shockz
To all changing their display names... do not include special characters such as ?'s, ?'s , other characters not found on a standard keyboard, etc... Changing your name to ones with special characters cause problems with some browsers when PMing or quoting somebody. If it is found that you have changed your name to one with a special character in it, then the name change will be reversed. This also goes for new registrations too... don't include special characters in your name. AlWarned members who changed their names will have their names reverted back to their original/b>. We do not allow members who have had warns to change their name. If you continue to change the names after being told not to or have had one reversed, then you will be warned or restrcited. Thats all. shockz
Fred Derf Veteran Posted December 4, 2005 Veteran Share Posted December 4, 2005 Also, I once warned a member with special characters in his name and he ended up in limbo (and thus effectively banned).
Rob Veteran Posted December 4, 2005 Veteran Share Posted December 4, 2005 Can I also request that names with "[" and "]" be at least not recommend simply because they screw up the quotation system on the boards?
j.nudd
Can I also request that names with "[" and "]" be at least not recommend simply because they screw up the quotation system on the boards? Yeah, I second this; it can be somewhat annoying.
b mitchell
Wait. If you have any warn what-so-ever you cant change your name? I think that is a bit excessive and unncessary. What is the reasoning behind this? If there is any at all.

It also serves as an example to others to not break any rules.
Elliot B.
Can't you place some code on the page that disables these characters?
shockz
Can't you place some code on the page that disables these characters? We've suggested that to the coders. :)

shockz
What if you've been warned and your warning has gone to 0 since the warning level reduction system? If you were warned previously but now have a zero warn level then you can change your name. The warn rules applies to members who have active warns on their accounts (can see visible red squares on their warn level) Wait. If you have any warn what-so-ever you cant change your name? I think that is a bit excessive and unncessary. What is the reasoning behind this? If there is any at all. Also this policy has been in place for over a year... nothing has really changed except that IPB lets users change their names now. We will eventually mod the system with our rules. shockz
Right right. So there is a difference between warned members afterall. I see. Regarding name changes? Yes. Other then that no. You have all the same permissions as any unwarned member.
GoogleNinja
"Registered users may change their name 2x in a 90 day period. This is to allow for mistakes! Martyn
Is a "display name", that line of text below each persons avatar? Eg: Shockz is "You barnacle head!"
Andr
No, that it the Member Title. The display name replaces your username.

Tomi
In order to prevent people with warnings from changing their names, I'm pretty sure HTML Logic will come into play here. ;)
pimpshiznid
So what happens to Radish?? Radish? is grandfathered, as his nick was Radish? since before the rule was instated. I believe there are other members with ?'s in their name since before the rule was added also.
ninjakarl
So what happens to Radish? He had his nick before the change so I don't think it really counts does it? This is only for members who changed their name after the switch to the new IPB. But I could be wrong. edit: Damn you Pimp, you beat me to it. I believe there are other members with ?'s in their name since before the rule was added also. While I realise that Radish has had his name for forever and a day I would have thought that since he's a mod and all he would have changed his name to allow anyone to PM him etc.
