Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2

More that there's a dedicated library team that deals with this kind of thing, and I don't track that too closely myself. I believe they're aware of/fixing/have fixed that, but I don't know the exact repro you're using to get where you are, so can't comment too effectively.

It's a big product: I know my area extremely well, but I won't be able to deeply know areas outside of my own until later - right now I'm focused on my areas for Vista and WMP-XP. :)

I'm not sure I understand the question. WMP11 should work fine on current MCE systems. Old MCE systems that the installer says "You're not compatible" for -- yeah, they aren't compatible and would choke and die on the updated Format SDK. The fix for that is to get an updated MCE OS.

I think we've already established that Beta 2 is not working in MCE 05, from the multiple people confirming that the player crashing on their MCE machines.

If you're crashing, post the crash bucket number, what steps you take to get it to crash, and a sample clip that kills the player, if possible. From what I'm aware of, most of the issues right now are in Unicode ID3 handling that appears to have been fixed just post-beta. But without sample clips that crash you and/or the crash bucket number, who can say for sure? =\

Someone asked earlier in this thread about updating multiple songs in the list using "Find Album Info" and I didn't see a reply. Simply Click once on the first song you want to update, then while holding "Shift" click the last one, and all in between will be highlighted. Then right click to choose "Find Album Info". Of if you don't want all the ones, you can selectively choose files holding control down when clicking.

I have two issues with WMP Beta2. One was already mentioned how when you drag songs over to the edit pane, the scrollbar moves and you lose your place. It scrolls all the way down!

The other thing is that WMP is breaking up albums of mine and putting them onto other albums. They were ripped from a greatest hits for example, and for some reason WMP things some of the songs belong back on the original album.

I understand it may be that I have it checked to auto-update files, however it shouldn't change existing ones. Plus album art that was there for Beta 1 (mainly ones I had manually added) are no longer there in Beta 2.

Otherwise Beta 2 works much faster and is better that B1. I like the updated mini player as well.

Ive been using beta2 with my MCE 2005 box and i dont have no problems at all...

the only thing that is bothering me is that the library wont update any other users on my box..just my default user account, and not my MCX# for my xbox 360..WHY????

ALso does anyone know if we can change the default path to where all the library files are stored..i like putting all my "data" on a mapped drived to my server so i cant lose any data

zachdms , i have a question for you. Maybe its a feature but im hoping there is a reg key to disable it.

Whenever i queue videos in the List Pane and view them fullscreen, just before the video ends, WMP comes out of fullscreen mode. That may be fine if there is one item in the list but when you are watching multiple videos in a list, WMP should not exit fullscreen mode. Do you think this can be corrected or remedied in some way? Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem - it is very annoying and significantly limits the concept of Media Center Extenders.

I really hope that is fixed in Vista (or in the final version of WMP11 XP).

saadu: I'm not familiar with that area: I'm deep into my own area and won't have a chance to play around much with other areas until after Vista ships.

haf: The right people are looking intently into WMC migration and that sort of thing. =\

Love the new WMP 11 but have some questions. I am trying to update my library with WMP. I really like how it trys and put all the songs from the same Album together. On the left side of the songs some of the cover art is there and some isnt. I have been right clicking on the song and clicking find album info. It will usually find the song and it has the cover art to go with it when I lick finish it updates the song info along with the album info but does not put the cover art with the album. Now some of my song already have the cover art next to the album. The albums that dont have the cover art with them, where it should go it says paste cover art here. Does anyone know how to get the cover art to display there when it finds the album info from the internet? Id really appreciate it!

Internet URLs aren't 'safe' for WMP to import because they could be booby-trapped (think sites where if you try to direct-link you get "No direct-linking" and such). So for your case, save the file to your hard drive and *then* drag/drop it. :)

Can someone try playing a WMV-HD movie / trailer to see if it stutters? I dont have any stutteruing in WMP10 but as soon as I had WMP11 Beta1 to BETA2 upgraded I got the stutters I may install WMP11 Beta2 fresh though if people get no stuttering!

When the **** are they going to release this? This has angered me like nothing else. PLEASE GIVE ME A DATE OR I WILL GO BACK TO ITUNES.

match.com may help here.... ?

As far as I'm aware, development of WMP is still under non-disclosure agreement (violation of which gets you fired), which means no one can confirm nor deny any future concern at all that everybody doesn't already know. Thus questions about What Will Happen With Regards To will either get no answer or get an answer from someone who likely doesn't actually know the answer. *shrug*

The latest Vista RC1 build (5278) has further updates past WMP11-XP Beta 2 which may be of interest.

Random thing of actual interest:

Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences, create a

DWORD value named DeskbandFlyoutTimeout and set it to 0 to turn off the deskband player's popup menu. The value is in milliseconds - 0 disables it, 0xffffffff puts it up always.

When is Windows Media Player 11 RTM being released? :)

Currently, the player is an open, public beta; the final version is expected to be released in Fall 2006.

    • From all that I've read on the subject--not that much, really--it looks to me like companies and parents are trying to protect themselves from children using their parents accounts to run up giant bills, sometimes in the thousands of dollars, and the first the parents know about it is when they get sued... Internet companies have been sued for tailoring their ads to children, which is kind of old news. My belief is that policing starts at home with the parents, and the reason that so many laws that can't be enforced are being passed is because parents are eschewing their responsibilities, claiming not enough time, not enough knowledge, etc. Giving kids cell phones sans Internet connectivity is a good place to start--confine Internet activity to PCs in the home that the parents regulate. My kids are all grown and gone, I'm happy to say... They have their own kids to worry about.

    • BTW DXVK is also available on Windows and offers similar benefits like on Linux when it comes to performance, at least in some titles. The Raceroom racing sim for example even offers DXVK as one of its officially supported options and it can achieve ridiculous improvements in certain situations, like quite literally doubling (or more) the framerates
    • Nvidia GeForce NOW to support 18 more games in June, including Gothic 1 Remake by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The start of a new month means Nvidia is also preparing a whole month of additions to its GeForce NOW supported games list. The cloud gaming platform received its first update of June today, revealing games like Jurassic World Evolution 3 and Gothic 1 Remake for the service, while at the same time revealing what's incoming in the next few weeks too. Here are the games joining GeForce NOW's supported list this week: Jurassic World Evolution 3 (New release on Xbox, available on Game Pass) Fatekeeper (New release on Steam, available June 2) House Flipper Remastered Collection (New release on Steam, available June 4) Pro Cycling Manager 26 (New release on Steam, available June 4) GOALS (New release on Steam, available June 4) Gothic 1 Remake (New release on Steam, available June 5) NTE: Neverness to Everness (Launcher) The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition (Steam and Xbox, available on Game Pass) Tomb Raider I-III Remastered (Epic Games Store) XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Steam) Nvidia also plans to add support for these games during the rest of June, though more titles will probably land as weeks go by too: STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions (New release on Steam, June 11) SpaceCraft (New release on Steam, June 11) Denshattack! (New release on Steam and Xbox, available on Game Pass, June 17) The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (New release on Steam, June 18) Dark Scrolls (New release on Steam, June 22) Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains (New release on Steam and Ubisoft, June 30) Farever (Steam) FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves (Steam) Keep in mind that, unlike subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play, a copy of a game must be owned by the GeForce NOW member (or at least have a license via PC Game Pass) to start playing via Nvidia's cloud servers. There is also a limit to how many hours subscribers can use the service per month.
