hmmm..barneyt mentioned (post # 1317) that he downloaded the 64-bit version, and it worked with the key he got with the 32-bit edition. Wonder what that link is...

Probably a torrent .... honestly, I don't think I'm going 64-bit anyway. After contemplating the move, there just isn't enough driver and software support for it yet.

But yeah, probably a torrent.

No torrent... beta tester. I did not use a torrent to download Vista. Then applied the key for the 32-bit Vista from my PowerTogether copy to the 64-bit Vista I downloaded, and it worked just fine. However, I am not sure that there is a public link to 64-bit editions yet...........

Driver support is really up to how many obscure third party accessories you have, like if you have a cell phone you wanna synch or some non-major mp3 player (eg not an ipod or zune)... and even then. Vista x64 installed everything, including my Canon printer, my Philips mp3 player and HP Photosmart camera, right out of the box, with the exception of my ac97 onboard sound. I had to download sound drivers and update my video card drivers to official ones from nVidia and that was all I had to worry about. The amount of 64-bit drivers that come on the DVD is phenomenal. I laugh every time somebody uses that as an excuse.

Their seems to be some confusion around Channel 9 forums as to the download link given in the mailer vs the trial link given at Office web site. The URL in the mailer gives you the link to a single 388MB download, but if you just went to download the trial, you would be sent to two seperate links. One is the same as the mailer, @ 388MB. And the second is around 345MB. People should also download the second link as well. I believe it adds extra features to Office Pro 2007. Could have been a glitch on Microsoft's part.

Yeah? Well it's nice to know that all your drivers were included on the cd, but as for my hardware, it isn't all supported yet. And I'm sure that is the case for a lot of others. So it isn't an "excuse." It's the reason I didn't install 64-bit Vista. Oh, and the fact that any type of benefit from 64-bit Vista is non-existant at this point. In a few years it will be worthwhile, but it sure isn't now.

From what I can tell, all the drivers that are on the 32-bit version are also on the 64-bit version. I also have seen very, very few companies that are developing Vista drivers not put out a x64 version as well. For the most part they're either supporting Vista, or they're not. The driver system has been changed, so very few XP drivers will work. You may as well use that as an excuse not to install Vista at all, because I doubt whether you're running the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version is terribly relevant.

Just out of curiosity, what hardware can you not get drivers for?

is this promotion over ? i mean can you still recieve a copy of vista or office ? i see the site is still up, but says no more gifts, im not watching videos for free, lol.

it's been over for a while, no more offers, videos are up just to watch now... it was a battle even getting what was there when it was... it was a fight you vs server speed...

    • I like mesh chairs like this, but not being able to lock in the back would make it not work for me. Also, I don't like arm rests at all. Can you not install them and the chair still work? Any recommendations on alternative chairs?
    • As before, my notes are in your quoted section. To be clear, you started posting racist, fascist nonsense. And I always challenge lies and the liars that peddle them. Why? Because the truth matters.
    • Deal for those who want 1900 size electronics in their house? with 2026/7 hardware mhm.. not nice
    • Cheap labour, the same as the U.K. China pays their people pittance.
    • Those people that come over here on boats are already in a safe country, if they want to come over here then do so correctly though the right channels. I was born in the U.K, my family that came over here came so via the proper means. My partner came here via the correct channels, she also became a British citizen, she knows more about this country than most of them that was born here, including myself, she worked hard to do what she does. She will stick up for this country and have done a few times, when people from her own part of world have put the U.K down. We are not going to agree, all I said to start with is that maybe Trump has the right idea with this America first thing and maybe we should start doing the same. Maybe not as drastic as what he is doing, but we do need to sort this country out, we need to sort out tech instead of relying on the U.S and others. Again you have not shown why you are so annoyed that we have left the E.U and this is what it is all about? If you don't live in the U.K and live in the E.U are you annoyed that we left your little club? If you live in the U.K and is pro-E.U, then fair enough then I can see how it annoys you. Are you one of these people who lives in the U.K and have a holiday chalet in the E.U and can now only stay there for so long? If so, then that is bad luck. As I have posted before, I have no problem with people coming here to work, as long as they do if via the proper channels. We are out of the E.U, people voted out, and maybe if more people had voted instead of sitting on their backsides the results would have been different. But they like the E.U and our government thought no we would not vote to leave. How wrong they were, surprised me. I expected to wake up in the morning and hear on the radio that we voted to stay. As I said, we are out and have been for 10 years, we are not going to go back in anytime soon if we ever do, so we all need to make the best of how things are. Anyway, this is supposed to be a tech site.
