Mac OS X 'Leopard'-related Discussion

i cant see that being the new interface... we are talking about apple... that wont happen.

You know, about everyone around here said the exact same thing during the Mac OS X Tiger betas.

Nobody believed that System Preferences would actually stay like this:

Nor did people think that the bright blue plastic Apple and Spotlight icons on the menubar would make it to the final build, or that the Finder would keep it's Mac OS X Panther appearance.

But we all know how it turned out in the end. ;)

What I meant is, they delay Leopard because of the iPhone. If they hadn't talked about the iPhone, they could develop it the pace they want and put more efforts into Leopard.

I thought the interface of Mac OS X for iPhone looked pretty polished and complete though, there must be something else behind that move.

Safari should have colored buttons IMO, it'd make the interface more joyous...

That's definitely not even near final.

Yep. It's quite a ways off, you can notice a lot of UI elements that just don't belong.

Anyway, the eye button in finder brings up QuickLook which has been expanded to support more filetypes.

Also, in the utilities folder there are 2 new apps. "Podcast Capture" and "Directory"

Podcast capture's titlebar calls it Podcast Producer, and it asks for a login to a server. I guess that OSX Server will be needed for that. and Directory does nothing. Maybe a replacement for Directory Utility??

User backdrops work in Photobooth. I couldn't make them work in iChat in a 1 way video chat. I'll try it some more later on. iChat Theater seems to be functional too (I only played a movie through it)

Trying A2DP as we speak, it was quite broken in the last build... Bluetooth might be broken. Not sure yet.

Anyone else notice these in Safari?

I actually like the smaller ones. Nice to see that the webclip button now fits in. I would like to see the backward/forward buttons match the new ones though.

Those buttons are artifacts from the resolution independent UI. It's a bug.

Nah, Safari in Tiger has the Webclip button in its' resources. Makes me think they wanted Webclip for Tiger but something stopped them from finishing it. It was probably originally black because the icon for widgets are black and Dashboards' icon is black.

Think Secret has a bunch of screenshots for the new build: http://www.thinksecret.com/archives/leopard9a410/index.html

Title bars for Aqua windows are darker too. iCal is looking very nice. Automator has that same template sheet found in Dashcode. Seems they will become a standard for project based apps. The plastic mail buttons look awful on the dark toolbar. All pinstripes seem to have disappeared, which I like.

Why do all Leopard screenshots have that funny texture to them?

So a few more thoughts since I've had more time to play with it.

"Sharing" finder option Connect to Desktop (ARD Lite as I called it) is no longer present in the Finder (going to see if the .app still exists). Edit: Still exists in /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement I wouldn't be surprised if this makes it's way into /Applications before final.

The alternative PieChart progress bar for Safari is gone.

Server Monitor Widget for 10.5 Server is gone (I assume that was bound to happen and it'll be on the 10.5 Server DVD)

...I am really happy about all the security enhancements. Such as, iChat defaults to using SSL now, and Mail.app defaults to using SSL.

Just installed Developer Tools, so off to see what goodies exist there :)

And um. That's all for now, more later ;)
