[OFFICIAL] Xbox Live Arcade Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey guys since my DVD-ROM is broken on my 360, been forced to rely on Xbox Live Arcade/demos lol.

But anyway, I recommend that all of you at least download/play the demo of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Why? It's one of the greatest video games ever. They do the game great justice with this port, and everything you would find in the PSX version is included, as well as filters to make the game more visually impressive.

What is your gtag?

hey madferit good luck with that drive, get her fixed pronto.

Thanks man :D.

What is your gtag?

Same as my Neowin nickname. MadFerIt2006. I still haven't replaced my old gamertag signature after it was removed (had another image in my signature that was too large).

I've been playing it and it is a lot of fun. The gameplay has really improved from Castlevania 1, 2, and 3. Plus it features my favorite character from Castlevania 3, Alucard. It also bares a striking resemblance with the Metroid series (the 2d ones) in both level layout and item collecting.

Cool game!

I wish there was a widescreen mode though :(. You can stretch the image, so at least they give you some options, but I sure would like to see a little more to the left and right while utilizing my full screen ;). Somehow I doubt there will be any update to add full widescreen support.

Honestly I never played the original games, although I've been trying out IV for the SNES (which is a remake of the original I think). I also downloaded this program which is a port of Rondo for Blood, which is the actual prequel to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (in fact, the beginning of symphony is the last level from Rondo of Blood). I definitely see the inspiration the game took from Metroid after Rondo.

I also recently purchased a DS, so I've been trying out it's DS titles. They are pretty good, but I can definitely see why Symphony of the Night is the peak of the series.

Lol I also wish there was a widescreen mode. There's a 3d remake of Rondo of Blood coming to the PSP and it's supposed to include the original Symphony of the Night with a true widescreen presentation and new dubbing. I think it also includes the original Rondo (which was never released in North America). I wish they could have put the same effort into the Xbox Live Arcade version, but oh well.

Personally I don't stretch the image to the full 16:9, but I do stretch it a bit. It seems to work well, and you don't notice the stretching as you would if it was taking over the whole screen.

Thanks man :D.

If that's happening you and you're still under warranty get it fixed/replaced. Don't want it to get worse when you may not be covered under warranty.

I didn't really care for "Super Castlevania" for the SNES.

The original Castlevanias were all good for their time, but now a-days the graphics, sound, and gameplay is just way outdated. The gameplay was so poor in the first 3. I would call it brute memorization of sequences of events and appropriate button mashing. They were all very difficult as well. The 2nd one I actually beat w/o any help from game guides or what have you. I waisted a big chunk of my childhood playing castlevania 2. I'm not sure why... it had to be one of the worse games I've ever played. In fact, the angry nintendo nerd on YouTube does a review of Castlevania 2 that is worth checking out. I'd have to say that I agree with that guy 100% on most of those old nintendo games.

The first and third castlevanias were a lot better. They were both very challenging. I can't remember if I ever beat the first one, but I know I beat the 3rd one several times and through every possible path I could.

Anyway, if you've never played them I'd say: don't bother. There are funner things to play these days. Thankfully the new Castlevania platformers have a much improved style of gameplay that is much more enjoyable.

  • 2 weeks later...

just got Gyruss and PinballFX...the latter is pretty nice and forgiving, i kinda like it. Gyruss....well it wasn't much back in the 80's, i'm just committed to supporting Coin Op Classic releases. still, not a bad one.

ooh, echo, you're skirting the edge with that one!

honestly, is boom boom rocket that good? i found geometry wars to be one of the most frustrating games ever...no matter how good you are it's like blink and die!

neotrunks my friend, get you mitts on Pinball FX ASAP, it's a cool game. the Agents table is so addictive!

I am now torn. I've got 1700 points. I can get Pinball FX, but I also want Catan and Centipede/Milipede. Decisions, decisions. I may just get Catan and PinallFX for now.

^^ As for Geometry Wars, you get better with practice. There will come a point where you will not think at all when playing the game, and you will just operate. Your excitement only comes when you finally die, after coming along so far. I haven't played the game in a LONG time, but I'd still like to reach 1,000,000 points some day. I am currently around 700K.

700k...that's a pipe dream! only 150k or so here.

yes, pinball fx and catan would be good, altho not a fan of the latter's genre at all myself. the reviews haven't been very kind on centi-mili, but then those weren't too great in their original incarnation, either.

my advice is just get pinball fx for now and use the other points either for movies or upcoming arcade titles.

This week in Arcade: Double Dragon

400 points will get you ?€˜Double Dragon?€™ which will be available this Wednesday on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Some of the the features include:

* Two-player co-op multiplayer locally or over Xbox LIVE

* Special extras such as a look at the original Japanese and U.S. "Double Dragon" sales fliers

* Gameplay with either the original graphics or with new high-definition graphics

* All new music

* Hints and tips for newcomers

* Three leaderboards

...and more

    • Here is how I fixed Windows 11 not booting after clean installation by Taras Buria Story time. A couple of weeks ago, I experienced a very odd thing with my computers. I was trying to reinstall Windows 11 on my primary device, and everything was going smoothly until the installer performed the first restart. After that, my computer entered the boot disk selection screen instead of continuing the setup process. Huh, that's odd, said I, and selected Windows Boot Manager only to see it fall back into the same screen right away. Then I tried booting from the USB drive with the same result—the PC kept returning to the boot device selection screen, and removing the drive would send my PC to UEFI, again, with no way to launch Windows 11. I fired up my spare laptop, which has been sitting unused for quite a while, to see if I am dealing with a defective USB drive. Nope, Windows 11 installed and started without issues. After trying another drive and checking all the possible settings in UEFI, I decided to try disabling Secure Boot. Lo and behold, Windows 11 started as it should have been in the first place, continued the setup process, and reached the initial setup screen. Victory! After I finished the setup and applied all updates, I re-enabled Secure Boot, and Windows 11 started without issues. Some time later, I tried reinstalling Windows 11 on my laptop only to experience similar issues, with UEFI claiming a Secure Boot violation. I checked whether the drive works on my main PC, and yes, it installed Windows 11 without errors. I scratched my head, went to UEFI, turned off Secure Boot, and installed Windows 11 without issues. After that, I enabled Secure Boot. Note: I used the official Media Creation Tool app for my USB drive. Also, UEFI was properly configured for Windows 11, including no Legacy Mode, a GPT-partitioned drive, and TPM and Secure Boot enabled. From my experience, if you are dealing with similar symptoms, I recommend two things: If you use old Windows 11 install media, create a new one with the latest Windows 11 release, especially if you know your PC already has the latest Secure Boot certificates. If you cannot create a new one, turn off Secure Boot, complete the installation, download all available updates, and then re-enable Secure Boot in UEFI. Note that you need to turn off Secure Boot after installing Windows 11. Otherwise, the installer won't run, claiming a hardware requirements mismatch. I believe the problem hides in Secure Boot certificates that expire this month. Microsoft is currently rolling out new certificates, and maybe a mismatch was causing these issues for both of my systems. I am out of my depth to make a definitive statement; this article is flagged as "Opinion," as I only share my experience and some tips on how to fix the problem. If some of you possess deeper knowledge and understanding of the situation, please share it in the comments. As for everyone else struggling with computers not booting after a clean install, the two steps above should get you out of the pickle.
    • I gave the tool a chance the other day to make a USB. An hour later it was stuck at 0% downloaded. I downloaded the official ISO, downloaded Rufus, and made the USB myself in 15 min.
    • <Moved to software discussion and support> I've got fond memories of Winamp. Changing the skins, the different visualisations etc. But now I just need a simple music player. MSN messenger would be another one, MSN Messenger Plus (I think?) offered so many different plugins. But again, it probably wouldn't work for me these days. And then there is miRC. i think it's still going these days, but lord i had fun with that back in the day. Now it's mostly stuff like Discord, WhatsApp group chats, Signal, Telegram... /me is showing his age...
    • ive always been fascinated by old software this is an old video player for windows from apple
