Vista Build 5342 Released - Official Topic

Recommended Posts

Anyone who has seen the "Online Spotlight" feature can clearly tell that Media Center is no where near feature complete. In fact, they are still using what looks like the Media Center 2005 GUI!

Feature Complete? Bleh. MCE is really what needs to be rewritten (or in this case, written, as it hasn't even changed yet!) :pinch:

PLEASE respond me: The driver for Audigi (it) is installed normally ('via Setup') or via Update Driver from Device Manager ????

{+main sound card is Audigi 1.}

I've installed the drivers in normal ways i.e. via setup.. so far so good..

but I've not yet test the functionality of the mic feature and voice recognition..

gonna test it later this evening

I also had a lot of probs with anti-virus on Vista. In fact I was having installation problems which noone else had!. Gave up an AVG as it was ruining my Vista installation. I finally fell upon Avast. It instal?ls and works superbly in Vista. Just go through the preferences after install for better satisfaction. I,m so pleased with it I have even taken out AVG from XP and installed Avast. With a firewall in the router and Avast running, I have taken away the Windows Firewall option and disabled Defender. No problems - so far!

its nice, usability and responsiveness have greatly improved. Its good enough to use as your primary os if all you are doing is simple tasks such as web browsing, chatting etc

but other than that, no. I tried running Oblivion on vista and it actually ran great at first (better than xp i think) but ran into many lag spikes. Most likely because of the high page file usage and cpu for debug taks in the background

Is that AOL instant Messenger you got working there? if so which version and how did you get it to work? I see you also have GAIM installed but the chatting window doesn't look like Gaim.

Can someone post a screenshot of Task Manager on Performance tab? It would be best if the screenshot was taken shortly after boot - I'd like to verify if all those The Inquirer rumors about 4GB's for Vista are justed :p

???

Inq said that when running e.g. FEAR on Vista, they believed you may need even more than 2 GB for optimal gaming without RAM bottlenecks, such as a 4 GB system, but not necessarily that, and not necessarily causing you a headache even if you had 2 GB. And more than 1 GB for Far Cry. They never say Vista uses 4 GB directly after startup. They said it used 800 MB. Get your facts right.

Its gaim 2.0 beta 2, they have changed the interface quite a bit from 1.5

soulburner:

Vista doesnt use anywhere near 800MB. On my system it was only using 250-300MB of RAM

page file usage is high though, 600-800MB, most likely for debug tasks. I think thats where the Inquirer got their numbers

Really looking forward to installing this......am a newby to this board so excuse me.

I've downloaded the Iso x86 from a torrent site, do i need to find a key or code to install it?

or do i need an invitation?

Thanks for the help.

You're probly better off asking your mom. Way to get off to a good start on Neowin!

Err, well you shouldn't say where you got it. and you do need an Offical key from Connect. and it be better from getting it from MSDN or Connect (like me) so you know it wont mess up....or wait for the Public Preview.

Cool thanks for the help.....

I'll scrub the torrent ive downloaded dont want any unwanted pests.

Im a memeber of MSDN so i'll have a look around there.

I've install Microsoft Live Messenger 8 beta, Internet Explorer Beta and Live Mail Beta so i'll be done with them for a while then if i cannot get a Vista download.

I have a problem my GFX card driver was installed after I installed Vista and in my Rating are I got a 2 but my RAM is missing from the rating how do I fix this?

P.S. I am an official beta tester for Vista.

Wait....you have more ram than that? If so are you using a Virtual pc? also the low rating might be because of the card....but if you have more ram and its not showing up file a bug report on Connect.

Yes, I have 64 MB of RAM on my GFX card, and I reported a bug about it.

    • Remarkably based article from Garter - apparently there IS someone working there that actually understands mainframe systems.
