Hi, I have a question, if I install this on my laptop then if sometime in the future I want to install it on my desktop, can I? With this version will I just be able to remove/uninstall it from the laptop and install it on my desktop? Or is this like the OEM version where once you install it on a pc, you can't move it some where else later?

Thanks

There still hasn't been an answer from most of those who have gotten Vista as to whether they were doing both the Vista and Office offers. So has anyone gotten it who did both offers?

(Sorry for the nagging. Just anxious to get my Vista and wondering if it's only those who just did the Vista offer who are getting it now.)

you're not nagging. i did both offers, didn't send in my w-9 and i'm in the same boat as you. i'll post if i get anything!

sweet... im in the Washington DC area and i got mine today :) Yay!! Guess i'll be formatting this weekend and installing a fresh and clean and legal Vista :). I already got Office 2007 so i'm cool there :)

What computers will I be able to control with remote desktop? can I do the windows XP computer I have over a wireless internet connection from my laptop. I know you have the option to RD on XP. I remember on my home edition you can allow the viewing but can't control. Will I be able to control an XP computer from Vista?

my debate right now is should i buy the ultimate upgrade or just purchase home premium separate. I really dont need ultimate on my tablet and am planning to build a computer this summer.

I heard once you upgrade to ultimate, your license will be an OEM one, so you're pretty much screwed if you plan to install it elsewhere later on. Not sure if it's true or not.

Any word on when and how we will be getting our copies of Office 2007? The last I heard, we will have to download it and we will be receiving our keys in the mail. Is this correct? I haven't heard anything about this lately.

dude, read about 1 page back and you'll see that Office is a download, Vista is physical media.

Nothing here, but I am getting Office and Vista ...to be honest, I am no rush, it's like like I don't have both already

Well, I got a bit of bad news for those who did both the Vista and Office offers. I e-mailed support today to make sure they got my W-9 and if my order had shipped. Just got a response a few hours ago:

Dear Steve:

Thank you for your email. Let me begin by apologizing for our delay. This campaign has been even more popular than we anticipated.

I checked the system and verified that we have received your W-9. You are slated for the first batch of shipments. The materials are currently being prepared in our warehouse for shipment. We currently estimate that we will begin shipping by the end of next week ? provided there are no delays. Please look for your software within 7 to 14 days.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know. Have a great day.

Sincerely,

Joe

In response, I wrote back and said that others had already begun receiving their copies of Vista. Just got a reply to that e-mail as well:Dear Steve:

Folks who only are receiving one of the items were processed first because they didn?t require a completed W-9. The folks, such as yourself, who are receiving both, had to wait until we received the W-9. The products will be shipped to your together.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Thanks again,

Joe

So, this was my fear. It sounds like it may be a week or two by time we get our copies. And that means no Vista prior to release for us.

Is that really so bad? It cost you nothing monetarily and only your time viewing some presentations.

I understand the anxiousness of receiving the freebies, but who cares if someone walks in to a store and drops a few hundred on the software and you receive it after him for free?

    • Simple answer is yes, you will still get the Windows updates and as long as browser is up to date, you will be good. Only thing secure boot does is protect you against boot level threats and make it harder to install other OS's. I've been looking into this pretty thoroughly lately myself as wifes computer has secure boot disabled plus my other, older computers that run Linux, don't have secure boot enabled. Have seen all kinds of questions about this on the Linux Mint and MX Linux forums. Just don't suddenly enable secure boot now.

    • AltSendme 0.4.1 by Razvan Serea AltSendme is a minimal, cross-platform application designed for fast, secure, and private peer-to-peer file transfers. It allows users to send files or entire directories directly between devices without relying on cloud servers, accounts, or any personal information. Everything is encrypted end-to-end using modern protocols like QUIC and TLS 1.3, ensuring both strong security and low-latency performance. Transfers are verified with BLAKE3 for data integrity, and interrupted downloads automatically resume, making the experience reliable even on unstable connections. You can transfer anything—images, videos, documents, and more. Integrity checks are performed on both ends, so your files are automatically verified for correctness during both sending and receiving. AltSendme works seamlessly across local networks or long-distance links, capable of saturating multi-gigabit connections for extremely fast delivery. With built-in NAT traversal and encrypted relay fallback, it connects devices almost anywhere. The app integrates with the Sendme CLI and will soon support mobile and web platforms. Fully free and open-source, AltSendme offers a lightweight, privacy-first alternative to traditional cloud-based services, removing size limits, upload costs, and unnecessary data exposure. AltSendme 0.4.1 changelog: Release Highlights Self-hosted relays: Run your own iroh relay so transfers don't rely on public infrastructure. Includes a full deployment template in deploy/relay/ with Docker Compose for a VPS and configuration examples for production use. Fly.io support: One-click deploy template for Fly.io, including a quick-start config (fly.dev.toml) for testing without a custom domain, plus production setup with Let's Encrypt and your own hostname. Relay settings UI: New Settings → Network panel to choose how AltSendme connects: automatic public relays, custom self-hosted URLs (with optional auth token), or disabled. Test connections, verify latency, and see live relay status in the footer. Disable relays: Turn off relay servers entirely when you only need same-network transfers (e.g. LAN). Direct connections only. No relay hop required when devices can reach each other. Android graduates from beta: Android is now part of the regular release cycle alongside desktop. APKs ship with each version (universal, arm64, and armv7). • You are mostly right about the ephemeral nature of it. As I mention in the article, if you dont add a second device or take a backup of your account before uninstalling it, then yes you will lose access to your account. That said, in terms of actual user experience when you sync multiple devices your message history carries across and there's also a Saved Messages chat like there is on Telegram to send messages and attachments between your installs. But yh, what you point out are correct and its not trying to emulate Messenger or Telegram.
