Canada adds an empty net goal to beat the United States at the World Juniors. Do we have a World Junior thread?

Toronto Maple Leaf prospect Justin Pogge was the player of the game for Canada.

The final score was 3-2, which would not normally be condusive to a empty net goal but due to an earlier tie with Switzerland, the United States needed a win today while Canada needed only a tie.

Both teams will advance but Canada earns a bye to the semi-finals while the United States will have to slug it out in the quarter-finals.

I'm surprised somewhat. This is one of the weakest Canadian teams in several years and one of the strongest American teams ever. I was convinced that the US would take the tournament, but now I'm not so sure...

I'll tell you who should walk with a swagger. The Swiss team tied the Americans and only lost to Canada by one goal (4-3). That's pretty impressive for them to do that.

The Americans, touted for gold by many experts, have now failed to win even the bronze medal after losing 4-2 to Finland.

Canada plays for Gold against the Russians in 35 minutes.

Speaking of goalies, when should the Leafs start to use their backup more?

Look at the stats:

No. Goaltenders GPI W L T Min SO GA SHA GAA SV%

32 Tellqvist, Mikael 11 6 3 1 641 1 26 336 2.43 .923

20 Belfour, Ed 32 18 12 2 1,909 0 100 979 3.14 .898

Maybe I just love stats. If I was a NHL coach I would demote the three forwards with the worst +/- to the fourth line. I guess it gets muddier once you consider special teams.

Toronto's fourth line would then be (all fairly big names):

Darcy Tucker (-6) - Jason Allison (-5) - Jeff O'Neil (-10)

I'm sorry but I feel better with:

Alexei Ponikarovsky (+6) - Kyle Wellwood (+9) - Matt Stajan (+7)

Let Tucker, Allison and O'Neil get some special teams time to compensate but limit their time 5-on-5 until they play their way out of it.

Theodore sucks. :| I'd rather get Osgood coming over here for Morrison and Cloutier. However, Morrison has picked up his play recently. (Y)

If Vancouver trades Bertuzzi, were going to lose everything, that guy's our MVP, he outplays Naslund in my mind.

Naslund, Bertuzzi and the Sedins are a must keep for Vancouver.

I'd say Theodore outplays Bertuzzi. I have yet to see all-star play out of the big guy. He hasn't played well at all over the last two years.

Osgood? Unfortunately, he is a poor choice for goaltender. Try Buffalo goaltenders. Three strong players. However, I wouldn't bet that any of them would take Vancouver to a Cup (although the Canucks have to improve their skaters as well before that happens), but they would do well in the regular season.

Pierre Lacroix of the Avs is heavily after Biron or Theodore. My guess is Lacroix gets one of the two. Now rumors are surfacing here on the radio that Theodore + Zednik + draft pick for Tanguay and Aebischer (which is a bad trade for us IMO) I'd much rather trade Theo for Tangay or Hejduk straight up. Either way, i think if Lacroix can't land Biron, Vancouver will.

It will be interesting to see if colorado lands one of those netminders, especially as Aebischer has just started to put in some decent games. I think theo for tanguay would be a good trade for us but we'll have to see what actually happens there. If colorado does land one of those guys who is going to take the no.1 slot? Abby won't want to give it up any time soon.

Theodore for Tanguay straight up would be a terrible trade from a Habs fan point of view, and it would be a no-brainer who would take the #1 job if it were between Theodore and "Candy" Abby.

Guess who's going to the Rangers' game tomorrow night where they will be retiring Mark (the Captain) Messier's #11? :D :D :D

I went to the arena box office at 4 in the morning the day they put individual game tickets on sale to get these tickets. I know I'm pathetic lol.

It's good to see colorado winning some games again(8 in a row now :D ) , it's also good to see abby playing some solid games. I would love to see them lead the northwest division, maybee they can in the second half of the season.

Phaneuf is playing great, but Ovechkin is stealing the show. I know you Flames fans hate to admit it but Ovechkin is going to be the next best thing since Mario Lemieux and the glowing Fox puck

I'm not a Flames fan, I just have a bias to defencemen. I know that Ovechkin is a great player, likely a future Hall-of-Famer, but I hate how little attention Phaneuf has received while he has done so well. I do agree that Ovechkin deserves the Norris, however. But I don't want to concentrate on one player; Ovechkin, Crosby, Phaneuf, Svatos, Lundqvist, Meszaros and more will help shape the league. Very exciting.

Flames take on Canadiens in about half an hour. Should be an interesting game. Too bad I won't be able to see it.

Edit: Did anyone see Ovechkin's goal the other night? What a beauty.

Wow what a goal... that was impressive.

Bah my Dallas Stars are playing like crap lately. Turco, can't stop a thing wtf is up with him all of a sudden. And Niinimaa has only added some extra penalty mins to the club, thx for nothing, and i thought the islanders fans we exaggerating about him lol :pinch:

    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
    • The biggest issue in this version of Win 11 context menu, from usability standpoint, is the movable row with basic commands. Think of a car analogy...if You turn the week left the infotainment screen will move right and vice versa. With how it works now Microsoft made something forbidden in designing in any UI, software or hardware. I can't grasp who were the morons within Microsoft suggesting it was a good idea and gave it a green light.

Support and documentation is free from our large, dedicated community of users, contributors and developers. You, too, can also get involved! It's suitable for businesses and organizations where reliability and compatibility are crucial. LibreOffice Fresh is ideal if you're an enthusiast or an early adopter who wants to stay on the cutting edge of LibreOffice development and is willing to accept more frequent updates and occasional minor issues. Features: Writer is the word processor inside LibreOffice. Use it for everything, from dashing off a quick letter to producing an entire book with tables of contents, embedded illustrations, bibliographies and diagrams. The while-you-type auto-completion, auto-formatting and automatic spelling checking make difficult tasks easy (but are easy to disable if you prefer). Writer is powerful enough to tackle desktop publishing tasks such as creating multi-column newsletters and brochures. The only limit is your imagination. Calc tames your numbers and helps with difficult decisions when you're weighing the alternatives. Analyze your data with Calc and then use it to present your final output. Charts and analysis tools help bring transparency to your conclusions. A fully-integrated help system makes easier work of entering complex formulas. Add data from external databases such as SQL or Oracle, then sort and filter them to produce statistical analyses. Use the graphing functions to display large number of 2D and 3D graphics from 13 categories, including line, area, bar, pie, X-Y, and net - with the dozens of variations available, you're sure to find one that suits your project. Impress is the fastest and easiest way to create effective multimedia presentations. Stunning animation and sensational special effects help you convince your audience. Create presentations that look even more professional than the standard presentations you commonly see at work. Get your collegues' and bosses' attention by creating something a little bit different. Draw lets you build diagrams and sketches from scratch. A picture is worth a thousand words, so why not try something simple with box and line diagrams? Or else go further and easily build dynamic 3D illustrations and special effects. It's as simple or as powerful as you want it to be. Base is the database front-end of the LibreOffice suite. With Base, you can seamlessly integrate into your existing database structures. Based on imported and linked tables and queries from MySQL, PostgreSQL or Microsoft Access and many other data sources, you can build powerful databases containing forms, reports, views and queries. Full integration is possible with the in-built HSQL database. Math is a simple equation editor that lets you lay-out and display your mathematical, chemical, electrical or scientific equations quickly in standard written notation. Even the most-complex calculations can be understandable when displayed correctly. E=mc2. That's 27% off and $90 saved for a solid Wi-Fi solution that covers your entire home (purchase link down below). The 2-pack covers up to 4,000 square feet (372 square meters) and supports 100+ connected devices, which handles the vast majority of home setups without breaking a sweat. Wi-Fi 6E brings access to the 6 GHz band for lower latency across the network, and the 2.5 Gb Ethernet port supports gigabit+ internet plans if your ISP offers them. eero's TrueMesh technology handles traffic routing automatically, so you're not manually managing which devices connect to which node. You set up the entire thing through the eero app, and the entire process takes a few minutes. The system also receives automatic security updates in the background, so once you set it up, you don't have to worry about compatibility issues. If you're covering a larger home or want more nodes, the 3-pack is $329.99 and the 4-pack is $479.98, both at similar discount levels.
