I'm in NC and only signed up for Office 2007. So far, nothing yet. Does anyone have an idea of when Office will be shipped to those of us that didn't also order Vista?

(Had I known about the anytime upgrade I would have also ordered Vista, but I figured I didn't want the Business version of the OS. My mistake.)

What computers will I be able to control with remote desktop? can I do the windows XP computer I have over a wireless internet connection from my laptop. I know you have the option to RD on XP. I remember on my home edition you can allow the viewing but can't control. Will I be able to control an XP computer from Vista?

The Remote Desktop referred to in Vista Business and Ultimate is the server, not the viewer. You can use the viewer in pretty much any recent OS. So, yes, you can control your XP machine from Vista, assuming your XP machine is Pro (XP Home does not have the server built in, just as Vista Home does not).

I wish the site was up so I could request the 64-bit media so it would be here when I get my key.

You need the key before you can order the 64-bit media, according to the picture someone posted earlier of the retail package.

Maybe it's not about location, maybe it's about last name or order in which you completed your webcasts or something. Since it seems that some people in a given area have gotten their software and some haven't, perhaps Microsoft is using some other kind of way to determind who gets it first.

Or not....maybe I'm just impatient. But someone posted a little while ago in Los Angeles, CA saying they got theirs so maybe mine isn't too far away if it's done by location, given that I'm in Los Angeles as well...

:iiam:

I got mine yesterday and I live in Rockton, IL about an hour outside of Chicago.

Oh yeah, as it doesn't include the 64 bit media what would happen if I use my key with a downloaded 64 bit final version? Would the license be valid?

I'm going to assume that because the beta version used one key for both 32-bit and x64 that the 32-bit key will work with x64, too, and that when you order the x64 media all you get is a new disc, and not a different key. However, I'm still anxiously waiting for my copy to show up so I can test this theory.

is there anything prohibiting a resale of the Office gift?

i don't have much use for two copies

Technically you can't sell them. The physical media for Vista says "not for resale" and the Office gift is going to be a download anyways.

Yeah, in theory you could download Office, burn it to a CD, and then sell your key with the burnt cd .... but I am almost positive these licenses are technically non-transferable.

Clearly the Vista CD is not resellable since its marked "Not for resale", but Office, I'm not so sure about. I got Office from the launch tour and it didn't say anything about not being transferrable. It's also a download with the just the key given. I also noticed that there are a ton of people selling the launch tour Office Pros on Ebay.

Ebay usually tries to prevent anything illegal so with so many of these auctions up and running, it may be okay to sell the Office key (of course, I'm not sure how Microsoft feels about it).

They key itself is not a license, MS gives retail versions a sticker for your computer or a license sheet that is the true license, the key is just that a key... our licenses for this program are just implied licenses, just like the beta program gifts where implied licenses, we didnt get stickers to affix to our systems to prove its legal... therefor you can not resell it, because ebay / VOLES (who MS uses to monitor ebay) requires that you show the license or sticker or the retail box sealed with its MS sticker on top (the serial number and set number sticker MS puts on boxes) to prove its legit

Does someone see the status change on powertogether site. Saying if its Shipped or not? Do they change the status, in your stuff section of the web site. Mine still says

"

Congratulations! You?ve completed the number of Webcasts required to receive a free, fully-licensed copy of Windows Vista Business. Once we?ve confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements stated in the offer details below we will ship your gift within 6-8 weeks of the release to manufacturing of Windows Vista. While you?re waiting, why not check out additional Webcasts to further your skills?

"

Though I recieved an email from them saying that I qualified for the free vista edition and they will ship it to me in 6-8 weeks. I got this email around 1 week back.

Is this whats happening with the people who have received the vista disk???

I'm not arguing with you, but I was wondering how those that went to the launch events are selling theirs on Ebay.

I went to the launch event and got one (no intentions of selling it as I've already used that key). They also were just key numbers in a folder -- just as I expect that we'll get for this -- with instructions to download the trial and then put in the key numbers. There is no retail box or license (apart from the folder that has the key number on it). Most of the Ebay listings that I've seen are even honest about the fact that they got it for free at a launch event and that it is downloadable with the unregistered key.

Will this be any different?

    • The only reason I want to know where you from is because if you are not from the U.K, then why should you care what we in the U.K do or don't do? Racist I am not, I am fed up with the amount coming over here and feel they can come over here and think we need to support them. Do you know how much it costs this country to support these people coming over here? Even when we give them a place to live it is not good enough. We had a barge that was being used to house immigrants, oh but that was not good enough. A mate said to me at the time, when he was homeless, he would have been happy to live on the barge, instead of ending up sleeping on a bench on the beach. I am not scared to say what my family heritage is, unlike you who is scared to say where they are from or where they live. Father side U.S, mother side Wales, still have family living in the U.S. A mate who sadly died a few years ago, had a load of people from different races recording in his studio, I got on with all of them. Skin colour don't bother me, where they are from don't bother me. Religion don't bother me as long as they don't push it onto me and it is not crazy stuff. I am not religious. But if you are not living in the U.K, then why should you care if we are in the E.U or not? This the problem, too many people poking their noses into where it don't belong. But you believe what you believe, if you think I am racist, then be it, I really do not care. Just grow a pair
    • If he hasn't been able to figure that out, then why is he obsessed with tariffs? Because that's one of the most prominent tools to level the playing field when you have high cost of labor.
    • Microsoft released Windows 11 KB5102558, KB5095615 Setup and Recovery updates by Sayan Sen This past week Microsoft released the newest preview update (C-release) under KB5095093. Alongside those, Microsoft also released new dynamic updates. For those who may not know, dynamic updates bring improvements to the Windows Recovery process in the form of Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates, which are also called Safe OS updates. The dynamic updates also affect the Setup file binaries in the form of Setup updates. These Dynamic Update packages are meant to be applied to existing Windows images prior to their deployment. Dynamic Updates also help preserve Language Pack (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content during the upgrade process. VBScript, for example, is currently an FOD on Windows 11 24H2. This time both recovery and setup updates were released for Windows 11. The company writes: "KB5095186: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 26H1: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.28000.2335. KB5102558: Setup Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to Windows setup binaries or any files that setup uses for feature updates in Windows 11, version 24H2 and Windows 11, version 25H2. KB5095615: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, versions 24H2 and 25H2: June 23, 2026 This update makes improvements to the Windows recovery environment (WinRE). After installing this update, the WinRE version installed on the device should be 10.0.26100.8737." Microsoft notes that both the Recovery and Setup updates will be downloaded and installed automatically via the Windows Update channel.
