important. Or, maybe he figured the money was worth it.

What money?

OK, I don't get it... it makes no sense to me, but then again I am much smarter.

Actually, if you truly think A) that 16-years old boy is retarded, then it DOES make sense, or B) the cop racially attack the kid first to provoke the kid's anger, otherwise it doesn't make a lot of sense.

*SIGH* If you can't say that boy is retarded, then I wonder what went through the boy's head when he lunged at the cop, and grab cop's crouch (what the news said - not sure if I could believe these things totally though). My good lord, no one attacks a cop for a suspensed license, unless they are really stupid. Especially if you have nothing to do with it (aka Passenger).

That's what I am really puzzled at.

The money I assume he got for selling the tape to the media. Apparently the cops didn't get it first, and I doubt he let them air it for free...unless he really did think that it was that important of a cause.

We know what assuming does though...so I'll just wait for more info.

You honestly amaze me. Seriously. For the (seemingly) thousandth time, the boy isn't "retarded". By his own family's account, he's "emotionally handicapped". Not retarded. If anything, it's mentally handicapped. Get it through your head. Calling someone who is mentally handicapped "retarded" is not nice, it's bad, it's an insult, people get offended, etc etc. Don't know how else to explain it. What also amazes me is how you can just selectively pick parts out that you want to believe, yet completely disreguard other key aspects of the story. Fact of life; people in this country attack police officers for no reason, and for much stupider reasons than having a suspended license. Ever watch Cops and see all the morons that will run from the cops and get into huge multi-car chases down the freeway, for no better reason than the driver had some parking tickets. And as far as the boy being a passenger, scenario; car gets pulled over for having a taillight out. Officer goes up to give the guy a driver a warning, and sees the passenger tokin' on a crack pipe? Should he ignore it, because it was the passenger and not the driver? You point about the kid being a passenger has no bearing whatsoever. The cop can have all passengers dismount the vehicle if he wants to. That's his perogative. Typically it is done so in instances where the officer fears for his own safety, ie the officer is worried there might be a weapon hidden in the vehicle. It *does* happen, and there is nothing wrong with it.

However, I'm not saying the kid did *anything* at all until the full evidence comes out. This seems to be another thing you apparently can't grasp. Oh, and it's "crotch", not crouch.

What I'm curious about, now that I think about it, why did the cop have everyone get out of the vehicle...and if the kid did nothing wrong, why was he in handcuffs in the first place?

I wonder if the mods will be alerted on this one? :right:

I don't see how he had the time to make any deal. He'll probably get the standard rate going. Any money he does get will probably go for his bail now. :)

I don't see how he could have grabbed the officers "crotch" concidering how his hands were cuffed and the position of the crotch in question.

The kid was slow to react to the officers order and he just wanted to get back into his father's car where he probably felt safer. The officer failed to take into account that a child (Especially one who maybe a bit slow) just may be terrified of a much bigger person yelling at him.

Eh...maybe...but I can't see this as some sort of high-stress situation. Meaning, I don't see what the cop was flipping out about in the first place. It was just the boy and his father, right? Plus, didn't the cop have backup at the time? Anyways, as far as the crotch thing goes, the kid appears to be cuffed behind his back, which might put his hands about crotch-level if the cop was behind him. Still, to be honest and blunt, I don't think the kid probably did anything. He might have, but I doubt it. I think this was probably just A ###### cop who went too far. Just too many things in this don't seem to add up and seem fishy.

What I do take offense at is the "cops suck" statements.

Not all of us suck... :right:

funny how a guy with a video camera just seems to be strolling along with enough time to get the actual arrest but not the start of the altercation. Not to mention the fact that he seems to think he needs an attorney to give up a copy of the video tape.

and in new news

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- In a bizarre turn of events, the man who shot the videotape of Inglewood police roughing up an African-American teen-ager was taken into custody Thursday afternoon by plainclothes officers who drove him away as he screamed, "Help! Help! Help!"

The Placer County sheriff's office said Crooks was arrested in February 1999 for stealing two VCRs from his mother's home. On his way to steal them, he was in a traffic accident and fled the scene; he was later charged with hit and run and driving under the influence for that wreck.

It looked like the cop had a wound on the side of the head.

In that situation as there were so many cop's around wouldn't it have made sense for another cop to take over rather than letting the monkey's (sorry cop's) aggression get the better of him.

I say (unless there's more to it than meet's the eye) slap the cops wrist and change the proceedure for that kind of situation.

Ozric :alien:

Crook himself was under arrest by the cops... and why?

Here is why:

The Placer County sheriff's office said Crooks was arrested in February 1999 for stealing two VCRs from his mother's home. On his way to steal them, he was in a traffic accident and fled the scene; he was later charged with hit and run and driving under the influence for that wreck.

MY GOD, you call steal from his OWN mom a crime?

I wonder what does his mom have to say about this... either that his mother hates his own son. Or, whatever....

This incident is getting more & more mind-boggling *sigh*

I know a lot of you probably don't think so, but I feel (but I am definately not sure) this is just some Police Conspiracy!!! :paranoid:

Hell **** this, nevermind

I don't know what country you live in, JediXAngel, but stealing from your parents is a crime. So is killing them. And you're surprised at this because...?

The fact is, if the police want him for stealing from his mother, then his mother pressed charges. Which means he did, infact, commit a crime. You know what that is, don't you?

What I am surprised is his mother pressed charge against his OWN son?

Wow, a lots of you parents are so cold.

I know my parents wouldn't do that, and I wouldn't do that to my own kids.

That's pretty COLD - I know it's not right to steal (from anyone), but he is her OWN son; same blood, same genes.

I told you my parents, and myself would've forgiven stuff like these. Maybe because we are more kind than some of you out there!

Also, read the 16:44 post!

So going by your logic.. If her son rushed at her with a knife, and stabbed her a few times, she should not call the police, because he is her OWN son; same blood, same genes. A crime is a crime.. no matter how big or small. Have you even read over your posts before hitting submit? I think you should use the button named "preview reply" and just take a moment to do so. Your logic makes absolutely NO sense at all...

Or you just lack a sense of morality. You break the law, you go to jail. How do you expect to be a man if you can't face the consequences of your own actions? Heh, I guess your parents hold you to a lower standard.

Don't assume anything, you and azazel, and some others assume too much crap about me.

I am a VERY friendly, and GOOD guy, my record is ALL/PERFECTLY clean.

I haven't done One single crime, or even misdemanors.

My parents hold me to a High standard, and I held myself to a high standard. We have a strong trust with each other.

I believe family ties are important enough. You love your parents, your kids and wife.....

Ok, just thought about it hard, maybe this Crooks guy is kind of a loser ever since he was born (Which we don't know, and Can't judge yet) and he has done many wrongdoings, and his mother kicked him out of the house and surely enough his own son cause her great pain in these years she brought him up.

But, what I am saying really is that if Crook always had a good relationship with his mom, and they liked each other. Then, he stole VCR from his mother for the first time he did something like that to his mother, then I think it's cold.

you are annoying me with your ignorance, i wish you would just stop responding, can you get it through your head, you have no arguement. You beleive what you want to beleive and dont take everything into consideration.

Its been stated by many witnesses, not including the other cops their, that the guy grabed the cop by his balls when they handcuffed him. I dont care who you are, if someone grabs you hard by the balls you will react. And the fact that only a SMALL portion of the tape was shown kinda factors into it as well. It doesnt show what the kid was doing before the arrested him.

You obviously didn't come preinstalled with a Logic patch. Just because they are your parents that doesn't mean that they can't press charges on you. Would your mum just bake you a pie after you tried to hock her 3000 dollar entertainment centre for ?40? I don't think so. Does patricide and matricide mean anything to you?

The Placer County sheriff's office said Crooks was arrested in February 1999 for stealing two VCRs from his mother's home. On his way to steal them, he was in a traffic accident and fled the scene; he was later charged with hit and run and driving under the influence for that wreck.

Crooks was convicted of the three crimes in March 1999 and sentenced to seven months in jail but failed to report for the sentence, leading to the warrant for his arrest, the Placer County sheriff's office said.

Crooks had not been booked yet on the Placer County charges, according to Masserman, who also said he did not know if his client had appeared before a grand jury or not.

Dan Hanna, who has been traveling with Crooks for the last two months, said his friend was terrified of the police after he shot the video and realized its value to the beating case. >

Terrified of the police because he's beenconvicted> of 3 crimes and failed to report to jail more like it. You did know about the 3 strikes rule in California right? Not to mention the fact he's a jail sentence dodger.

Big Bubba has got his arm lubed all the way up to the elbow and you can be damned sure he's going to be having himself a ball for the next 50 years with Mr Crooks (which is a fitting last name I might add).

JediXAngel you're getting a bit too worked up about this m8. It's not healthy. You've already convicted the cop based on one person's side of an argument and yet when all the facts are right in front of your face you make up excuses on how he can't possibly be guilty....

Have you ever thought about becoming a public defender? You'd be great at it:rolleyes::

    • TeraCopy 4.0 Build 28 by Razvan Serea TeraCopy is a compact program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed, also providing you with a lot of features. Copy files faster. TeraCopy uses dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives. Pause and resume transfers. Pause copy process at any time to free up system resources and continue with a single click. Error recovery. In case of copy error, TeraCopy will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer. Interactive file list. TeraCopy shows failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only problem files. Shell integration. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual. TeraCopy is free for non-commercial use only. For commercial use you need to buy a license. The paid version of the program includes the following features: Copy/move to your favorite folders. Save reports as HTML and CSV files. Select files with the same extension/folder. Remove the selected files from the copy queue. Features added since version 3.17: Enhanced speed graph. New multi-threaded copy engine. Support for copying to multiple targets. Queue system for managing multiple copy operations. Support for receiving files via the LocalSend protocol. TeraCopy entry in the modern Windows Explorer context menu. Integrated toolbar in the title bar. Why receive LocalSend transfers with TeraCopy? Handle file conflicts: Skip, overwrite, or rename files when a file with the same name already exists. LocalSend always creates another copy, which can waste time and disk space, especially when resuming an interrupted transfer. Filter unwanted files: Apply ignore lists or remove files manually before accepting a transfer, so unnecessary files are not downloaded. Better performance on fast networks: In tests over a 10 Gbps connection, TeraCopy received files several times faster than the standard LocalSend app on Windows. TeraCopy 4.0 Build 28 changelog: Fixed a bug where Overwrite behaved as Overwrite All during same-drive move operations. AdvancedInstaller fixed the installer’s security vulnerability: EXE Bootstrapper resolved the %appdata% location incorrectly for the System account. • New AMD graphics driver fixes install issues and FSR 4.1 crashes on RX 7000 GPUs by Taras Buria AMD is rolling out yet another graphics driver. Version 26.6.4 is now available for download, bringing two important fixes. One is for those still using Windows 10 and having trouble installing driver 26.6.2. In fact, this patch is coming from the recently released hotfix, so it is not new if you are already running version 26.6.3. The second fix is for RX 7000 owners. AMD recently brought FSR 4.1 support to the previous-gen graphics cards, but there was a bug with certain games crashing when using FSR 4.1. I experienced this issue with Forza Horizon 6, so today's driver should take care of that. Here is the official changelog: Intermittent install issue seen when installing AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 on Windows® 10 systems for Radeon™ RX 7000 series and above graphics products. Intermittent application crash may be observed in some games with AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1 enabled on Radeon™ RX 7000 series graphics products. Known issues include the following: Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing Battlefield™ 6 on AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. AMD is actively working on a resolution with the developer to be released as soon as possible. Texture flickering or corruption may appear while playing Battlefield™ 6 with AMD Record and Stream on some AMD graphics products. AMD FSR Upscaling and AMD FSR Frame Generation may show as inactive in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition while playing Battlefield™ 6 when enabled on Radeon™ RX 9000 series graphics products. Failure to install may be observed while installing AI Bundle components in some regions with limited access to HuggingFace and GitHub. Model flickering or rendering failure may be observed in Maxon Cinema 4D and Blender on Radeon™ RX 7000 series and above graphics products. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1. Intermittent application crash may be observed on some models while running Blender on Radeon™ RX 7000 series and above graphics products. Users experiencing this issue are recommended to install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1. You can download the AMD Radeon driver 26.6.4 from the official website here. • Amazon may use OpenAI and Nova models after Anthropic reportedly raises costs by Karthik Mudaliar Amazon is reportedly considering to use OpenAI models and even its own Nova family of AI models after Anthropic raised the cost of using Claude inside Amazon services. According to a report from The Information, Amazon is weighing its options to reduce costs under a new arrangement with Anthropic. But back in April, Amazon said it would invest $5 billion more in Anthropic, with the possibility of adding up to another $20 billion if certain commercial milestones are met. That investment actually came on top of another $8 billion Amazon had already put into the Claude maker. Anthropic, meanwhile, committed to spend more than $100 billion over 10 years on AWS technologies, including Amazon’s Trainium chips. Amazon isn't just a customer of Anthropic but also one of the most important backers and cloud partners. This is why it makes it interesting that Amazon is considering other alternatives to handle its internal workloads. Although Amazon has been building its own options for a while now. Its Nova family of AI models was announced in late 2024 for Amazon Bedrock, with models aimed at text, image, and video tasks. Amazon pitched the model around cost and latency at that time. With that said, OpenAI has also become a more realistic option recently for AWS customers as well as for Amazon itself. Earlier this year, OpenAI brought its latest models and Codex coding agent to Amazon Bedrock, after changes to its previously more restrictive Microsoft cloud arrangement. This allowed AWS to serve even those customers who wanted other alternatives from Claude, without having to move workloads out of Amazon's cloud. Evaluating alternatives could also be due to commercial pressure and not necessarily a sign of a damaged partnership between Amazon and Anthropic. Whether or not Amazon is actually considering switching entirely to OpenAI's models or its own Nova models remains unknown at this moment.
